Getting My Quadcopter "Drone" Out of a Tree (shot myself in the hand) - Jody Bruchon Entertainment

In which we go "drone fishing" and I get shot in the hand. The newly tree-dwelling quadcopter in question is a Hubsan X4 H107C. You can see it fall out of the tree at 10:28, but I didn't notice at first.

I made the unfortunate mistake of flying a tiny quadcopter on a fairly windy day, and through a combination of the wind being too strong and me getting confused about the quad's orientation in the air, it ended up living in a tree for a while. I did some research on methods to get a stuck drone out of a tree and some of them were pretty obnoxious, such as asking for a favor from the fire department. I'm not doing that over a $30 drone.

Fortunately, I soon found an excellent tactic for drone retrieval that could be done cheaply from the ground! Buy a slingshot, a large fishing sinker, and some really strong (50lb test in my case) fishing line, tie the sinker to the line, and slingshot that sinker onto the tree branch that's holding the drone hostage. From there, it's a matter of using the line to shake the tree branch until the drone falls out of the tree or you give up.

One more thing: in retrospect, I could possibly have saved my sinker since it wasn't wrapped around anything but it wouldn't come through the branch when I pulled. Simply spool out more fishing line until the sinker is within reach and cut the sinker off the end! Ah well, it's just a cheap sinker, so I didn't care too much.

While shooting footage for Jackie Adams's mayoral campaign website video, this obnoxiously loud truck went by that couldn't be ignored, even in the Gazing Cat Productions studio. My ulterior motive is subsequently revealed. ;-)

It's just a funny moment! I'm not trying to get a muffler ordinance passed, you guys! She had a good sense of humor during the shoot until the heat from the lights started to get to her. Can't say I blame her!

I shot some footage in April 2017 when I was cleaning out my business to move into a much smaller and cheaper place. The two years I spent working out of that old bank built in the 1950s were when some of the greatest events and changes in my life happened. This short film is a tribute to that old bank and all the good times that we shared. It will be missed.

The main song is "Brothers Unite" by Alexander Nakarada; the afterword song is "Advertime" by Rafael Krux. Both are available at FreePD.com and are in the public domain.

Trippy Psychedelic Apple Mac iBook G3 Screen - a broken LCD that's on LSD - Jody Bruchon Tech

I had an old iBook G3 come in the office that looked like it had been dragged through hell and back. The screen didn't work and was dirty and obviously water damaged when it came in.. Suddenly while poking at it, it started working! A few minutes later, the LCD colors blew out into these trippy crazy psychedelic colors that you'd expect to find in some 1970s rock videos, so I just had to point a camera at it. The screen savers and transitions became a thousand times more interesting with this display defect. I absolutely love the crazy warped coloring, and I hope you enjoy it too.

Technical Difficulties - Please Stand By (Jolly Old Snappers delayed) - Jody Bruchon Photo/Video

I was supposed to post the debut episode of Jolly Old Snappers. Unfortunately, my main video editing machine started hard freezing the day before it was supposed to go up and I couldn't get it fixed in time. I still don't know if I have fixed it completely but I did discover that the heatsink thermal compound had baked hard and could use replacement. This thing has an extremely hot processor that requires water cooling to work without crashing so anything that causes heat to sink off too slowly means big trouble. I've had it for several years so I suppose it was time for a big hiccup.

Anyway, I'm editing on my backup computer which is obviously nowhere near as quick, so I'll need more time. Shooting for Friday or Saturday at the latest. Sorry about the delay.

Short Film: Jody Versus The Highway (documentary, comedy, anthology) - Jody Bruchon Entertainment

I drove way up the eastern seaboard and shot a lot of video along the way, picking up little slices of life on the road and talking to my camera. I found the inspiration to compile all of my driving clips into this cute little documentary.

Yes, I really, REALLY hate toll booths. Yes, I drove several hours out of the way to avoid all tolls on the way back down, and I have no regrets since I got to see a lot of places like upstate New York and Scranton, PA that I'll probably never get to see again in my life. Plus...that view on that scenic overlook by a Blue Ridge Parkway entrance in Virginia made everything worth it. No camera does it justice! It was hard to put so much unrelated footage together, so I divided them up into funny categories!

Cowbell Mafia - 2017 short film (comedy, drama, weird) - Jody Bruchon Entertainment

They take REAL good care of Mickey.

Filmed in under an hour for the fun of it, this turned out better than it should have. I wanted to use the bank vault in my old business location in a film before the last month's rent ran out. The cowbell cult thing was added on a whim to make things super weird.

The best part of filming was when I told Ydion to beat and scream on the vault door like he meant it. There was something awesome about how well that part worked and you had to be there to fully appreciate it. Thanks to Will and Ydion for visiting and helping out!

Coffee is Happiness (2016 short psychological horror-comedy film) - Jody Bruchon Entertainment

This is the second short film I made and "rushed" is an understatement. I challenged myself to film and cut together a short in four hours or less. This is the result. This is the most polarizing thing I think I've ever made. Some people think it's really horribly dark and seem put off by it while others think it's pretty great. Let me know how you feel about it.

There are obvious problems like screen splits that weren't done very well; at this point tools such as After Effects weren't in my arsenal and I didn't have much editing experience either. The lighting is garbage because there wasn't any. This is a true "no-budget" film because the only thing I can even think of that cost me any money at all was the bag of coffee!

A professor with a deep interest in the occult is drawn to an irresistible meeting with a mysterious wizard.

This is the first short film I ever made. I thought it'd be so easy to make a silent film. One month later, I realized how wrong I was. It took so long because I was still learning to edit and how to compose music so I could create the movie's score myself. Filming took place entirely in my house and the front and back yards while snowed in one day.

I, a person who is NOT lockpickinglawyer, show you how to "pick" an electronic security gate lock that prevents access to a pool. The process can be tedious for the first minute, but the end result speaks for itself.

Yes, this is comedy, but it's also serious. Why is there a lock on the gate in the first place? The simple answer: INSURANCE. Pools are dangerous. Make the primary gate unable to be opened by random people or children so insurance covers accidents. It makes sense...in an insurance company way.

2022 Midterm Election Analysis - Democrat Voters Are Stupid - Jody Bruchon Politics

Imagine actively voting against all bodily autonomy outside of abortion and then standing on your victory hill proclaiming "I've fought the fight to protect bodily autonomy!" Imagine being so stupid that you forgot 2020 through 2022. Imagine being so brain-dead and inept that you forgot seeing that you paid double for gas and groceries and voted for more of the same. Democrat voters have made it loud and clear: they are peak stupid adult children that would gladly destroy the economy if it means a tiny minority of women can have abortions more easily.

Shucking WD Easystore Drives (a DataHoarder favorite) - 1000 Sub Special #1 - Jody Bruchon Tech

The WD Easystore at Best Buy is notorious among the DataHoarder subreddit for being the best way to get high-capacity desktop hard drives that cost the lowest price per TB of storage. Unfortunately, while they'll often post about sales on the drives and advise you to shuck them (remove the enclosure to use the drive inside as an internal drive instead), tutorials on how to actually get these plastic monsters apart are not always so easy to come by...and since I needed to do some server shuffling, I decided to shuck all three of them on camera to help you out.

10-year-old netbook still holds up today - Acer Aspire One AO532h (NAV50) - Jody Bruchon Tech

By modern standards, the Acer Aspire One series of netbooks from the late 2000s/early 2010s is depressingly weak and incapable. I have yet to see a single one of these netbooks run Windows 10 at a speed faster than "unusable." However, with a solid-state drive (SSD) upgrade and Windows 7 32-bit (instead of 64-bit due to the tiny cache sizes of Intel Atom N-series chips), this little underdog of a netbook works okay for basic tasks. I was able to handle a single browser tab and a one-on-one Zoom meeting on it, though the poor little Intel Atom N450 was pegging 99% usage almost the entire time and the audio occasionally broke up. Still, I got through it with minimal nuisance, and I'd call that a success!

I set a release date for my first episode of my web series "Jolly Old Snappers" which came and went with no episode posting. What happened?

My big editing computer messed up. A large amount of computer repair work appeared. A surprise plumbing problem at home wrecked most of a weekend. The overriding reason, though, is that about 70% through editing the first episode, I was very unhappy with it. It's not entertaining and pretty boring and I think you deserve something better, so I'm starting the process over.

InfraRed Wine - A drunk observation about beverages and invisible light - Jody Bruchon Entertainment

This video is weird. I had posted it to YouTube right after I made it, when my sub count was closer to 30 (that LG G Stylo was pretty new). I was amused at the time, but the more I watched it, the more I felt embarrassed by it. I deleted it. It was still amusing on some level, and in 2018, this re-upload was made, but kept set to private. Every once in a while, I'd re-watch it when going through my video list. Today is June 2, 2020, and I no longer feel embarrassed by it. I made an interesting observation and I made the best of what was otherwise a waste of time and energy.

It also gave me the opportunity to show two other pieces of work I had done that don't warrant their own video: a time lapse of storm clouds in a grocery store parking lot, and the raw footage of my first experiment with chroma keying (and a very early learning experience in video editing) that I titled "Ghost Chomp."

I'm making it public today so that I can share the story with everyone, and perhaps inspire new filmmakers to experiment with the craft in ways they hadn't thought about before. And if you're gonna waste your time getting drunk, try to exploit the lowered inhibitions to be creative. How cool is it that red wine looks like water under infrared?!

2013 iMac SSD Upgrade and Chill (Live Stream Edit) (2022-09-21 @ 0000 EDT) - Jody Bruchon Tech

This is a lightly edited remaster of a live stream from September 21, 2022 at midnight. I replaced the stream video with the camera's 4K recorded footage and used a barrel distortion effect to remove some of the warping from the fisheye lens. If you saw me post about that Panasonic 9mm f/1.7 lens I really want to buy...well, this is why I want it. That lens would produce this same angle of view but in far better quality and with no need for such extreme correction to make things not look so extremely warped.

2008 Apple iMac SSD Upgrade - This is the Easiest iMac to Disassemble BY FAR - Jody Bruchon

I like this iMac. It's easy to get into, at least when compared against every other Intel iMac that exists. The old white ones required melting a credit card into an "S" shape to release latches while the all-silver ones (2010 etc.) have giant magnets right beside slots you have to put screws through, and then they eventually just went the "glue everything together" route. The hardest thing to figure out on this one is that you need to use suction cups on the front glass and remove the single screw holding in the bottom memory door.

The Black Little Mermaid is PEAK DISRESPECT Towards Black People - Jody Bruchon Politics

Surely I'm not the only person that thinks that black people deserve their own original stories instead of an existing "white" story with a black coat of paint slapped on top of it. The people who think this is great because of "representation" should be deeply offended because it's not representation at all; it's exploitation of black skin to virtue signal and to stir controversy for marketing purposes.

Besides, even ignoring the whole lazy race-swapping thing...the movie looks awful. Is "she looks like she's in a dark, dirty place with amateur-level lighting" how black people really want to see themselves "represented?" How is it that ANY black person defends this absurd tokenism?
