#PAE exam can be taken by anyone registered with BEM as graduate for 3 years and had undergone at least one year of training with professional engineer, ie PE or PEPC in their company. Those who do not have mentor in their company would have to go through the ECD program via route C in IEM. This means both mentee and mentor have to be registered with IEM, meet regularly and prepare a log book record for the tenure of the mentorship which is normally 3 years. Check IEM website. I attach here a sample report for PAE training and experience to show how the contents should address the question (This is just a sample. The actual length of your report may be longer). These reports should act as guidance and not be copied out rightly. The most important, apart from being relevant in the training report is honesty. You should own what you write. So do not brag about something or a concept that you do not know about. You need to own the concepts, designs, experiences in order to respond positively when queried during interview. The role of the interviewer is to access that the applicant owns what he or she writes and they are not fabricated or copied without owning the concepts. For those who want to learn more in engineering, so that they can apply what they learn, start from the foundation and concepts and build up on those. Make sure that the concepts learnt are correct as there are a lot of materials source in the internet. Reliable sources are like TRANE, titus, price industries, uptime but sometimes, they require some basic knowledge to understand them. My portfolio features some links to basic and advanced engineering concepts. hvac https://lnkd.in/gTUJ_DYj fire https://lnkd.in/gBMy2SUU plumbing https://lnkd.in/gyqGBuEC

A summary of Berita Harian's story on West Coast Expressway The completion of the West Coast Highway (WCE), a 233-kilometer long highway from Banting, Selangor to Taiping, Perak, is expected to have a significant impact on Perak State's economic prosperity. The WCE aims to enhance transportation efficiency, facilitate cargo movement to the port, and stimulate regional growth. With all sections in Perak now fully operational, the highway provides a new transportation option for highway users, particularly during peak travel periods like Aidilfitri. The construction of WCE addresses the growing traffic volume and mobility demands in the region, providing alternative routes to support economic growth. By connecting to the existing highway network and fostering socio-economic development along the West Coast region, WCE is poised to contribute to the overall economic progress of the country. https://lnkd.in/gNKhSRXq

"From Small Contractor to Big Player: The Journey Ahead" In Malaysia, contractors must register with CIDB. The grades range from G1 to G7, reflecting their paid-up capital and the size of projects they can undertake. G7, the highest grade, represents the largest contractors, while G1 signifies the smallest. Undoubtedly, small contractors aspire to become big. Yet, they often underestimate the challenges that come with growth. Achieving G7 status may seem straightforward in terms of capital, but securing projects and managing them pose significant hurdles. Entering the realm of government tenders as a newly minted G7 contractor presents two possibilities: fierce competition leading to slim chances or, if successful, the daunting task of project management. Having worked with contractors of various grades, I've observed distinct advantages of lower-grade contractors over G7: 1) Lower-grade contractors often have a greater volume of projects available. While G7 contractors contend with fierce competition for limited opportunities, smaller contractors find ample work, albeit of a more manageable scale. 2) Government agencies often directly engage lower-grade contractors, bypassing JKR. This means projects may have lower quality standards, making them more accessible to smaller contractors. 3) With less stringent oversight compared to JKR, project monitoring is more flexible. There's room for negotiation, and contractual terms are not as rigid. 4) Clients understand the challenges faced by lower-grade contractors and are more lenient towards non-compliance issues. However, these advantages can easily turn into liabilities if exploited instead of leveraged for growth. Becoming a G7 contractor requires a fully staffed department, including quantity surveyors, engineers, QA/QC personnel, safety officers, and compliance experts. Once upgraded, G7 contractors are held to rigorous standards, with no room for leniency or shortcuts. Non-compliance can result in severe consequences, such as delayed payments or even project termination. The transition from a lower grade to G7 often poses leadership and operational challenges. Many new G7 contractors struggle to assemble competent teams and implement effective leadership, leading to inefficiencies and financial losses. While the journey to G7 is possible, it's advisable to progress gradually, mastering each grade along the way. Downgrading from G7 is not uncommon, as the reality often falls short of expectations. In conclusion, the path from a small contractor to a major player is riddled with challenges and complexities. But with careful planning, continuous learning, and a strategic approach, the goal of becoming a G7 contractor is within reach. Let's tread this path diligently, ensuring that every step taken leads us closer to our aspirations.

Opportunities. Mega construction project. T5 will be larger than the T1 & T3 combined. There is gonna be a 2.5km tunnel between T2 & T5. I have always maintained that with all our MRT, expressway and deep sewage tunnelling work, there are lots of opportunities for Singaporean companies to build, sustain and advance tunnel techniques, skill sets and know-how to world class levels. So when each tunnelling project is won first by European, then S.Korean and now Chinese companies.....IMHO, we have lost decades of learning & growth opportunities to build world-beating SG companies in this field. Imagine an SG entity with the ability to compete globally with the S.Korean, Chinese et al specialist companies. Have we missed (and continue to miss) a golden opportunity here? P.S. Changi Airport isn't the world's best airport last year. I am guessing Changi Airport is gonna pull rabbits out of hats to wrestle back the crown.

Most of my work experience has been with large companies. For example, Mudajaya Corporation Berhad, Peremba Construction Berhad, Sunway Construction Berhad, Cypark, Minconsult Sdn Bhd, MRCB Engineering Sdn Bhd, and TH Technologies Sdn Bhd. However, I have also worked with smaller companies. In smaller companies, you often have to do many things yourself and sometimes get overloaded. Nevertheless, if you want to learn how to start a business, you can learn from the bosses of these small companies through first-hand observation. When I worked for a company that was a contractor for TNB, I was a Project Manager handling more than 5 major PMU projects. Meanwhile, the engineer under me handled more than 20 smaller TNB projects. We were both overwhelmed. There were many sites to manage, paperwork that never seemed to end, and we still had to ensure the sites ran smoothly. One day, I went to see the boss and said, "Boss, we can't cope with all these projects. Can the company stop taking on new projects for now?" The boss replied, "Hamizi, you’ve misunderstood. When an opportunity comes, don't turn it down. This is a good problem. Grab it first, then think later." In large companies, we don't have this problem. We usually have enough staff, and everything is ready. I learned one thing from small companies: to become a successful businessman, you need to "grab the opportunity first, think later." If we wait for everything to be perfect before moving forward, we might miss many opportunities. And it would be unfortunate if, when we are finally ready, no opportunities come our way. "Never say never." Wallahualam.

WK & Partners
We at WK & Partners are excited to share an important update for the construction industry in Malaysia. Ministry of Housing and Local Government has introduced new guidelines to enhance the adoption of the Industrialised Building System (IBS) for private projects. Key highlights of the guidelines include: 💡 Minimum IBS Score Requirement: A minimum IBS score of 70 is now mandatory for building plan applications for private construction projects valued at RM50 million and above, with a Gross Floor Area (GFA) of 50,000 square meters and above. 💡 Role of CIDB: The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) will act as the External Technical Agency (ATL) within the OSC Committee, overseeing the entire implementation of IBS for private projects. 💡 Target for State and Local Authorities: By 2025, at least 50% of State Authorities and Local Authorities must mandate IBS implementation for private project building plan applications. These guidelines aim to: ✔ Boost productivity in the construction sector ✔ Enhance the competitiveness of local industry players ✔ Create more specialized job opportunities ✔ Reduce dependence on foreign labor At WK & Partners, we are committed to staying ahead of industry trends and ensuring our projects meet and exceed these new standards. We believe that embracing IBS will lead to more efficient, sustainable, and innovative construction practices in Malaysia. Let's build a better future together! #WKPartners #WKPartnersConsult #Sustainability #IndustrialBuilding #IndustrialisedBuildingSystem #IBS #WeShapeIndustrialStructures #PrecastStructure

The last 2 months has been an exciting experience, having received the opportunity to share knowledge in a series of in-person trainings in my home ground as well as various locations in Sarawak, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca and KL with Go Digital ASEAN by The Asia Foundation as well as with iCube. With the back to back travelling and meeting so many wonderful people both in urban and rural settings, I've come to realize a few things that truly inspired me as well as impart valuable (and sometimes humbling) lessons. 1. As someone with a background in tech, I truly admire the efforts of the Sarawak Government with the Sarawak Digital initiative by Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation. I had the privilege of visiting several of their digital and innovation hubs (Sibu, Bintulu and Sarikei) and libraries (Kuching and Sibu) which blew me away! Some had a very modest exterior but opened up into a beautiful, functional space that is inviting, conducive, and sufficiently equipped. In Sabah, we have broadband centres set up for our rural communities including the expansion of PEDi and Starlink. What I've learnt from my trips to Sarawak reinforces my belief that innovation and tech is possible with our existing resources. What is our minimum viable product (MVP)? And we have room to scale. 2. When curating training modules, it's easy to want to jam pack information and share as much knowledge as possible. I've had to remind myself to keep it simple always. Having Explainer as one of my top realised strengths based on my Strengths Profile assessment with Coach Hanaa Wong Abdullah, I realised this is where I have an upper hand. The ability to simplify complex ideas and make them more digestable by the masses, coupled with my Counterpoint strength which allows me to see alternative perspectives has helped me share my knowledge more effectively. This experience further enriches the strengths-based experience which I'll share in a separate post. 3. Learning can't be forced but creating an environment that helps people learn (and reminding myself that people learn at a different pace) is key. Understanding the different ways people learn and their ability to comprehend varies from person to person is essential and allows for a more diverse learning environment. Some people are loud, some are activity driven, some like reading, some like observing, some are shy and some aren't listeners. Having that framing in mind helped me think of different ways to connect with the participants and create rapport. Quite a useful skill to apply outside of the training space as well. One new discovery for me was actually the power of home. Despite the constant travels, being home for a few days in between even for a night, helps me feel more grounded and not feel like I'm away too long. And that made me feel more energized and productive. Have you felt this too? #techleader #trainer #digital #tech #multipotentialite
