Sorry, Elon, But Businesses Rely on Regulation
Anyone who wants to make the federal government more efficient will find that the bureaucracy has some surprising defenders.
There are more where those came from.

Elon Musk has hinted that he would take a job in a Trump administration, posting on X that he would be “willing to serve” in the “Department of Government Efficiency.” Unfortunately, even Musk — who fired about 80% of the staff of then-Twitter after buying it, yet has managed to keep the service functional, even vital — would find it very hard to clear away unnecessary regulation and bureaucracy.
Consider the relatively straightforward idea, popular in some Republican circles, of firing large numbers of federal bureaucrats. There would be immediate objections, not only from the employees themselves but also from US businesses.
