Ash Ketchum was most of the way through his Johto Pokemon Journey when he tried out a magic potion intended to let him understand Pokemon better.
It certainly did that, though it also had some unintended effects that indicate he's got a very strange family history that even his mother isn't really able to elaborate on.
Now in a new body as a Pokemon that nobody can quite recognize, mostly because Mythical Pokemon aren't very well studied, Ash's first step is to work out how to carry things again. His second step is to continue his quest to be a Pokemon Master!
Everyone else seems to think there should be more steps than that.
