The Houston Chronicle Media Group said July 21 that it will relocate employees at its downtown Houston facility to a redeveloped campus in southwest Houston.
The company, which is owned by the Hearst Corp., will soon solicit bid requests for architectural and engineering services for the new campus and begin “exploring alternatives for its downtown facility,” according to a statement.
Plans including redeveloping a 21-acre site on the southeast intersection of the 610 Loop and the Southwest Freeway. The 440,000-square-foot complex originally was the Houston Post facility and currently houses the Houston Chronicle’s press operations, distribution, circulation and local sales team.

According to the Chronicle, more than 500 employees work at the 4747 Southwest Freeway building, and 473 employees work at the company’s 10-story downtown building at 801 Texas.
Some of the Chronicle’s newsroom will stay downtown to continue covering business and government, Paul Barbetta, executive vice president and COO, said in the company’s statement.
The transition, including renovations of the Southwest Freeway space, is expected to take 18 months, according to the Chronicle.
