The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (Kaeri) is moving ahead with plans to build a demonstration 70 megawatt thermal light-water small modular reactor (SMR) with multiple applications, including as a power source for large merchant ships, icebreakers and submarines. Energy Intelligence understands the effort has been under way for roughly three years, although details of the project in Gyeongju province were only recently made public.
India commits funds to SMR development; European Commission opens state aid investigation into Belgian reactor lifetime extension; White House nominates new NRC member.
