2024/08/27 Japan Typhoon Japan on Wednesday, 28 August 2024 was braced for its strongest typhoon of the year as Typhoon Shanshan (No. 10) approached the southern island of Kyushu. Tens of thousands of island residents have been told to evacuate the area and transportation services were suspended as authorities warned of a "major disaster". 2024/08/08 Japan Earthquake A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan at 16:43 on 8 August 2024, initially prompting a tsunami advisory for parts of the coast of Kyushu and Shikoku and for the Meteorological Agency to issue an alert warning of a further possible megaquake along the Nankai Trough area, off the east coast of Japan, for the first time. The earthquake registered a lower 6 on the seven-point Japanese seismic intensity scale, at a depth of 30 kilometers, with its epicenter in the Hyuganada sea off the coast of Miyazaki Prefecture. 2024/08/06 Yemen Flood Starting in March 2024, torrential rains and flooding hit Yemen, damaging infrastructure, destroying homes and shelters, and causing deaths and injuries. Devastating rains and flooding hit the country severely at the end of June 2024, worsening at the end of July and the first weeks of August 2024. Tens of thousands of families were affected, many of them already displaced. 2024/07/30 India Landslide On 30 July 2024, a series of landslides triggered by the monsoon rainfall occurred in the Wayanad district (Kerala state, southern India) and resulted in casualties and damage. According to media, at least 41 people have died, 70 others have been injured and a bridge has been destroyed. In addition, the landslides have cut off at least four villages, including Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha. 2024/07/25 Japan Flood Heavy rain has lashed northeastern Japan and has triggered river flooding and landslides, prompting the weather agency to issue downpour warnings at the highest level in parts of Yamagata Prefecture on Thursday, 25 July 2024. As of 26 July, at least two people were reported dead with multiple unaccounted.

The Thoughts of ADRC

ADRC was founded in 1998 in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture.
The mission is to enhance disaster resilience of its member countries, to create safe communities where people can live with peace of mind, and to create a society that enables sustainable development.
For the purpose, the ADRC is promoting the establishment of multilateral networks through personnel exchanges and a variety of other programs for disaster risk reduction in Asia.
