As we look forward to Labour Day, there’s still time to enjoy outdoor music and dance, tour a national historic site or take in a family movie.

Here are 10 things to do this week in Hamilton.

Music in the City

Don’t miss the final week of Music in the City, a free, lunchtime concert series in the Jackson Square rooftop garden (2 King St. W.) This week, Hayley Verrall, a pop country artist from Burlington, performs from noon to 2 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

IBL baseball

The Hamilton Cardinals are facing the London Majors in a best-of-five quarterfinal playoff series this week. Game four of the series at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium (1100 Mohawk Rd. E.) is Tuesday evening at 7:35 p.m. General admission tickets are $14 via ticketweb.ca.

Music and dance on King William Street

The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra’s Downtown Summer Concert Series and the 73’ Til Infinity series are coming to King William Street on Wednesday, with music and dance suitable for all ages. King William Street will be closed to vehicles for the day, with all festivities staged between James Street North and Hughson Street.

First up at 12:30 p.m., the HPO Brass Quintet will play iconic hits from film and television. Guests are invited to grab a seat at a restaurant patio, or bring a lawn chair to enjoy the music.

At 7 p.m., visitors can enjoy the 73’ Til Infinity dance series. Celebrate hip-hop’s evolution with performances, dance battles and live DJs. Performers include the Brown Brothers, DJ Fazooli, DJ Onglish Wav, Tarek Funk, S.O.A.P, and more. 73’ Til Infinity is a free event curated by Josh Taylor and Defining Movement Dance, presented by the City of Hamilton.

Watch for temporary road closures on King William Street, James Street North and Hughson Street North on Aug. 28 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Staircase improv comedy

The Staircase Theatre (25 Dundurn St. N.) hosts Wednesday Scenes, an open drop-in workshop for all levels of improv comedy experience. Beginners can work alongside experienced improv comedians in a supportive environment. The next session is Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. Admission is $10. See more details at staircasehamilton.com.

Music series

“Sounds Gay” is a monthly music series for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community at the Casbah Lounge (306 King St. W.) The next session is Wednesday at 7 p.m. Visit casbahlounge.ca for more details.

Late Night at HMCS Haida

Learn about Canadian naval history at HMCS Haida National Historic Site (Pier 9, 658 Catharine St. N.) The ship is open on Thursday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. for a unique date night or family outing. Admission is $4.50 for adults, $4 for seniors and free for youth.

Music on the Waterfront

A free live concert series concludes this Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Pier 8 (47 Discovery Dr., Hamilton.) Bring a lawn chair and enjoy sunsets on the water with live music. On Aug. 29, hear The Personics.

Speed dating

Meet your match during a speed dating event on Thursday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Corktown Irish Pub (175 Young St.) Tickets are $38 online. Participants can meet between eight and 15 people with a chance to make a special connection.

Family movie

“The Muppet Movie” screens on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Westdale Theatre (1014 King St. W.) It’s part of the Westdale’s Jim Henson showcase series. All tickets are $8.25. Visit thewestdale.ca.
