Co-development and co-production are different. They involve: 💠 Shared ownership: Stakeholders from communities, governments, and funders work together to define problems, solutions, and success metrics. 💠 Joint decision-making: Power imbalances are addressed, with all parties having a say in project design and implementation. 💠 Capacity building: Technical expertise flows both ways, strengthening local knowledge and fostering long-term sustainability.   My opinion regarding the recent @Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) announcement. Recent discussions within the sustainable finance community have been ignited by the @Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) announcement regarding the use of carbon credits for abatement of scope 3 emissions. However, it is important to note that no change has been made to SBTi current standards.   (Clarification statement to the SBTi Board of Trustees - April 11 2024)      To me, an SBTi certification should be supplemented with a thorough analysis of companies' strategies and measures for decarbonization, essential for mitigating future risks for investors, corporates and society at large. The analysis should focus on analyzing the efforts made by a company to genuinely reduce its carbon footprint. The use of carbon credits does not reduce emissions. Only measures that avoid or mitigate emissions can reduce emissions. Carbon offsetting only makes sense for emissions that cannot be avoided. While carbon credits offer a temporary solution, they do not encompass the holistic approach necessary for effective climate change mitigation. 🌳 Central banks, regulators and supervisors are urged to intervene in main drivers of nature loss and climate change alongside governments WWF´s Greening Financial Regulation Initiative launches today its first Introductory deforestation and conversion Guide for central banks, financial regulators and supervisors. Deforestation and conversion of forests and other ecosystems are an important cause of nature and climate related risks that can lead to the collapse of entire financial systems. Healthy Ecosystems as Carbon Sinks · Rich, diverse ecosystems with a variety of plants and healthy soil act as powerful carbon sinks. Forests, mangroves, and wetlands store vast amounts of carbon dioxide. Protecting and restoring these habitats directly reduces the amount of GHGs in the atmosphere. · By supporting conservation efforts in these areas, biodiversity finance plays a crucial role. This can involve funding the creation of protected areas, sustainable forestry practices, and the restoration of degraded lands. · Climate finance can further amplify these efforts by specifically targeting projects that enhance the carbon-storing capacity of ecosystems. This could involve supporting the development of payment for ecosystem services (PES) schemes that reward communities for protecting carbon-rich forests. Examples of Synergy in Action · Forest Landscape Restoration: Biodiversity finance can support the restoration of degraded forests, increasing their ability to absorb carbon while also providing habitat for diverse species of fauna and flora. Climate finance can further incentivize these efforts by focusing on the specific carbon sequestration benefits. · Sustainable Land Management: Biodiversity finance can promote practices that improve soil health and fertility, leading to increased carbon storage in agricultural lands. Climate finance can complement this by funding research on regenerative farming techniques that enhance carbon sequestration alongside improving agricultural productivity and animal grazing practices. Overcoming Challenges for Enhanced Impact · Integration and Collaboration: Breaking down silos between biodiversity and climate finance is crucial. Joint initiatives and funding mechanisms that consider both objectives are essential. · Monitoring and Measurement: Developing robust methods to measure and track the carbon sequestration benefits of biodiversity-focused projects is necessary. This will allow for a clear demonstration of their impact on GHG reduction. By fostering a collaborative approach and prioritizing nature-based solutions, biodiversity and climate finance can become powerful weapons in our fight against climate change. A healthy and biodiverse planet is not just good for nature, it's essential for mitigating climate change and ensuring a sustainable future.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) estimates current global biodiversity finance at USD 78-91 billion annually, far short of the estimated USD 722-967 billion needed per year by 2030. 𝘒𝘦𝘺 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘳𝘴 🔸 Multilateral Organizations: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) allocate a portion of their funding to biodiversity conservation projects. 🔸 Development Banks: The World Bank and regional development banks are increasingly integrating biodiversity considerations into their projects. 🔸 National Governments: Domestic public finance plays a crucial role, with some countries establishing dedicated biodiversity funds. 🔸 Private Sector: Investments with positive biodiversity outcomes are gaining traction, with companies exploring nature-based solutions and sustainable practices. 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘔𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘮𝘴 🔹 Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES): This approach compensates land managers for the environmental services their land provides, such as carbon sequestration or water purification. 🔹 Biodiversity Bonds: These financial instruments raise capital for biodiversity conservation projects, offering investors a return on their investment. 🔹 Blended Finance: Combining public and private finance can unlock new resources for biodiversity projects, leveraging public grants to attract private investment. Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink!!,Yes, (undrinkable) flood water is abundant in a number of parts of the world but water is unfortunately not in many others where the situation is getting worse. No water for agriculture, animals and little for us humans unless it comes in a bottle the cost of which is way beyond the reach of millions of people. BUT, there is good news! A growing number of new "water" technologies are coming to market to conserve, clean, transform from seawater to drinking water and create same from the atmosphere. Companies that I know well, such as Collaborate Water and SkyH2O, are addressing this huge problem of water shortage where it's needed most and that's not Southest England of Florida.. Whilst Evrensel is already involved in the water sector, particularly in Africa, I am thinking of creating Evrensel WATER just like Evrensel GOLD SERVICES and Evrensel GREEN. Anyone out there want to pitch in and help me?

Improving the #sustainability profile of #farming is central to meeting global sustainability goals on #climate and #biodiversity. The #agriculture sector is responsible for around a third of global greenhouse gas emissions, and it's also linked to at least 90% of deforestation. It is therefore understandable that some regions are beginning to regulate this sector to bring it in line with sustainability goals, such as the EU's new regulations to promote climate-smart and nature-positive farming—often labelled "regenerative agriculture." However, today a tradeoff exists between the industry's environmental and financial sustainability, which needs to be carefully navigated by new policies. CDP's 2023 Climate Transition Plan Disclosure is out! Here are the key takeaways: - Climate transition plan indicators are converging across major frameworks like CDP, International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB)'s IFRS S2 (TCFD), EU's ESRS, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Climate rules, UK's TPT, GRI, and Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ). - Sectors that inherently focus on long-term strategic planning and sustainable returns, such as power generation (32%), financial services (30%), and infrastructure (24%), are leading in climate transition disclosures. - Climate transition plans appear to be a higher priority for companies that are publicly listed. Europe's FTSEurofirst 300 (77%) and Korea's KOSPI 200 (74%) are top-performing climate transition disclosure indexes. - The companies that disclosed to CDP that they would develop a climate transition plan in 2021, only 44% established a plan by 2023, with just 25 disclosing plans credibly. We are in the most critical decade of environmental action. Companies are grappling on how to take meaningful climate action and be Paris aligned.
