So during the treehouse there was a small tidbit/show off about their new online systems. When in the Wild Lands, local and online players can roam with you, but they can also challenge you to battle, to trade and get items. This is nice for two big reasons for me, first one being Co-Op is FINALLY in Pokemon to some extent, sure it might be superficial, but having a friend to hunt with will be fun. The 2nd biggest thing is if you can do this with randoms, it will make the place feel way more alive, basically random encounters and trades with real people, the over world is essentially a big hub at that point for hunting pokemon and battles/trades with other trainers.

The footage for the treehouse Time Stamped:

This is like the PSS on steroids. Coupled with the Wild Area this game will feel like an MMO-lite, which is gonna be amazing.

Its such a beautiful thing to see Pokemon finally having a controllable camera. Is it like this all the time or only in the wild lands(talking about the camera)

It's great that you can see other players in the Wild Area and directly interact with them. The notice board is also a great tool to seek matches, especially because it tells where each player is, so it's easy to find them.
This is, like, a world apart from fucking Festival Plaza. Those were dark days.

I do think the weather changes + having to go between the wild lands will help make the area feel bigger too

The video should start at 13:08, does for me. But yeah they show another playing walking around with you.

It looked like the character was summoned in, like they walk in a straight line then do an instant perfect 180 turn.
Im guessing they're not actually controlled by a person and more like a representation that theyre available since all the pokemon spawning in and out would be hard to sync.

Masuda was controlling them, he was paused in the grass because he was fighting a pokemon before hand.

That Steelix raid boss was fun to watch. Looks like a great endgame mode.

I got sidetrack with the Masuda bombshell that I forgot about Sword and Shield.

From the Treehouse and the new gymleader the game is looking good and for a brief moment in time it felt like that the series was a return to form.

I remember when I naively thought Pokemon would be one of the few exceptions lol

Same, which means I won't be using the on-line feature as I rarely go on-line so I just don't see the value in paying for it. Especially when Nintendo is offering leaves a lot to be desired.

Besides the missing Pokemon, I think this is going to be a great gen.

Yeah it's going to be interesting how they handle levels here since you will be entering this place a lot
in the demo, they actually ran into a level 26 Machoke when their team was in the 10's, so it's possible the game doesn't quite scale to your level. It could make for a really good grinding area if done right.

The official site shows some strong Pokemon won't let you catch them until later... presumably Badge based?

They have unique encounter text which Machoke didn't have iirc.

Wait is the other player that is in your Wild Land, really that player playing and moving around, or just the avatar appearing on screen? Because in the video it did look like it, especially how the girl player immediately clipped into place.

This game is really looking amazing. The Wild Area is everything I wanted in a Pokemon game. The online features are icing on the cake.

And sorry but I personally don't care about bringing my old Pokemon over into a new game. I look at it as, a new region and a new trainer. My Pokemon would never leave their trainer for some new guy, is my head canon.

Personally that's usually how I look at it to, but I do get why others are upset. Maybe we will get our first Pokemon DLC that adds in other Pokemon?

Since this is the first real Pokemon on a console, I expect them to be a little more ambitious with DLC. We'll see. Hopefully if they do Pokemon Helmet(get it?) in 2020 it's just a DLC expansion and not some whole full priced thing we gotta buy.
