The prime minister of Israel is a threat to world security. In his speech before Congress last month, Benjamin Netanyahu made clear that he views Israel as the vanguard in the war waged by the West against global radical Islam, or, as he phrased it, a clash between barbarism and civilization.
Netanyahu made it clear to Americans that he protects them, that he is fighting their war for them. It was plain from his remarks that America should thank him for his efforts on its behalf, rather than the other way around.
As far as he is concerned, the huge aid Israel receives from the United States serves an existential American interest, and the more the U.S. increases it, the better shall the American interest be served. And what's in America's interest, according to Netanyahu, is world war.
In fact, on that occasion, Netanyahu presented himself as the leader and course-setter of the free world. In an interview with TIME magazine last week, he emphasized that the October 7 massacre is his Pearl Harbor. His actions and the vision he presented in Congress make it clear that, like Franklin Roosevelt before him, his own Pearl Harbor charged him with the strategic and moral duty to start a world war.
The U.S. is just his proxy and is therefore required to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities. Each time Iran threatens to enter the fray with its proxy, Hezbollah, Netanyahu produces his own proxy. And Netanyahu feels certain that he recognizes, better than the Democratic administration, what is in America's interests and that he serves this interest better than President Joe Biden.
It could be claimed that Netanyahu is a bad strategist: He had Ismail Haniyeh assassinated in Tehran and Fuad Shukr in Dahiyeh, without taking into account the scope of the retaliation. But did he really not take it into account?

Whoever sees himself as leader of the West in its clash with the barbarians knows full well that the right assassination in the right place at the right time could start a world war that will last years and leave him in power until it is over. This world war is the baby he is nurturing. And his strategy is beginning to bear fruit. It is a fact that, by April, he orchestrated a situation where the U.S. was mobilized alongside its World War II allies, France and Britain, together with moderate Sunni states, into a coalition defending Israel. This is Netanyahu's dream come true: the world in an uproar, with Israel at the epicenter.
The results of Haniyeh's assassination are even more impressive, as far as he is concerned: Biden sent a force to the region that dwarfs the contingent sent in April; Netanyahu is setting the agenda. The world is breaking up around him. His actions are keeping Vladimir Putin too from his slumber. He is more relevant than ever on the global stage. Netanyahu prevents the end of the war in Gaza in order to ignite a world war. In his megalomaniacal hallucinations, this world war, the victory of civilization over the barbarians, shall be his legacy.
Israel has grown too small for the forces of destruction that emanate from him and aim to flood the world. In TIME magazine, he compared himself with George W. Bush after the 9/11 attacks. The diamond league. Netanyahu constantly likens himself to leaders of global empires and behaves accordingly. That's why he is euphoric. He believes his visions of Armageddon are coming true and that in the future, he will be mentioned in history books in the same breath as Churchill and Roosevelt: the victor over the barbarians.
Meanwhile, the people saving the citizens of Israel, Iran and the world from his barbarism are Putin (who, sensitive about his honor, claims a monopoly in igniting world wars these days) – and the new president of the "barbarians," Masoud Pezeshkian. The entire world has good reason now to root for Netanyahu's downfall. As long as he is in power, it is not only the hostages who are in danger. The whole world is in danger.
