JTR Cap 2400 or PSA TV1813m

I got bit by the upgrade bug and have narrowed my choices down to these two subs for my room. I have a HSU VTF15 MK2 now and after some tweaking it is really nice but i want it to dig a bit deeper and just want a top tier sub for my budget of $4000 or less plus i have a local guy that wants mine for a second sub for his bigger dedicated room. I have no extra room to put a second sub anywhere since it is a smaller room, 15wx15Lx10h, and it is a living room so there are other things in there and i do not want to go DIY. I know there are pros and cons to both and it all depends on each persons needs, taste and budget but anyone with experience with one or both of these bad boys i would love to hear what you thought of them and why you may take one over the other.
Thanks

I understand you're more interested in movies and that's perfectly fine, for me, it is split between the music, movies and little gaming, hence the PSA TV1813m's duo. Brilliant in all spaces. I have not experienced JTR, but judging by what others are saying, they're good. If there is no music for you on the horizon, I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Another vote for the JTR.

I've always been intrigue with the fact that anytime someone discusses JTR subs, the term "Violent" is mentioned, and that alone makes a person curious....especially this person. Lol.

Well, I finally got a chance to experience JTR in action, and I must say that I was not disappointed in the least. Of course, this was a nearfield placed Cap4000, but one of the other members that was there owns a pair of the 2400ULF's, and I was able to get some valuable information from him about those to use as a comparison to the "Standard" version. Now, whenever you take into account what the new drivers added, then they become an even better sub because of the lower distortion, and the addition of better midbass just increases their performance value that much more.

FWIW, these were #1 on my very short list at one point, but due to budget constraints, I had to go with option #2...and the rest is history. :)

And for reference between older driver vs newer driver, here are the measurements for both.

I have been a fan of the Cap 2400ULF ever since it came out with it's original 14Hz port tune. And, I think it is still a terrific sub with a 10Hz port tune. But, for the same price, I would be choosing between the TV3613 and the Cap 2400ULF, and that wouldn't be a close contest in my opinion. The TV3613 has dual B&C 18" drivers, compared to a single high excursion 18" in the 2400. The cabinet volume of the PSA sub is almost 40% greater, and it has almost double the amplifier power at 4,000W RMS, compared to 2,400W. The Cap 2400 is a great sub, but even for movies, I think that the TV3613 would be subjectively better.

Regards,
Mike

Watching Tron: Legacy yesterday at -0 with the TV2112s going hard.

My wife: "MAN, I WOULD REALLY HATE BEING YOUR NEIGHBOR RIGHT NOW!"("your" not "our" btw)

Me: "WHAAAAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!"

The deep electronic musical tones of that soundtrack sound awesome on the 2112s. You can have them really loud without it being overbearing.

Wow reference level Tron? I would level my house if I did that o_O

You say you want to go deeper? Your room dimensions will only support bass to 78 Htz or the half length of 39 Htz. Because all of your dimensions are common denominators you probably have a lot of doubling and suck outs making bass very uneven. You may already have more bass that you think. Try throwing 6 sand bags in the corners of your room and see what happens. The sand acts as an aggregate converting vibration into heat.

With that said, for accuracy I recommend REL but if you want to power through your issues I would do a Bag End with their processor because they design the sub so that your room is the enclosure and the cabinet is the room.

I just purchased 2 EA. PSA TV1813-Ms to replace my SVS PB 13 Ultras. I'm very satisfied with the overall response, particularly below 20 Hz, compared to the SVS. My room is 24x17.5x9. I use REW and miniDSP 2x4 HD to time align the subs and tune the in-room response with a 10 dB room curve. REW graph attached. We just watched Maverick and it was amazing.

Perfect looking house curve, did that require many EQ filters?

It used 7 out of the 10 available in the 2x4 HD. The beauty is you just do the EQ in REW, save the filters to a file, then you simply load the saved filters file into the miniDSP with one click. I have a Theta Casablanca with Dirac, but this method gives me much better results than Dirac, and the miniDSP has 4 individually programmable outputs for up to 4 subs.

Do you find that house curve ate into your headroom alot? I try and do minimal EQ to preserve headroom but I listen loud (-3 to -5 MV with BEQ).

You could almost get TWO tv1813m’s ($3999 total. PSA doesn’t charge tax or shipping) for about the same price as ONE JTR 2400 ($3599 + tax and shipping).

Seems like a more fair comparison would be between the JTR 2400 and the TV 3613 (dual 18” drivers) or Tv21 ipal.

Or better yet…

PSA has preorder specials going right now on the new TV2112-m and Tv2112m - ipal.

The Tv2112m is only $2099 on presaleor $3999 for duals! until thanksgiving. Then it goes up slightly. I sooo wish I could get in on the presale! I got the Tv1813m when it was on presale and would love to eventually add a 2nd (not because I need it), or even better a Tv2112m. I was thinking of jumping on the presale but then my TV decided to start dying on me so that just ate up the savings I had put away for home theater upgrades. ☹

I think he has some size limitations that rule out the tv3613 iirc. in a sheer size/output <25hz contest jtr is hard to beat. I routinely steer people to either dss or the s1 when they are focused on sheer displacement <25hz from compact subs. We do some things so well I think we're hard to beat. But other things, maybe not quite that well. It's okay for brands to say that...even though it seems we might break the internet by doing so..:)

Thank you all for the information and the advice. I pulled the trigger on the JTR 2400 a few days ago. It came down to just the overwhelming positive reviews and tons of people not blinking an eye and saying JTR not only on here but other forums too... plus the size of the box is just about at my absolute limit without causing space issues. I feel any of the two or three options i had would have been an great upgrade over my current hsu vtf-15 mk2 but went with the JTR.
Thank you all!!
