Gen Z girls 'don't want to be an adult' after trip to grocery store reveals how expensive food is

Gen Z girls 'don't want to be an adult' after trip to grocery store reveals how expensive food is

The teenage girls were pretty shocked to learn how much grocery shopping costs

A pair of 'Gen Z' teenagers learned some pretty hard life lessons after going grocery shopping.

Anyone who does a weekly food shop will know that things are far from cheap at the moment - and don't seem to be getting cheaper any time soon.

A recent survey found that food prices have gone up an eye-watering 25 percent of late, CNBC reported in June.

And it's not just food prices that have gone up; many people have found that things like cable TV, gas and other housing costs have increased recently.

Long story short, adulting is hard - something which these teenagers recently learnt for themselves.

In a video shared to TikTok by one of the girls' moms, the two 17-year-olds expressed their desire to stay young forever.

Amber Morris, who shared the now-viral video, asked the teens: "So girls, what have we learned about grocery shopping?"

"I don't want to be an adult," Amber's daughter replied. "I takes me an hour's worth of working, and I still can't even buy this... it's three pieces of chicken."

Just wait until they realize how much the price of a McDonald's meals have gone up.

Amber titled the relatable video 'adulting is tough!' and it has since amassed over a million views on TikTok.

People have since replied to the video warning that the girls have much more to learn about adulting yet.

"Wait until they learn about how the money they make is taxed, and when they spend it it’s taxed again, and at the end of the year they are taxed again on their money that was already taxed and taxed," one person said.

A second said: "It hits different when you realize how many hours of your life is stolen by inflation."

Others echoed similar sentiments to Amber's daughter and said they don't want to adult anymore either.

"Yea I'm done being an adult. At 52 I'm ready for Senior Citizen status," wrote one.

Someone else agreed: "Me neither. I don't want to be an adult anymore."

"I called my mom crying the first time I went food shopping after moving out," another TikTok user related.

A different person said: "Welcome to adulthood. We all don’t wanna be here."

Best get saving for your futures (and food), girls!

Customer left ‘speechless’ after Chipotle server throws away entire bowl of food when they ask for more chicken

Customer left ‘speechless’ after Chipotle server throws away entire bowl of food when they ask for more chicken

People couldn't believe how casually the Chipotle server dumped the food into the trash

People were left utterly bemused after seeing a Chipotle server throw away a plate of food after the customer simply asked for a little bit more.

If you are a regular at Chipotle you know just how satisfying it is to get the perfect meal thanks to a brilliant server being generous.

Conversely, nothing can grind your gears quite like not getting enough in your order.

A TikTok user's video has gone viral after he recorded a worker binning his order and starting again when he asked for a little bit more chicken.

Yep, doesn't really make much sense and it seems many people on social media agreed.

Even in the clip you can hear the customer question why the server chucked the whole thing out.

The video - which was shared on banigocrazy's TikTok page - had many viewers asking... well, why they did that.

The user captioned the video, 'I’m speechless’, and the video caption read: "POV: Chipotle workers don’t like when you ask for more protein."

In the clip, the user is heard explaining what he wants on his Chipotle bowl order and when it comes to the meat, he said he wanted half and half steak and chicken. So far so good.

But before the server moves on, he asks if she can add a little bit more chicken to which the server turned around and placed the order in the bin.

The Chipotle worker then says they can do that and begins remaking the order. Bizarre.

The customer can even be heard asking why she threw it away, albeit in a very defeated tone.

Users on social media began weighing in on what happened and questioned why all the food had to be dumped rather than more chicken simply being added to the existing order.

“I’m so confused why she threw it away,” one wrote.

Some suggested the serve may have noticed there was something wrong with the order, like a fly or hair was already in the food.

While others remarked servers can face punishment if they do not know exactly how much food they are giving customers in their orders.

“As an ex chipotle employee is the managers who twist our arms to make sure we know exactly the portions we serve otherwise WE get punished,” one TikToker claimed.

While another added: "I don’t work at chipotle but I work at subway and there’s nothing more annoying than a customer asking for a little bit more MF THEY COUNT EVERYTHING."

UNILAD has contacted Chipotle for comment.

Safety experts warn to never eat four popular grocery store foods

Safety experts warn to never eat four popular grocery store foods

You should definitely avoid these four popular foods...

While we all love grabbing food from the convenience store, you might want to skip these four key dishes next time you're at the checkout.

This is after food safety experts raised some serious concerns about popular foods, with many being a breeding ground for bacteria (gross).

After they offered some much-needed food for thought, you might want to check out if your favourite made the stomach-churning list. We've added another that you'll want to check out below:

So, which foods should you be avoiding at grocery stores? According to a collective list by Kali Kniel, a microbiologist at the University of Delaware, and Dr. Bryan Quoc Le, a Washington-based food chemist and industry consultant, revealed to the Huffington Post, they are as follow:

1. Raw sprouts

It might surprise you but raw sprouts should come with a pretty major warning, despite their supposed health benefits.

Before you abandon your Christmas dinner plans though, it turns out that alfalfa sprouts and clover are a particularly risky side dish.

Sprouts are definitely best cooked.

Though beloved by hipsters and fans of avocado toast, the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says they often are swimming with salmonella and E.Coli.

While you can eat them raw, it’s recommended that you steam them if you don’t want to feel seriously green.

2. Pre-cut produce

Sadly, it’s the same with pre-cut produce like veggies and fruits – which also will contain high levels of bad bacteria.

Microbiologist Kali Kniel revealed that these packets are actually the ‘most susceptible’ for several reasons.

High levels of bad bacteria can lurk amongst pre-cut food like fruits and veggies.

She explained to the HuffPost that fruit skins will often contain tons of bacteria, as do pre-packed vegetables which get contaminated by dirty water and animal waste as they grow. (Grim!)

3. Raw, unpasteurized milk

It seems it is not much fun down on the farm, with unpasteurized milk also having a similarly rotten reputation among experts.

The majority of milk is pasteurized, with bacteria being killed after the drink has been heated in a specialised process.

Raw milk, however, does get this treatment with drinkers potentially being exposed to Listeria, Salmonella and E.coli.

Experts even warn those with a weakened immune system to avoid it, as Dr. Bryan Quoc Le explained to the HuffPost.

He told the outlet: “There are a lot of people who tout [raw] milk as having all these health benefits, but it’s just not worth the risk because there are a lot of pathogenic organisms that are still alive in that milk, especially if it’s coming straight from a processing facility.”

4. Hot food bars

If you think restaurants were any safer, especially all-you-can-eat joints, think again as Dr. Le also told readers to skip their favourite hot food bars.

According to the Washington consultant, hot dishes should be kept at 140 degrees Fahrenheit and cold kept under 41 degrees.

Failure to do this results in bacteria rapidly growing, which is why that cheap meal might come back to bite you.

Maybe stick with the food you’ve got at home?

Five Guys employee explains why the food is so expensive

Five Guys employee explains why the food is so expensive

Someone took to Reddit to query the fast food chain's prices.

If you've ever wondered why Five Guys is so expensive, you're not alone.

The fast food franchise is best known for its burgers and shakes - as well as being a little bit pricey.

Your average burger in Five Guys will set you back around $7, with a large fries thought to cost over $5.

The prices are similar in the UK too, sparking customers to question why it's so expensive.

"I don't understand five guys popularity in the UK," someone penned on Reddit yesterday (November 13).

"A single smooshed burger wrapped in tinfoil costs £10.25. Chips for £5 and a milkshake costs damn near seven quid!

"You're paying about £20 for a meal and it's not even that good or presented in a nice way. What's with its popularity?"

A former Five Guys employee has since replied to their question and explained why - in their experience - the food costs more than it does at other outlets.

They wrote: "Worked for the company for some time. You're mainly paying for the fact it’s all freshly prepared.

"Every morning you spend 3hrs making burger patties, cutting fries, shredding lettuce, tomato’s and so on. This also includes the milkshake add ins, you have to prepare them as well."

They added: "They don’t skimp on the products, they are expensive to buy in."

According to this person (who left the establishment in 2019), Five Guys also likes to 'splash money' on its employees.

"They took all the restaurant managers to Ibiza for a weekend not that long ago and had Daft Punk play a private gig for them," they said.

A spokesperson from Five Guys has echoed similar sentiments in the past about the company only using fresh ingredients.

Iain Ross-Mackenzie, Director Of Operations-APAC at Five Guys International, told The Rakyat Post last year: "Nothing in store is frozen. We only ever use fresh ingredients."

He added: "People come to Five Guys for a simple, great American burger. And that’s what they will get here."

With its fresh produce in mind, many Five Guys fans are happy to pay the slightly more expensive rates.

"It is slightly overpriced, but it’s waaaaay better than McDonalds, Burger King etc," someone penned on Reddit.

"Like, not in the same league at all."

Another person agreed: "I mean, yeah it's expensive. But what isn't? It's not that much more than other fast food now. But the quality is far better."

You get what you pay for, folks!

Food critic Keith Lee forced to cut short his latest review trip for tragic reasons

Food critic Keith Lee forced to cut short his latest review trip for tragic reasons

Keith Lee's family trip didn't go to plan

Keith Lee has spoken out following his recent trip to San Francisco.

The MMA fighter-turned-TikTok food critic travels around different parts of the US to review restaurants people have suggested to him.

From Atlanta and New York, to Detroit and Chicago, Lee has been travelling all over the country of late.

And the place he visited most recently is the San Francisco Bay Area; but the trip wasn't what Lee expected.

Upon announcing that he was going there, people warned the 27-year-old that it wasn't safe there at the moment and even compared it to Gotham City.

But Lee still took the trip, and he sadly ended up cutting the trip short.

Lee took to his TikTok page - where he boasts over 15 million followers - to share why.

"The Bay Area food tour is officially over prematurely," he said.

"I truly don’t believe the Bay is a place for tourists right now… the people of the Bay are just focused on surviving.

"The amount of tents and living structures and burnt-out cars that we saw people living in was shocking to say the least."

As well as safety concerns, Lee found that the food wasn't up to scratch.

With this in mind, he 'didn't feel comfortable' sharing his reviews.

"I’ve always been big on honesty, I’ve always been big on transparency, but I’ve never been big on completely tearing down anybody, and I feel like those six videos were only doing that," the dad-of-two said of the poor quality food.

He also had a trip to the emergency room while on his travels after suffering an allergic reaction.

Lee said he asked the restaurant (which he didn't name) to clean the grill after cooking shellfish on it, but he still 'blew up like a balloon' afterwards.

He went on to be given allergy medicine and steroids in hospital to clear up the reaction.

While Lee didn't have the best experience there, he did share some of his highlights from his tour of the area and name dropped some of the restaurants he liked. At one place, he even left a $2,000 tip.

He also praised the 'amazing' people of the Bay Area for the hospitality and love that they showed him and his family.

At the end of the TikTok, Lee said that his food tour will be continuing, but didn't share the next location he's visiting.
