Star Wars Jedi Survivor PS4, Xbox One version is finally happening

Over a year after the game’s current-gen launch
Respawn Entertainment

It’s been a long old while, but Respawn is finally gearing up to release Star Wars Jedi Survivor on PS4 and Xbox One, over a year after the Star Wars game launched. Jedi Survivr’s PS4 and Xbox One editions release on Sep. 17, 2024, and you’ll get a bit of a discount as well.

The last-gen version costs $49.99, instead of the usual $69.99 it goes for on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Jedi Survivor picks up in the aftermath of Jedi Fallen Order. Cal Kestis and his friends are scattered across the galaxy, and the Empire’s absolute victory seems certain. Of course it does. This is pre-A New Hope, so there’s seemingly little room for surprises. Except Respawn does surprise with a few High Republic twists and an unexpected approach to what Survivor’s characters want and how far they’re willing to go to get it.

EA also said it’s pushing an update for Jedi Survivor on PC that includes “enhancements to the game’s technical performance, controls and more, plus a variety of quality-of-life improvements,” though the publisher offered no specifics about what the update actually affects. There’s plenty to fix. Jedi Survivor suffers from a slew of performance issues on PC, and it’s a fairly rare instance of a major release having no Steam Deck support at all.

It does work on Valve’s handheld, as well as the Asus Rog Ally, but not particularly well.

Vampire Survivors PS5, PS4 release date announced

After two long years, PlayStation players can finally get in on the action

Poncle

Vampire Survivors is one of the biggest indie games of the past few years, with players on just about every platform diving into it. One platform in particular, though, has been missing since the game launched, and that’s about to change, as PS4 and PS5 players will soon be able to dive in.

Developer Luca Galante – better known as poncle – has announced on Twitter that Vampire Survivors will be released on PS4 and PS5 on August 29, 2024. It comes after the release of the game on PC, mobile, and Xbox platforms in late 2022, which was followed by the Nintendo Switch release in August 2023

No pricing has been announced for the PlayStation release of the game, but it’s expected to be similarly priced to the Steam, Switch, and Xbox versions, all of which are priced at $4.99. All DLC available on other platforms will also be available on PlayStation at launch.

While preorders aren’t available, PlayStation players can wishlist the game, and the official PlayStation Store page does actually reveal the exact time Vampire Survivors will be released — 6:00am PT on August 29, 2024. This should be the same everywhere around the world, so here’s when Vampire Survivors will unlock on PlayStation in your time zone:

  • PT: 6:00am
  • ET: 9:00am
  • BST: 10:00am
  • BST: 2:00pm
  • CEST: 3:00pm
  • IST: 6:30pm
  • JST: 10:00pm
  • AEST: 11:00pm
  • NZST: 1:00am (August 30, 2024)

Vampire Survivors shot to massive success in early 2022, when the game was still in Early Access on Steam, thanks in part to coverage from streamers on Twitch and YouTube. It’s also just a fantastic game, but it’s hard to put into words why — not even Vampire Survivors’ creator knows why it’s so good

The game went on to win a number of awards, including a BAFTA, something that the senior marketing manager for the game said was “entirely unexpected” in an interview with GLHF last year.

It also spawned quite a few imitators, including Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, which brilliantly fuses the Deep Rock Galactic IP with auto-shooter gameplay. Even some former Angry Birds devs have started making a Vampire Survivors-inspired card gamecalled Inferni, which also throws in a little bit of Slay the Spire and Tetris 99 and looks incredible.

Former PlayStation posterboy is coming to Xbox Game Pass with classic trilogy

A certain marsupial is coming to Game Pass in August 2024

By Marco Wutz

Microsoft

Microsoft has announced the first wave of additions to Xbox Game Pass in August 2024 – and among them is a trilogy of classic games featuring a character that’s counted among the most beloved PlayStation mascots: Originally created by Naughty Dog and exclusively available for PlayStation consoles, the Crash Bandicoot games are making their way onto Microsoft’s big subscription service.

The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which contains Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped will be available for subscribers on PC, console, and cloud starting on August 8, 2024.

Though originally made for Sony’s console, Crash Bandicoot as a franchise is actually owned by Activision and thus came into Microsoft’s possession last year – how the tables have turned.

That said, the August 2024 additions to Xbox Game Pass aren’t exactly numerous. Only two other games are coming to the service in the first half of the month aside from the trilogy.

New on Xbox Game Pass in August 2024

  • Creatures of Ava (Cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S) – August 7
  • Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (Cloud, Console, and PC) – August 8
  • Mafia: Definitive Edition (Cloud, Console, and PC) – August 13

Leaving Xbox Game Pass in August 2024

  • Airborne Kingdoms (Cloud, Console, and PC) – August 15
  • Offworld Trading Company (PC) – August 15
  • Shadow Warrior 3 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – August 15
  • The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (Cloud, Console, and PC) – August 15

Strategy game fans should make sure to play some Offworld Trading Company before it leaves the survives – it’s an excellent board game-inspired title about economic domination and making Mars a livable home for humankind.

Xbox is reportedly planning an Avowed delay for ‘breathing room’

Though the game is in “good shape”

By Josh Broadwell

Obsidian Entertainment

Xbox is planning to delay Avowed into 2025, a new report from The Verge says, to give the RPG a chance of attracting attention after a busy season. The paywalled report, which Wario64 summarized, says Obsidian hasn’t run into any issues with developing Avowed, and the delay is just to keep it from getting overshadowed in the holiday season.

The delay is just another hurdle on Avowed’s troubled development path as Obsidian struggled to define its identity as more than just a Skyrim clone. That included a period of time where the team tried making Avowed a multiplayer game, before deciding to stick to what they knew best – deep, single-player experiences.

The potential delay likely explains why Avowed is missing from Xbox’s Gamescom 2024 plans.

The Verge’s sources say the decision is “more a matter of wanting to give the game breathing room outside of a very busy period for Xbox Game Pass.”

Xbox’s first-party lineup for Game Pass is a little thin for the rest of the year, with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 being the only known marquee games for now. Stalker 2 is planned for launch on the subscription service in November 2024 as well.

When Avowed does launch, game director Carrie Patel told GLHF it’ll bring with it deep side quests, influential choices, and even some meaningful expansions to the Pillars of Eternity universe.

Star Wars Outlaws roadmap: DLC to feature Lando and Hondo

‘Insolence! We are pirates! We don’t even know what that means.’

By Marco Wutz

Ubisoft

Ubisoft has revealed the post-launch roadmap for Star Wars Outlaws, including details on the story expansions contained within the game’s Season Pass. Owners of the Season Pass will have access to an exclusive mission featuring Jabba the Hutt as well as a skin pack for main character Kay Vess and her companion Nix right from the start.

Developer Massive has two Story Packs and two Cosmetic Bundles in the works for the six months after launch. Season Pass owners will get access to all of this content without any further costs, though the two Story Packs will be available for purchase separately as well.

Let’s take a look at the detailed Star Wars Outlaws roadmap below.

Star Wars Outlaws roadmap: Launch Day

On release day, the Jabba’s Gambit mission will be available in the game exclusively for those who own the Season Pass. Ubisoft emphasized that players can meet Jabba the Hutt without owning the Season Pass, as the notorious crime lord has a role to play in the game’s story. It’s just one specific mission that’s locked behind the extra paywall.

In addition to Jabba’s Gambit, Season Pass owners will get access to the Kessel Runner skin package, which contains outfits for Kay Vess and Nix. As you may be able to tell from the pack’s name, the skins therein are inspired by Han Solo and Chewbacca and allow you to cosplay as the famous smuggler duo.

Star Wars Outlaws roadmap: Story Pack 1 – Wild Card

  • Planned for Fall 2024

“Kay is hired to infiltrate a high-stakes Sabacc tournament, but as she crosses paths with the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, she soon learns that another game is being played,” the official description of the first Story Pack says.

Star Wars Outlaws roadmap: Cosmetic Bundles

  • Planned for Fall 2024

Two Cosmetic Bundles will be released alongside Story Pack 1 – Wild Card: The Hunter’s Legacy and Cartel Ronin packs will contain skins for Kay Vess, Nix, Kay’s speeder bike, and Kay’s starship, the Trailblazer. By the looks of things, Hunter’s Legacy will be inspired by Mandalorian aesthetics, while the Cartel Ronin pack may take inspiration from the visuals of Kijimi, one of the worlds Kay visits.

Star Wars Outlaws roadmap: Story Pack 2 – A Pirate’s Fortune

  • Planned for Spring 2025

“The Trailblazer’s reputation precedes Kay as she runs into veteran pirate Hondo Ohnaka, who is looking to settle old scores with a ruthless gang of pirates,” the official description of this Story Pack teases.

In case you’re confused about who Hondo is: The Weequay pirate was originally introduced during Star Wars: The Clone Wars as an antagonist who’d show up from time to time and became a bit of a fan favorite due to his humorous wit, which led to him working with the good guys more and more. He was brought back for Star Wars: Rebels as well, where he became something of a mentor for main character Ezra Bridger.
