I don’t mind the sort of period theme of the dress. But I’m not just getting any clear message from it. I don’t know what Palo Alto Networks is trying to tell me. As for any “sexism,” I’ll be charitable — never jump to negative conclusions, but always assume the best constructions on things you don’t fully understand — and assume no such intentions. I am also NOT going to assume that this little vignette, which was probably designed by a consultant, was personally approved by the Board of Directors of Palo Alto Networks, and, therefore, represents the official policy of Pala Alto Networks. I am mature enough as a person, an adult, and as a professional to know how these things are done and that sometimes details like this can “slip through.” I’m not going to condemn — some might say “cancel” — Palo Alto Networks for it. They need a better designer. But, then again, what does Palo Alto Networks know about design.

Honestly… compared to what I’ve seen at automotive expos this barely registers for me which is probably sad. They are wearing stunning dresses and nothing showing that offends anyone. The bikini and thong shorts girls at automotive shows just makes me cross - and not a single guy could see why it might be sexist 🤦🏼♀️

So I am getting it now CyberRisk Collaborative is a name of a company and it was sponsored by Palo Alto Networks both have formerly apologized stating they didn’t know that that is basically what the even people were going to do. You can Google their apologies. The company they hired Champagne Creative Group has a whole package deal for models wearing lampshades, so not sure how they didn’t notice that line item? It’s gross I hate it, but it’s just the way it’s been since I started my career in 2002, so it doesn’t look like it’s going to change anytime soon. I really just don’t understand it, at all!

It’s bizarre in that there doesn’t seem to be a discernible theme or rationale for what they are staging here. It doesn’t make sense. On top of that, it is sexist (no men in lampshades? Why create a bizarre and confusion promo/staging just for women at a conference and in a field that has historically and continuously discriminated against and maligned woman?) and unacceptable. Palo Alto Networks - weak sauce all around.
