Handgun 104: Advanced Handgun Skills (8 Hours)

Overview

Welcome to Handgun 104: Advanced Handgun Skills, the fourth step in our foundational handgun series. Whether you intend to become a highly capable recreational shooter, participate in competitive shooting, or potentially utilize a pistol for defensive purposes, mastering the fundamentals is a must. This intensive one-day course will focus on building speed and accuracy, along with refining pistol manipulation techniques, movement, and kneeling positions. It is the perfect course to enhance your competence and confidence before pursuing your chosen path with a pistol.

Experience Requirements

We require the successful completion of Handgun 103 or equivalent before attending this course. The student MUST know and be able to demonstrate how to safely load, fire, and unload a handgun as well as have demonstrated competency in working from a holster and performing reloads. Open to all. Background checks are required, unless the student has a permit to carry from his/her state of residency or is a sworn law enforcement officer, corrections officer, private licensed security, or US Military personnel. Documented completion of a basic handgun safety course is required.

Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Improve draw stroke consistency and efficiency.
• Apply and present the pistol from ready positions.
• Engage targets of various sizes at different distances with multiple shots.
• Use different techniques for engaging multiple targets.
• Refine movement techniques, including shooting on the move.
• Shoot from various kneeling positions.
• Enhance one-handed techniques for both dominant and support hand.
• Build and refine all pistol fundamentals, manipulations, and techniques.

Equipment List

• Quality functional semi-automatic pistol – Full size and compact pistols only (semi-auto center fire pistols only - revolvers or .22 caliber pistols are not allowed). No micro pistols or pocket pistols to include: P238, P938, P365, M&P Shield, Glock 43, etc.
• 3 magazines minimum
• Optional, loading devices
• Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster
• Magazine pouch(es)
• Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide
• Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
• Clothing suitable for training in any weather, pants must have belt loops
• Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
   

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection at the Epping, NH, New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Colorado Springs, CO locations.

Ammo

• Estimated round count: 500 rounds pistol
• For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required - call for clarification
• Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only
• No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time
• Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping, New Smyrna Beach, and Colorado Springs facilities only
