I went here years ago and still do the workouts, it does a great job to manage my injury. Just general workout, stretching, and form instructions were very helpful as well keeping my body working smoothly since. Staff were nice and positive and energetic. Definitely ask for a weekly workout plan if they don't tell you one, and how u should fit ur therapy exercises with that. I dont know why they don't teach some of this body mechanics stuff at school, I would have loved it

I spent 16 days in this place and can only give points to the therapeutic service they provided. OT/PT care is not at all a representation of inpatient care. The nursing staff had its good and bad as with any institution and I realized it's not 100 percent their fault for neglecting patients calls for help because staffing is poor and lacking! Grateful I didn't suffer a severe emergency when I pressed the nurse station assistance button. CNA's are a roll of the dice! You hope to get lucky with the diamond in the ruff! I feel terrible that this place left such a sour taste in my mouth, because management tried to be as professional as they could be, given what they were left to work with.
I had more numbers of bad experiences than days in this rehabilitation hospital, and I won't begin to chronicle it!
Do your homework when considering this place. I hope that the seriousness of MY well documented complaints will lead to some stiff changes in what they pride themselves to be; and they can "walk the talk".Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Claudia D.Chicago, IL352562111Jun 9, 2018
Good physical therapy. Poor atmosphere and physical plant.
No offensive odors are apparent.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ruben O.Chicago, IL02217Jan 29, 2016

The therapist are awesome. But the CNA staff is pure lazy. Lacking on catheterizing patients on time for their routine. Lacking on proper bathing patient and hygiene. Tasheema (cna) customers service is horrible, no respect for her job or her patients. Crew doesn't respect dietary orders and religious views. If the therapist weren't so great the rehab would be complete a waste. The cna staff ignores the nurse call buttons. Which we've recorded as well. They also become very frustrated when it's time to log roll a patient every 2 hours. It's sad people working in this field have no care for people but are clearly there for a check.

This place is ridiculous. I understand waiting about an hour after my appointment time but 3+hrs. I mean, come on. This is just stupid. I'm totally ok with waiting but this is excessive. The counter persons response was that there are a lot of new appointments before us. Obviously they can't handle their work load here because three hours is not acceptable.

The therapist, and doctors have been all great, but the 2nd floor nurses and CNA's are terrible! We are on our end full day here and every single nurse or CNA have an attitude, if you ask them anything they roll the eyes, none of them provide their names, they all seem bothered to do there job. One of them was asked to be gentle and she ignored and made the patient hit the arm and leg on the wheel chair. Another was asked to clean the patient and her answer was "you can do it". Is like they forget that thanks to patients they have a job, they are there to serve them. Honestly the nurses/CNA's need some training in how to interact with patients and what there job is because they seem to think gossiping in the nurse station is it and if bothered they get upset! AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU CAN!!!

I had a really bad experience at Schwab rehab center in April 2011. I was transferred from the University of Chicago, because I had been hospitalized for about seven weeks and during that seven weeks I didn't walk. I had gallstones and my gallbladder and needed it removed, so they wouldn't let me walk or eat or drink water for about six weeks. So, lying around for seven weeks I couldn't walk and I had to go to rehab.
I arrived at Schwab by ambulance and they took me to my room. The rooms are for two patients and pretty decent is hospital rooms go, although the new sensor for Karen discovery at the University Chicago is amazing. Anyway, once I arrived I was evaluated by social workers, psychologists, medical doctors, etc. I was still very sick and very cold, so I kept my winter coat on the whole time. I needed to start walking again and of course, they did some occupational therapy, as well.
Because I had gone to the University of Chicago from home I had medication in my purse when admitted and some of the medication was a controlled substance, but the University of Chicago didn't have a problem with that. I am an adult! I would never take that medication while hospitalized. So, when I arrived at Schwab the same medication was in my purse. One day when we were moving my stuff one of the pill bottles fell onto the floor. There was a CNA with me at the time and she panicked and ran and get the doctor. Well, he thought that I was trying to self medicate and took my medication and put it in the safe. after that time we hit a poor report to say the least and they discharged me on Easter Sunday morning. They sent me home in an ambulance, because I still couldn't walk and blackballed me from going to another nursing facility or rehab, until I changed insurances. What jerks! I was very sick and had to go to my mothers to be cared for.
Now I'm well, I've lost weight, I look good and I even have highlights in my hair. Lol My girlfriend is there now after a total knee replacement and I'm going to visit her today. I sincerely hope I see you anyone that remembers me from my stay there, because I don't think I'll remember anyone after being traumatized . If it was a weekday I would talk with somebody about the nonsense that they did, but it's a Sunday. So, I guess you can say I had a horrible experience with Schwab rehab. However, I will say that the therapists were good, but that's it. I will never, ever go back to Schwab.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jennifer S.Chicago, IL1017Nov 19, 2016
Please, I urge you do not use them unless it is outpatient. The therapists are great, amazing experience. However, the nurses are the worst nurses that I've encountered this far. They are rude, ignorant and they move slower than you can imagine. Every time I would come to see my father all of the parents were just crowded around the nurses stations while the nurses say there gossiping and caring for the patients. To add insult to injury they act as if we are lucky to have the privilege of being at this institution. Let me tell you, the privilege was when we left Schwab. I called a nurse five times to change my fathers depends and it took them 30 minutes to respond. I left the room so they could change him, came back 30 minutes later and he was still sitting in his depend. Instead of leaving him in his room to change him they had the time to roll him out and leave him in the hallway in front of the nurses station again. There is no reason for anyone to have a job at this institution, they are not compassionate and it seems as if they were not given the job description before they were hired. I didn't ask them to do anything that was out of their job description. I cannot express enough how this is a place I would never step foot in or recommend.

I stayed here and they were very accommodating - intense rehab therapy which is what I needed. Learned to walk again and helped me with my cognitive skills. Katie, Miss Bernice, Fran, etc., were supportive. There were a few hiccups but for the most part my overall stay here was okay. I also appreciated the Speech Therapist Katie Langley - she was exceptional.
