Russia Russia Russia
This is Tim Pool, if you have never heard him before. Why is he wearing a hat in the summer? Is he bald? He seems to be a bit coked up.
The department of Justice unsealed an indictment today against ten individuals, including two RT employees, and seized 32 internet domains used by Russian agents to try to influence the U.S. election. Two Russian nationals were charged with conspiring to violate the foreign agents registration act and money laundering in a scheme to covertly influence us audiences. They are still at large.
Here is the unsealed indictment. It is in the U.S. District Court, southern district of New York:
“KOSTIANTYN KALASHNIKOV, a/k/a “Kostya,” and ELENA AFANASYEVA, a/k/a “Lena,” the defendants, have deployed nearly $10 million, laundered through a network of foreign shell entities, to covertly fund and direct U.S. Company-I. U.S. Company-I publishes English-language videos on multiple social media channels, including TikTok, Instagram, X, and YouTube. Using multiple fake personas, AFANASYEVA edited, posted, and directed…” https://d3i6fh83elv35t.cloudfront.net/static/2024/09/u.s._v._kalashnikov_and_afanasyeva_indictment_0.pdf
Money was laundered through an unnamed agency in Tennessee.
Podcasters identified as receiving laundered money are Tim Pool (red link) now in 9 languages LOL, Benny Johnson, and Dave Rubin. Also Canadian Lauren Southern.
The company is probably Tenet Media (red link). LOL, it’s now a stub. Tenet podcaster Matt Christiansen has also made a statement.
This was the first to print the story, more or less. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2024/09/tenet-media-russia/
I wonder how much you could get for just posting comments on a random website, like Kumioko on Sucks and Reddit, or TDA on Wikipediocrazy. We had some very determined spammers here as well, and I guarantee they did not find those links on their own.
(TDA claims to be a “liberal”??!? I wish the Wikipediocrazies would get him to explain THAT one!!!1!)
For some reason Charlie Kirk is getting mentioned a lot here. This is a podcast with former federal prosecutor Ron Filipkowski and British journalist Anthony Davis. The first 8 minutes or so of the video is about the latest school shooting and the political demographics of the respective districts. I have linked directly to where the indictment coverage starts.
~~~~Just as a side note, Wikipediocracy has been having unexplained “server issues” again, lasting from about Sept 2-4. Never heard the reason, although the reasons last time were something on the order of “the dog ate the homework”.
GD also experienced some “site not found” type of issues last week, for about two days, very unusual, since WordPress subdomains are usually rock solid. Coincidink?
and a big welcome to my 41 new Russian readers. I don’t now how they have managed to access the site without showing what post they are reading or making this particular post trend in the sidebar–they must have some Mad Skilz–but please do come in and and make yourselves at home.
Did you know the song “Ra, Ra, Rasputin” has been banned in Russia and in Poland? But not here. Enjoy.
The song was re-recorded in 1997 with Alexander Buinov, who “was included on a 2019 list of blacklisted people banned from performing in Ukraine due to his links to the Putin government.”
It’s not banned here. We have EVERYTHING.
Hamas indictment
The U.S. DOJ has indicted the following:
ISMAIL HANIYEH, was the chairman of Hamas’s Politburo from 2017 until his reported death on or about July 31, 2024. Prior to 2017, HANIYEH was the deputy chairman of the Politburo and the leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip. HANIYEH was based principally in Turkey and Qatar.
YAHYA SINWAR, a/k/a “Abu Ibrahim,” 61, is the leader of Hamas. Previously, beginning in approximately 2017, he was the leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, and is one of the founders of the al-Qassam Brigades. SINWAR is based principally in the Gaza Strip.
MOHAMMAD AL-MASRI, a/k/a “Mohammed Deif,” a/k/a “al Khalid al-Deif,” was the commander in chief of the al-Qassam Brigades, a position he held from in or about 2002 until his reported death on or about July 13, 2024. AL-MASRI was based principally in the Gaza Strip.
MARWAN ISSA, a/k/a “Abu Baraa,” was the deputy commander of the al-Qassam Brigades from approximately 2007 until his reported death on or about March 10, 2024. ISSA was based principally in the Gaza Strip.
KHALED MESHAAL, a/k/a “Abu al-Waleed,” 68, was the chairman of Hamas’s Politburo from approximately 2004 to 2017, and is now the head of Hamas’s diaspora office—effectively responsible for Hamas’s official presence outside of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. MESHAAL is based principally in Qatar.
ALI BARAKA, 57, has been Hamas’s head of National Relations Abroad since approximately 2019, and was previously Hamas’s representative in Lebanon. BARAKA is based principally in Lebanon.
Only three of these are still alive, Yahya Sinwar, Khaled Mashal, and Ali Baraka.
I’m surprised Hassan Nasrallah didn’t make it onto any list.
So what gives?
Obviously they messed with American citizens. But why now?
Does anyone really think Sinwar will live very long if he is captured or surrendered to the Israelis? Or if he gives up the remaining hostages? No way, he has absolutely no motivation to let the captives go. As the Jerusalem Post says, he is a “dead man walking”. And it is being said that when Bibi visited Mar al Lago last month, he made a deal with Trump not to make a hostage deal in order to help Trump with the election. (hmm, it’s scrubbed already… https://web.archive.org/web/20240727003710/https://abc7.com/post/donald-trump-meets-benjamin-netanyahu-mar-lago-mending/15100468/ )
But what if Sinwar (and leaders of the other brigades holding hostages) surrendered to the U.S.? Would he go to Guantanamo? Could the U.S. extradite him, in the unlikely event Israel captured him alive? Maybe some other country would capture him and turn him over?
I sense some complicated dance taking place in the wings.
Is there money to claim for reparations?
Biotranswomen
This seems to be taking off.
As far as I can tell, the salient terms are “biotranswoman” and “cistranswoman”, as oppressed and oppressor.
This is the original one that went viral.
Oh I just realized, this is the “brat summer” dance. Stephen Colbert demonstrates….
Scrubbed! (It’s back online, so maybe that was just temporary.) And it was his best one, but here is a different one, or google “stephen colbert does brat dance” https://www.tiktok.com/discover/stephen-colbert-brat-dance.
Here is another (similar) thread from their Twitter. You notice the preview does not show below the waist, but if you click through, it is NSFW. Come for the selfies, stay for the comments.
This also seems to be them, there’s probably a couple more if you go looking. @translilyx @lovingtransalex @lilytransxx
These may be based on something called transmaxxing manifesto, but that’s a rather unpleasant rabbit hole, with incels and the whole bit, and I’m not going to go down it here, just mention it in passing to show they did not just make this stuff up out of the blue.
Some Twitter screenshots have been posted on YouTube, but it seems that Twitter is brigading them, and it keeps getting taken down.
Now here is a different person, more along the format of a Jeffery Marsh or Dylan Mulvaney.
I think this is the same person, only on TikTok.
If you are not familiar with Jeffery “no contact” Marsh, (she does a bit about him) here is a sample:
Sinwar
“If once you have paid him the Dane-geld,
you never get rid of the Dane” —Kipling
With the latest tragedy of the hostages, it occurred to me that the real goal of the Israeli government might be more long term than the lives of a few hundred people they are not personally related to, and I thought to google Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind of the Oct. 7 attacks.
Ismail Haniyeh was just assassinated a few weeks ago in Iran, but how much more they must want to get Sinwar. And Sinwar must be smack dab in the middle of any hostage negotiations.
Sure enough, I was not the first person to think of this. There are a few think pieces, all within the last 48 hours. Taken together, they pretty much conclude that the ending of the war depends on taking Sinwar, but that even though they know where he is, they haven’t taken him yet because of danger to the hostages that he surrounds himself with as human shields. The lone exception is the Jerusalem Post, Israel’s unofficial newspaper of record, which mentions Sinwar in passing as “dead man walking” but expends quite a lot of ink talking about a potential invasion of Lebanon, with some Iran thrown in for good measure.
Here is a sampling:
- This one is kind of bland and says nothing. Checking the author, it was written by an assistant professor at an Arab university. ‘Why Haven’t You Liberated Palestine Yet?’: Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar’s Relentless Race To Achieve His Goals https://newlinesmag.com/argument/why-havent-you-liberated-palestine-yet-hamas-leader-yahya-sinwars-relentless-race-to-achieve-his-goals/
- “What helped Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar evade US, Israeli surveillance tools, techniques” https://www.theweek.in/news/world/2024/08/31/what-helped-hamas-leader-yahya-sinwar-evade-us-israeli-tools-techniques.html
- “Netanyahu priority may be Sinwar, not Gaza cease-fire“. This is just a recap of stories, the only one about Sinwar is “As he stalls Gaza talks, Israel’s Netanyahu prioritizes capturing Sinwar“. Paywalled, but this is the synopsis: “The recent rescue of a hostage held in Gaza boosts assessments in Israel that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar is under growing pressure and could be captured soon.”
- Deeply critical of the Israeli government for not being hard line enough. “A strike won’t bring the hostages back, but it will harm Israel” . “Opinion: No matter what Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar does – every monstrous and inhumane act – Israel’s public demands that he be given more incentives to harden his positions” https://www.ynetnews.com/article/ry0wkvmn
- Another hardline pro-Netanyahu piece: “Sinwar’s Israeli accomplices: The generals, the left’s political leaders and the rioters in the streets are all playing the roles the Hamas chief assigned them.” https://www.jns.org/sinwars-israeli-accomplices/
- “Hamas leader Sinwar ‘surrounded by 22 handcuffed hostages'” https://www.israelhayom.com/2024/08/28/hamas-leader-sinwar-surrounded-by-22-handcuffed-hostages/ More details about ceasefire proposals.
- paywalled, and from last week, the NYT: “Israel’s Hunt for the Elusive Leader of Hamas: Yahya Sinwar’s ability to evade capture or death has denied Israel a military success in a war that began after he planned the Oct. 7 attacks.” https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/25/us/politics/israel-hamas-sinwar.html
So which will come first, Bibi losing his political power, the capture of Sinwar, or a negotiated hostage deal? I’m not betting on the last one any time soon.
His Wikipedia article in Ukrainian has just been updated to show he has a Russian wife, with a Russian passport, and a daughter who competes in sports on the Russian team. People’s Deputy Maryana Bezugla (Мар’яна Безугла), who published a message about Gladkyi’s appointment, was outraged that he has no experience working with UAVs.”Not only does he have no experience working with UAVs, but he was also suspected of treason, espionage and corruption, and also has a wife with a Russian passport, his daughter competed for Russia… it is unclear how he passed the Security Service of Ukraine check and still holds high positions. Not fair to put the guy in this position, when his family is obviously being held hostage in Crimea and so open to blackmail. Did they learn nothing from East Germany? For a good discussion of why the drones should not be under a separate operational command, see Denys the Ukrainian pilot’s latest YouTube. TLDR, the drones from the rear are being jammed by Ukrainians in the front. Only 15% of the drones are even getting through, compared to 60% before. These operational reports are not making it up the chain of command, for some reason the information is being suppressed.
Yep, looks like it.
It will probably be even higher tomorrow.
According to her Wikipedia article, Upton didn’t understand the original question, asked at a 2007 Miss Teen USA contest, and was thrown off. She was able to answer later during an interview. It does seem like a weird question.
But for Upton, the nightmare is just beginning again. With the internet, it’s never over, is it. The nightmare never ends.
What Belgorod doing?
Did Ukraine just open up a new front? Or maybe two or three new fronts?
Something is going on, because the Russian milbloggers all just went crazy at the same time, while Ukrainian sources have gone silent, which is typically what they do during a new offensive.
For weeks there has been a huge concentration of Ukrainian troops near the border south of Belgorod. Did everyone think they were going to just sit around and drink coffee forever?
Rumors abound: Staryi Khutor in Valuysky district, Dronovka and Poros villages in Grayvoron district in Belgorod oblast. Nekhoteevka and Zhuravlevka near the Nekhoteevka border crossing, also new activity at the Shebekino border checkpoint at the Belgorod border. And the 155th Brigade is again accused of atrocities.
Meanwhile, back in Kursk….new video of Kursk “special operation”, based on this website.
And what about Belarus? Lukashenko is suddenly moving troops to the border; the tanks have been marked with a “B”, but have not been equipped with any drone protection. Did Putin order Lukashenko to the border or is there a new Lukashenko-Zelensky pact to divide Russia? Maybe it’s just that Russian troops are on the run in Kursk, and no longer in a position to protect/ prop up Belarus /Lukashenko.
Meanwhile Lukashenko is making cryptic comments about Pavel Durov, who some speculate may be a Russian asset who has just defected to the West.
According to the Internet,
“Poland and the Baltics will invade Belaruz if lukashenko choses to invade Ukraine
Belaruz only has 50,000 active soldiers
Ukraine can kill them all in just two months”
“Guys, Belarus isn’t going to invade Ukraine, Lukashenko isn’t nearly dumb enough to do that
The only reason he’s still in power is because Russia suppressed protests back in 2021, things will be different this time around, too big of a risk for him to take”
Don’t underestimate Lukashenko’s ability to run circles around Putin while playing the clown. He has survived much longer than many of his Russian contemporaries.
[Pavel Durov has visited Russia more than 50 times since his “expulsion” in 2014: He was in Russia both when the FSB was suing him and on the very day the Kremlin publicly dropped its claims against Telegram]
This could be interesting, Telegram is one of few places that raw war footage can be posted, plus it is used extensively by Ukraine and Russia armed forces.
YouTube, for instance, will de-monetize videos that are judged to have too much graphic content, or possibly just videos that have had a lot of complaints from Russian bots. By the time an action is contested, and reversed, the opportunity for monetization has been lost.
