It's a Thing

This Life-Size Lego Furniture Is Actually Kinda Chic

Add to that: modular, affordable, and colorful!

In the land of childish things that have been blown up to adult size, rarely do you stumble across something that is remotely good enough to live in your own home (we’re looking at you, life-size teddy bear!). But there is one exception to the rule we discovered recently: adult-size lego furniture. Yes, you read that right. These legos can be crafted into totally acceptable and great-looking furniture for a grown-up home. The company is Everblock, and the product works exactly like the Lego’s you built amateur castles with as a kid– individual blocks with teeth (they call theirs "lugs") on the top that lock into the bottom of another piece. Except you wouldn’t build a castle here, you’d build a stool or table legs or a bookshelf. (Note: Everblock's designs are patented and not affiliated with Lego)

The inspo: primary color-blocked furniture from the Memphis movement . . . Karl approves!

Each block is sold individually, so every furniture piece is technically custom. But it’s not priced like typical custom furniture: The blocks run $3–$7 depending on the size, with “finishing caps,” or the solid pieces that turn the teeth into a flat surface, for $4. There are also options for buying in bulk that will save you a buck on a big project like a dividing wall. And if your designing skills are a little rusty (no judgment!), there is a user-friendly virtual 3-D builder to help you along the way. There is also a stock of pre-designed furniture where you only have to choose a color scheme. Easy! The key to adult lego furniture is to use it sparingly . . . like, no more than one piece per room lest you want your home to look like an FAO Schwarz. Get inspired by some of our favorite Everblock projects, design one for yourself, and invite a bunch of friends over to help you build—just like old times.
