L.O.A. Social Club, which in January became exclusively accessible via private membership, announced to its members Aug. 13 that it would be closing immediately.

Mandy and Kelvin Slater of Slater Hospitality opened the 38,000-square-foot pool and cabana club at The Interlock in West Midtown in June 2022. It was initially open to the public.

Mandy Slater confirmed the closure to Atlanta Business Chronicle.

“We poured our heart and soul in that project dating back to 2018 when we began planning and design," Slater said. "At that time, we set out to give Atlanta something it had never seen before, and we accomplished that.

“It was no one thing that led to this decision, but a combination of circumstances and conditions over several years that led to us having to close that chapter. Overall, we’re incredibly proud of what our team created there, and we hope it goes to a good home for its evolution.”

Slater previously told the Chronicle the owner's reasoning behind turning to a private club model for L.O.A., an acronym for "Leave of Absence."

“Our team really, being so focused on hospitality, wanted to connect with people, and we did as well," Slater said in May. "We wanted to provide experiences that were more personalized and cater to the members that we have instead of what the whole city wanted to do."

Members under 35 paid $1,250 annually. It was $2,500 for members over 35 and $5,000 for couples. Corporate rates were handled on a case-by-case basis.

Slater Hospitality also owns Skyline Park and 9 Mile Station, the entertainment and dining spaces on the roof at Ponce City Market.
