Tesla Insurance Coverages

Tesla Insurance offers full coverage options with various limits and deductibles that can be tailored to your needs. In some cases, we also offer additional coverages and discounts. Coverages may differ by state.

Coverage Types

Vehicle Coverage

Collision - Covers repair or replacement of your covered vehicle for collision-related vehicle damage
Comprehensive - Pays for covered damage to your covered vehicle caused by anything other than a collision, such as fire, theft, hailstorm, etc.
Rental - Covers reimbursements for expenses incurred to rent a substitute vehicle if the covered vehicle is unavailable due to accident
Roadside Assistance - Covers towing services in case of an accident and emergency roadside services

Liability Coverage

Bodily Injury - Covers medical expenses and lost wages for another person if the policyholder or covered driver is found at-fault
Property Damage - Covers repairs or replacement of another person's damaged vehicle and other property (e.g., garage, fence, etc.) if the policyholder or covered driver is found at-fault
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist - Covers the policy holder and covered drivers for injuries and property damage caused by another driver who is at-fault with insufficient or no insurance

Medical Coverage

Medical Payment - Offered in some states and covers accident-related medical expenses for the policyholder and covered drivers and their respective passengers, irrespective of fault
Personal Injury Protection - Offered in some states and protects you in a similar way as Medical Payment, but with additional benefits like reimbursement of lost wages, irrespective of fault

Multi-Car Discount - You have more than one vehicle insured under the same policy with Tesla Insurance. This discount will be applied to qualified customers automatically.

Auto Loan/Lease Gap Coverage - If you are leasing or financing your vehicle and your vehicle is determined to be a total loss or stolen, this coverage pays toward the gap between the actual cash value of your vehicle at the time of the incident and what is still owed on the vehicle.

California

Discounts:

Good Driver Discount - Driver has had their license for the last three years, during which time (subject to certain conditions) they had no major violations and no more than one minor violation/accident. This discount will be applied to qualified customers automatically.
Elite Driver Discount - Driver has not had any at-fault accidents or any violations in the last five years. This discount will be applied to qualified customers automatically.
Group Discount - Driver is currently a Tesla employee. Contact us to apply this discount to your Tesla Insurance policy.
Mature Driver Improvement Course Discount - Driver is over the age of 55 and has completed the Mature Driver Improvement Course (approved by CA DMV) within the last three years. Contact us to apply this discount to your Tesla Insurance policy.

Defensive Driving Course Discount - Driver is over the age of 55 and has completed the National Safety Council’s Defensive Driving Course (approved by IL DMV) or a state-approved motor vehicle accident prevention course within the last three years. Multi-Car Discount - You have more than one vehicle insured under the same policy with Tesla Insurance. This discount will be applied to qualified customers automatically.
Anti-Theft Device Discount - The vehicle is equipped with approved anti-theft devices, such as alarm or active disabling devices. This discount will be applied to all Tesla vehicles automatically. For non-Tesla vehicles, a confirmation of your vehicle’s qualification is required.

Minnesota

Discounts:

Defensive Driving Course Discount - The driver is over the age of 55 and has completed a motor vehicle accident prevention course or refresher course approved by the Department of Public Safety within the last three years. Contact us to see if your vehicle qualifies. Documentation may be required.
Anti-Theft Device Discount - The vehicle is equipped with an authorized anti-theft protective device provided and installed by the manufacturer or authorized dealer of the manufacturer. The device must do one or more of the following: (1) sound an alarm; (2) cause the vehicle horn to sound; (3) cause the vehicle lights to flash; or (4) cause the vehicle to be rendered inoperable. The device must be self-activating upon the locking of the passenger doors of the vehicle. This discount will be applied to all Tesla vehicles automatically. For non-Tesla vehicles, Tesla will have you confirm your vehicle’s qualification in your application process. Documentation may be required.

Defensive Driving Course Discount - Driver is over the age of 55 and has completed a traffic safety course (approved by NV DMV) within the last three years. Contact us to see if you qualify. Documentation may be required.
Multi-Car Discount - You have more than one vehicle insured under the same policy with Tesla Insurance. This discount will be applied to qualified customers automatically.
Autopilot Discount - The vehicle has qualifying autonomous features. This discount will be applied to all Tesla vehicles automatically. Contact us to see if your non-Tesla vehicle qualifies.
Airbag Discount - A discount will be applied if your vehicle is equipped with a driver’s side front airbag or airbags on both front sides.
Non-Stacking Discount - If you have more than one vehicle insured with Tesla Insurance and have Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist coverage selected, a non-stacking discount will apply.

Your vehicle is considered totaled if the repair cost exceeds the cash value of the vehicle.

Obtaining an SR-22/FR-44

A certificate of financial responsibility serves as proof your auto insurance policy meets the minimum liability coverage required by state law. Depending on the state, the certificate of financial responsibility is referred to as either an SR-22 or FR-44. While regulations vary by state, a certificate of financial responsibility is required by the state or a court for certain driving-related violations such as DUI and reckless driving convictions. Request a certificate of financial responsibility by contacting us. There is a flat fee you must pay per term when we file a financial responsibility certificate on your behalf.
