16-year-old gang-raped, killed by her cousins in MP; grandmother who intervened also raped
A 16-year-old girl died after being gang-raped and beaten by her two cousins in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur. One of the accused raped the victim's grandmother when she tried to intervene.

A 16-year-old girl died after being gang-raped and brutally beaten by her two cousins in the Ranjhi area of Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district. The victim’s grandmother, who came to the girl’s aid, was also raped by one of the accused, police said.
The victim lived with her father in Mumbai and had come to her uncle’s house in Jabalpur on August 11. Her ordeal began on August 13, when two of her cousins assaulted her. She was repeatedly raped and beaten up over the next several days, before being admitted to a private hospital on August 19. She died the next day, and was buried in Jabalpur.
On Tuesday, the victim’s father told the police that his daughter was gangraped and beaten by her two cousins and that this was disclosed to him by his mother, who was also raped by the accused, ASP Jabalpur Pradeep Kumar said.
The police on Tuesday (August 23) exhumed the victim’s body. The grandmother underwent a medical test which confirmed rape, police said.
A case of rape has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the victim’s cousins. One accused has been arrested while the other is still at large.
An investigation is underway. Police are in the process of questioning the staff at the private hospital where the victim was admitted.
