The reconditioning component post surgery IMO is the most important part (for successful return to sport & performing) YET the athletes invest little money into it & talk about how the surgeon doing their surgery is the same one who did AFL player (insert name here) LOL It frustrates me because most (not ALL) surgeons see the athlete getting the surgery as a number & $$ and really don’t care about successful outcomes for the individual 💯 (just look at how much education they give for pre & post op exercise based rehab & conservative management of ACL ruptures) Also all these surgeons are in an “orthopaedic” group (knee, shoulder, hip etc) and what they do to keep $$ in their group is send all athletes post surgery to these physiotherapists who have no business what so ever completing rehab programs (past early - early stage - I mean anyone with no back ground & common sense could complete this ie get swelling down, get extension through knee, keep quad activated, gait re education etc) for athlete who want to come back to sport 🤦♂️ I have seen 100s of athletes @ @woodfordssc who have been through this cycle only to spend $1000s, to go no where, been given a generic program, gas lit & re injure or never come back to sport because of lack of confidence in the knee & not developing critical athletic attributes needed to come back to sport & perform (& not re injure their knee) They might have letters behind their name, act professional & be seen as a medical professional but these people should never take on athletes who want to come back to sport as they have zero back ground in coaching athlete moreover IMO it’s malpractice and the athlete should be able to sue them once their rehab fails and it WILL 💯 ACL surgery & the rehab group that follows is a billion $$ industry & keeps growing ! If surgery was the answer we should see less re ruptures but we are not hence why conservative management & rehab with an individual who has a back ground in coaching/athletic development is the only way forward 💪💯 I am very passionate on this subject and this is a hill I am willing to die on 🙌 I want to raise the bar and we should expect better!

G R A T I T U D E ✨ You may have seen that I recently attended the Franchise Council of Australia’s #NationalFranchiseConference. On day 1, I took a moment to look at everyone in the room. For the longest time I would log in and listen to #CLEs presented by the brightest legal minds in this field and here I was talking with them! 🤩 I’ve by no means made it. But what a surreal moment it is to arrive at a place you always dreamed of going. Part of the action and not just watching from the sideline! It truly was a ‘pinch me’ moment. So I thought I’d share some personal reflections I mused on during the course of last weekend. This post is particularly for the up and coming legends, who may be watching from afar (and who, like me just a few years ago, experience FOMO): 🧘🏼♀️ Be patient - your time will come. You will blink and soon you will be attending industry events and having conversations you’ve been dying to be a part of. Be patient and trust the process! 💪🏽 Work hard - keep your head down and do the work. There is no better feeling than contributing your experience or comments on concepts that you find interesting/ perplexing and that you’ve genuinely wrestled with. Your conversations will be so much more thought provoking and sincere and you’ll feel like you deserve to be there. There is no substitute for hard work. 🫂Find your tribe - Find an organisation that not only tolerates your quirks but celebrates them! 💃🏼 It sounds too good to be true, but trust me, when you choose people who choose you, you WILL flourish 🦋 🤓 Learn from everyone - every single person has valuable insights. Sometimes your opponents in matters will teach you more on a transaction than your supervisors. At the conference, I took the opportunity to ask people what they least like about dealing with lawyers 😬 These are insights you can’t buy! 🛑 STOP & look how far you’ve come - Remember when you sat your first exam? Or when you wrestled with the concept that is ‘Hearsay’ 😵💫 or when you nailed your first client meeting by yourself? How about when your client emailed you directly and thanked you for your efforts? You are killing it and you need to occasionally stop and take a look at how far you’ve come. It will help you to see where you’re going and where you want to be 🫶🏽 🙏🏽 Practice Gratitude - there are so many little wins we experience in a day. Too often we let an ordinary 5 minute period overshadow them. Maybe it’s the sunshine on your skin, a coffee from the legends in your building (I’m looking at you Parties Plus & Chris Hekeik 🤤) a conversation with an awesome client about the weekend or maybe it’s positive feedback from your boss. Take a moment to ‘bank’ the positives in your day and use it as fuel to keep going 👊🏽 You’ve got this. EL 🥂

There’s a bunch of well researched, scientifically proven supplements I can (almost) guarantee you’ve never heard. Yet, they’re out there (in at least 450 health food stores across Aus, and in a growing number of pharmacies too) because our company - Propel Health - is making them. But I cannot judge you for not knowing what these supplements are, who they benefit and why people take them because I had no idea about them until recently. Mid-2023 Elisha and I started a supplement company (there’s a bit more to the story which involves receivers, lawyers, redundancies, trademarks and a whole heap of stuff we can discuss another time) that produces Naturopathic supplements. Surrounded by some good people (and some not-so-good-people… We can chat about this later too) our products are distributed nationally and we continue to grow. Initially, the plan was to build momentum with the Naturopathic supps and then pivot/add the sports/performance supplements. But as I have learned more about these ingredients, powders, formulations and products (every night on Pub Med!), so I have wanted to spread the word! Introducing Moringa Powder Pop Quiz What has - more vitamin C than oranges, - higher amounts of vitamin A than carrots, - more calcium than milk, and - more potassium than bananas. Yup, you guessed it - Moringa! : ) In addition, Moringa has - four times the fibre of oats. - nine times the iron content of spinach, and Might be useful for your female athletes who suffer from anemia. The Anti-… Supplement Another study suggests it possesses - anti-inflammatory, - antihypertensive, - antioxidant, - anti-diabetic, and hepato-protective properties. Superfood? And some people are calling it a Superfood - you knew that was coming, didn’t you? (One study concludes Moringa is a "highly nutritional super food...".) Celebrity endorsed Apparently Mark Wahlberg posted a reel about his morning routine and there was Moringa powder on his breakfast table, so this might be more mainstream than I realised. Try before you Recommend As with any nutritional supplement, my advice would be to learn as much as you can about it and then possibly experimenting with it yourself before recommending to clients, athletes or patients. You’ll get 15% off Wonder Foods Moringa powder when you order by adding this discount code at check out: Moringa15 https://lnkd.in/gBEiRyFR If you have any comments or questions, reach out. What will our children remember? Weekend sport is becoming harder to watch. As a father of 2 young men, it’s incredible to see how much excitement weekend sports brings them. An opportunity to engage in a sport they love, to emulate their heroes and try out new skills they’ve learnt throughout the week. Yet all this joyful anticipation is crushed when success of weekend sport is defined by a win. Yes, I’m an advocate for competition - but what we as parents need to remember is that our kids look to us to see how we manage our reactions to winning and losing, to events which occur in the game. We scream out unnecessary feedback… “come on, shooooootttttt!”… our kids wait all week to have that opportunity in front of goals, do we really need to scream directions at them constantly. Trust your kids to be confident enough to take on challenges sports provides them. Give them enough credibility they understand the objective. Show the coaches who volunteer their time respect by not giving conflicting advice to your kid only creating uncertainty in their mind and creating unnecessary stress… how well do you focus and perform with someone you care about constantly yelling at you? Sport is about engagement and enjoyment. What will our children reflect on in years to come? The fun they had playing a sport they love? Or the carrying on of parents and supporters placing ridiculous pressure on kids to win. If your first comment to your kids after a game is directed to how they can improve their performance… it’s time to rethink your approach. #sporting-parents

I'll be presenting at the STARS Student Success Conference in Melbourne next week #unistars. I'd love to hear how others are measuring the equity of their initiatives and making their co-curricular programs more inclusive. Presentation title: Your cohort by numbers – mapping equity of participation in co-curricular student experience initiatives. Abstract: Advancing equity is a priority in higher education. As many universities work toward parity in their student cohorts, the University of Queensland (UQ) Faculty of Science Student Experience team is monitoring student participation in co-curricular activities to assess the parity of participation and identify areas for improvement. In this presentation we will share how we collect and analyse these data to improve our programs. We will facilitate discussion about how equity of participation is measured at other institutions and share good practice tips for making co-curricular programs more inclusive.

Term three is on the horizon and in school-based career education that means decisions. Subject selection, HE or VET pathways, study destinations, gap year etc. For our kids it will feel like they're approaching a fork in the road with no map. They'll likely believe that only one road leads to success, so they'd better get it right. On 24th July I'm doing something a little different, a webinar for students. I'll share six ideas that will help senior secondary students think about their future with confidence. I hope to allay some fears and encourage optimism and adaptability. If you have 15-17 year olds in your life, encourage them to sign up. If you're old, you can sneak in too. I'll talk about: 🛣 Different kinds of post-school pathways. 🙃 Why it’s OK if you don’t know what you want to do. 🧠 Why it’s OK to change your mind. 💯 Why ATAR might not be as important as you think. 💻 How to research your options. 🤝 Who to talk to for help. What drives Australia's dominance in Olympic swimming and other countries' success in specific sports? According to Professor Frederik Anseel, Dean of UNSW Business School and organisational psychology expert, culture and economic wealth play an important role. “There are two principles that explain dominance in one sport. The first is: talent is evenly distributed, but opportunity is not. The second is: build a comparative advantage,” says Frederik. “Australia is a warm country with lots of sunshine and ocean beaches, and is wealthy enough to build many swimming pools. While there are other countries in this situation, there has been a focus on swimming lessons and competitions for generations of Australians, which led to an early advantage in competitive swimming.” How does a small economic advantage play a critical role in one country dominating a sport – making it hard for other countries to catch up? Another successful school visit. Today's adventure, Cabramatta High School ! It was very thrilling to know how interested students were when it came to our top 3 Bachelor courses, and what can be offered as a student at Crown Institute of Higher Education. Growing up within the area, I can understand how daunting it is when you (the student) approaches a "mysterious" institute to ask the first question. Trust me, I was once in that position when it came to knowing about my tertiary options for my academic future. To see students perk up when they hear that they're entering CIHE to only see so many educational benefits and knowing that they are leaving with qualifications that puts them on the same starting line as many other students - What makes them stand out is that they have the skills and knowledge to be able to be work ready within their chosen industry. But I get it, sometimes we want to aim high. Though, in my honest opinion, a 50 ATAR to enter a Bachelor course with competitive prices sounds like a good deal. Hello, not to mention a possible chance of receiving a scholarship if I were to do a (free) Early Entry Program? It's such a great way to really see what else is offered by CIHE. Did you know that CIHE will be present at the HSC and Careers Expo at The Winx Stand, Royal Randwick Racecourse from Thursday, 30 May to Saturday, 1 June? If you would like to know about Crown Institute of Higher Education, I highly suggest for you to come to our stall at Level 1, Stand N7. #highereducation #tertiaryeducation #schoolvisit #marketing #cihe #crowninstituteofhighereducation #50atar #ATAR #HSC2024 #highschool #Education #Sydney #Canberra
