I've been doing time in adult prisons since age 16—a kid among grown men. Born into the world with a high spirit out of the womb, but without guidance to channel this energy, my blessings became my downfall. Nevertheless, "not even a pure thoroughbred can buck it forever" (a scene from Carlito's Way, the movie).
Naturally, we must refine ourselves to society's norms: civility, responsibility, and humbleness. In other words, a high spirit soars with purpose rather than without. It is along these principles I continue to learn, build, and grow on some real positive stuff in preparation for my eventual return back to the streets.
