Zagreb’s Clinical Hospital Centre, Croatia’s Financial Services Supervision Agency, the Badel 1862 beverage factory and chemical company Labud d.o.o. are just some of the victims of the cyber attacks that have shaken Croatia in the last few days.
Marko Rakar, a Croatian expert on cyber security, told BIRN that the high-profile cases had alarmed the public. The ransomware attack on the hospital on June 27 particularly disturbed the public because all its IT systems were disabled.
“There have been several attacks in a few days. Just before that there was a coordinated attack on financial institutions. Currently it seems there are a lot more of them than usual – but I wouldn't say that we are particularly more exposed, I think the public is [just] more sensitized,” Rakar said.
