Specification sheets should not just mention the charging speed, but also the charging speed while the screen is on. This is important to know.
On the keynote of the S6 in 2015, the presenter Justin Denison said that he needs fast charging to be able to charge faster at the airport lounge. Unfortunately, the S6 (and several successors thereof) slow down charging to 6 watts while the screen is on, so charging is only fast in stand-by mode or while powered off.
In other words, Justin Denison can't read his emails while charging at the airport.
It took Samsung years to realize that slowing down charging while the screen is on is not a good idea. The more recent Samsungs thankfully maintain the full charging speed while the screen is on. If Samsung's intention was to prevent overheating, how come it even slows down charging when turning on the screen when the battery is cold? Doesn't make sense. This was one of the greatest annoyances back then.
Also, thankfully new smartphones are thicker to house a larger battery. This thin design trend from the mid-2010s was a very bad idea. Smartphone vendors know better now.
Also, flash is disabled under 15% of battery charge because the battery is too weak to power the flash. But wouldn't it make more sense if it only limited the brightness of the flash rather than completely disabling it?
If the battery has enough power for full-brightness flashlight at 16% charge, it should still have enough power for slightly less brightness at 15%.

Remember the short-term thinking people who said "120fps video recording is unnecessary because screens only have 60 Hz"?
Now that 120 Hz screens are arriving even at entry-level smartphones, those 720p120fps videos recorded on the S6 can be enjoyed as real-time.
Too bad new Samsung phones do not encode slow-motion videos in real-time anymore. Samsung introduced real-time encoding on the S6 (file has same frame rate as was actually recorded), but later changed back to the inferior method of slowing down the video file, which is both bad for video editing and does not allow playback in real-time with sound.
While the S6 had many disappointing feature removals, at least real-time encoding of 120fps videos + audio track was a welcome improvement.

Anonymous, 17 Jun 2024Is this phone worth $7 in 2024? It's got a high res screen for VR If you are taking it as a collection, then yes, but if you are gonna use it for main device, well i suggest you to get Samsung Galaxy S9.

I still technically have this, it's just in a phone coma. I dropped it once and the screen refused to display, and the noti light was just flashing blue. 4 years later and I raged with it once and the back glass fell clean off.. maybe I could try disconnecting the battery and try getting it to work..

I bought it in May 2015. I still use it every single day! Everything is still original, including the battery. This phone fits in my pocket so easily. And operating it with one hand is super easy.
But now it is time for me to move to a new phone. I am thinking of getting S24. I can't find any other decently small power houses. The new design of small Samsung phones is just bad.

This phone is by far de most powerful portable flagship smartphone I've used so far...... Indeed the battery is not dat cool... Buh I gat a power bank an so far m satisfied with this phone... It gives me everything I want in a phone...

Yeah same bc mines haves the screen problems and it turns on and it takes too long to charge even tho I unplugged the charging port, everything stops 🛑

The essentials that Samsung meant was a phone first-and-foremost, with everything else being complimentary. And in 2015 microSD and removal batteries were seen as just that - complimentary and not a critical feature of a good phone. That announcement you refer to was basically Samsung resetting its strategy - the reason why S6 was referred to as Project Zero in 2015.z
And to everyone still asking about where Oreo is, go do your homework and stop asking the same question.

Well, MicroSD-expandable memory and a user-replaceable battery are essential. Did the S6 get those?

I had a battery drain issue after 3 years of using and regretted sending my phone to a uncertified repair shop. He messed it up even further that my phone turns off even at 50% battery. I loved my S6.

But for my experience from s8 going down to s7, s6, s4 those phone experience heating sometimes maybe it's the relationship between operating system and apps to misbehave... My s6 only heat when I'm using it, and my s7 edge was just heating always... One more thing you can try changing the whole charging pannell for your s6 it might the one causing heating

Among those app there's some apps causing heating

Somehow i got an update today , it was 98.8Mbs and it was done fast. havent noticed any changes yet but it looks like phone is kinda more stable in battery usage.
yes its 2022 and im still using this phone. i had its original battery until a month ago and it was never changed or opened before this. that battery did still have 62% of its life but it was about time to change it otherwise it wasnt going to last due to overheat issues here and there.
funny thing after battery change the overheat issue seems to have become less and less even while gaming which is interesting considering how the phone reacted to a battery change

Your current phone is 7 years old and a second hand s21 can go pretty low. You might even want to look at an a21s for $280 new. However if you want to spend the money definitely go for the iPhone pro Max.
