The Times view on western support for Ukraine: Tools for the Job

Sir Keir Starmer must signal his solidarity with Kyiv by authorising the use of British-made missiles on targets inside Russia

Ukraine has holed a third strategic bridge in its nimble campaign inside Russia but it struggles to present a plan for its operations in the Kursk ­region. The best bet is that President Zelensky ­intends to build a buffer zone on Russian territory and thus keep the Ukrainian population more secure if a peace accord is ever reached. He also counts on diverting Russia’s troops away from eastern Ukraine.

Delivering military success to Ukraine, however, depends on a reliable flow of weaponry and the continuing political will of its western allies.
