Operating and Net profit is minus compared to Q1 2023 due to so much spending for hiring and expansion.

And they hired 61 people just last quarter ( compared to 17, 12 , 25, 46 in the previous quarters respectively). Up to 570 employees now. So it seems that Q1 is usually their largest hiring anyway which is the typical hiring season probably but this is the highest hiring since 2022

And yet they keep talking about holoearth despite it being a profit-less moneysink, while the homos technically do make a profit (taking into account generous amortization of capital costs like the studio).
This really shows that Cover has no confidence in the growth prospects of the homos.

Right now it's not a big concern since Cover still makes a good amount of profit, but if that's ever at risk of going negative, they're probably the first thing Cover's going to be looking at for cutting costs. Not holoearth since that project seems to be even more of a sacred cow than the homos.

I think the thing that frustrates me about HoloEarth is I got at first they wanted to have like a social media platform with a built in virtual shop for concerts. That makes sense since they could essentially have a controlled environment under their own guidelines as they build their media platform to inevitably not depend on Youtube.

And then it became a survival game. And they lost me.

I honestly wonder how many SP games with more focus off any of the holomems woulda been. You could make an Amelia Watson investigation game, a beat em up with the fantasy gen, anything with easier mechanics to implement and more importantly avoiding the high cost of whatever this game is trying to be. It very easily looks like it escaped scope creep at some point. Just feels like a sinking hole to me.

What do nearly all Holos play? Stuff like Minecraft and Ark.
Well, now Cover can say "Hey, we have something like that!" So all the Holos could play that instead.
However, they made one fatal slip - the game is shit, and nobody wants to look at it, let alone play it.
It's like they saw the "We have ____ at home" meme and didn't realize it wasn't advice.

The biggest problem is talent, the spending would have to be in the stratosphere in order to have competent programmers help Cover pull it off. When Cover can't even outdo Fortnite for concerts at this time, it's fucking grim as a sign for the entire project.
