Evey NPP after several years? The nuclear pellets (rods) need to be replaced. Not all. Just the one's the is "spent" (loose must of the useful radioactivity).

So, After a decade of NPP operations? You'll get about thousand tons of spent uraniums/plutoniums (and other transuranium products).

This usually stored in a cooling ponds filled with water.

If you take this spent pellets. grind it to make powder? Put it in a bomb? Then you get a dirty bomb. Is not that hard to make this bomb.
