A blogger who wrote about an antiques racket faces bankruptcy after being tried in secret proceedings in the High Court over his articles.

Elliot Lee wrote three articles in January last year about a furniture restorer, Dennis Buggins, who fabricated antiques offered for sale at up to £525,000 each. The scam had been revealed by The Sunday Times more than a decade ago.

Secret proceedings are routine in the family courts and in matters of national security, but it is almost unprecedented in Britain for a blogger to be tried in secret.

Lee, 47, who ran a blog on art and antiques, was found to be in contempt of court for publishing commercially confidential information about Buggins’s activities and for refusing to take the articles
