A secret Israeli company known as 'Team Jorge' has been discovered changing election results all over the world. The outfit, said to be run by former Israeli special forces operative Tal Hanan (known by pseudonym 'Jorge), wad infiltrated by a team of journalists from 30 new outlets, including Le Monde and Der Spiegel. They discovered a elaborate network of disinformation, ranging from fake social media accounts to hacking the accounts of prominent politicians and their aides.
One technique employed by Team Jorge is to plant stories in the media using an extensive and sophisticated social media manipulation strategy. Fake stories are amplified with a network of fake influencers, said to number over 30,000 each with plausible online presences, even down to having amazon accounts with credit card data attached, with avatars stolen from other social media accounts. A second, more sinister technique involves hacking telegram, where messages can be sent from a target's account to sow discourse in a political campaign. Other, more analogue techniques were also revealed, such as having sex toys delivered to a politician's house to make his wife suspicious.
Jorge was filmed by the team of journalists boasting that he had changed the results of 27 presidental campaigns around the world, and had engaged in two 'major projects' in the United States. The timeframe for these projects is unclear, however leaked emails shows the company attempting, and failing, to pitch low-cost projects to the notorious Cambridge Analytica as recently as 2017, a far cry from the presidental, multi-million dollar projects of 2020s.
