The most recent and craziest example of this is the A55/M55/M55s/F55/C55. You'd think that with all the effort they waste on these spin-offs that are only made available to a few countries, they'd produce at least ONE mid-ranger with the size of the very popular S24 for the many who want hand/pocket friendly mobile devices (but can't afford the expensive S phone price). But no. Many of Samsung's decisions are apparently not based on making more money, but rather on the moods of idiots, depending on what side they woke up that day.

Anonymous, 12 hours agoImagine having the same camera resolution and a smaller bat... more- Megapixels alone don't determine photo quality. Rather it's a combination of sensor size/type, lens, processor, and software tuning. Besides, most phones shoot at 12MP by default, because higher resolutions result in noisier images, especially in low light.

          - It's a smaller phone than the A15. So of course the battery capacity had to be smaller. Where's your logic, bro?

I spend most of my time in Asia, and here the bigger the phone the better. Especially true for the girls spending hours on social medias. Why do you think all oppo, realme, vivo...etc have only phones with 6.7" minimum ? Phone companies give people what they want. Simple as that !

The point is that Samsung should provide a compact mid-range option that many people want. They stand to make a lot of money if they do.

Let me see if I understand this insanity correctly:

A compact mid-range phone? Not worth it for Samsung to produce, because the tons of people who want it aren’t as much as the amount of rich people who want the small S24, or as much as others who want bigger phones.

On the other hand, taking a device like the A55, making one tiny change and calling it M55, then making an even smaller change and calling it F55, then just creating another copy and calling it C55, then creating another clone and calling it M55s, then making all these phony spin-offs available in just a few places to a tiny segment of the world’s consumers? Definitely worth Samsung’s time and effort, despite making no money.

This is what passes for logic or business strategy today?

Anonymous, 08 Aug 2024Strange? Maybe. But Samsung don't care. Large phones s... moreSo according to you Samsung should scrap the S24 and S24 Plus because the S24 Ultra “sells better”. And maybe every phone maker should only sell one top model that “sells better” than the rest. That’s ridiculous. By definition, one models will “sell better” than another. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a significant amount of people that want the number two, three, or four model. It’s called providing choice and options.

In any event, it’s a myth that Samsung only produces phones what customers want, and if they don’t make something if means no one wants it. In reality, it’s the other way around, consumers are forced to choose from whatever is available, so it LOOKS like that’s what they want, but people can only buy what exists. When it comes to phones, demand does NOT drive the supply, but rather it's the other way around. If Samsung actually made what people wanted, they wouldn't stop the Note series, force Exynos on flagships in many countries, remove the headphone jack and SD slot, and they'd trim down phone bodies to eliminate dead space and their ugly bezels which serve no purpose. But Samsung makes what Samsung wants, not what customers want. We are just forced to choose from whatever is available, so now the "stats" say "He bought that phone, he must want it!" but that's silly. A person can't get what he wants if it doesn't exist.
A Note fan buying another phone doesn't really want it, and a European Snapdragon fan buying an Exynos phone doesn't either really want it. They're forced to take what exists. "Companies make what customers want" is a myth.

Anonymous, 07 Aug 2024You're right about the S24's size. And millions o... moreI kind of feel the same way with Xiaomi. Their only compact option is the Xiaomi 14 with a 6.36 inch display, which costs about $720. It doesn't sell very well in global markets because most Xiaomi users aren't accustomed to, or aren't willing to purchase their higher-grade devices.

Unlike Samsung, all of Xiaomi's best-sellers are their budget/mid-range devices like the Redmi Note 13 series and the Redmi 13C, but their displays are all sized 6.67 inches and over, no less than that.

It just seems silly to think that big phones sell better than compact phones, when there's basically no other option to choose from besides just 'big'.

On another note, Xiaomi also makes a bunch of duplicate devices under their Poco sub-brand. Some of them like Poco C65, Poco M6 4G, and Poco Pad are exact 1:1 clones of the Redmi 13C, Redmi 13, and Redmi Pad Pro respectively. While others like the Poco M6 Pro 4G and Poco X6 are downgraded versions of the Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G and Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G. Several others, like the Poco X6 Pro and Poco F6 are rebranded versions of the Redmi K70E and Redmi Turbo 3, which are exclusive to China.

Why couldn't they just release everything under the Redmi/Xiaomi brand if the Poco sub-brand doesn't mean much these days?

I’ve noticed something interesting after reading a bunch of these comments for and against compact (i.e. S24 sized) mid-range phones. Those who want a small option are not saying there shouldn't be big ones, they’re just requesting an additional choice to accommodate their group. On the other hand, those who don’t want small phones, project their own preferences onto EVERYONE else, as if EVERYBODY prefers gigantic phones exactly as they do. So if they don’t want phones that are a little smaller and lighter, it must be that NOBODY else does either. Even though there clearly is a certain segment of consumers that do. And it’s bigger than the tiny clientele that the M55, M55s, F55, and C55 is made available to. Yet Samsung has no problem creating a bunch of fake models with tiny modifications for just a few people in one or two countries.

So those who want smaller options are fine with others getting their preferences too, but the big phone lovers want to quash the preferences of others. Have anyone else noticed this too? It’s quite strange.

Having a phone that does not fatigue their hand and that fits into their pocket is much more important than "looking expensive". Especially in light of the fact that many people use cases anyway, so you can't see most the actual phone's look anyway.

That makes no sense. You can make the same phone for the whole world, you don't need five clones of the A55 (as an example) for "different markets". In fact, most countries don't even have access to these silly spin-off versions, so for most of the world (or "different markets" as you say) just one version is enough, apparently. Whether it's an S phone, or an A phone (in many places where none of the M/F nonesense is available).

Are you really saying that just three and a half countries out of the whole world needs the same phone with five different names (A55/M55/F55/C55/M55s) while the rest of the world is fine with just the A55? Think a little!

And millions of customers who can't afford its expensive price would gladly buy a phone with the same dimensions but with a mid-range chip so that its price would be affordable. Just as many rich people want the compact S24, so do many budget customers want something similar that they can afford. But even though Samsung stands to make a lot of money if they produced such a phone, their decisions aren't based on that. Instead, they're busy creating identical spin-off phones for about five and a half customers. These Samsung decision makers are nuts. Why else would they create a bunch of silly clones like the A55, M55, F55, C55, M55s, or the A14, M14, F14, etc. etc. They're definitely not making much money on these duplicate devices.

Only Motorola seems decent enough, but camera app has max-brightness even in the dark... I don't know, maybe it's time to get a Nokia 2780 Flip (it has Wi-Fi :O).

Can't really compare it to the s23 but most reviews had said a small bump in performance/ battery life over the 23
