  • Dear Odysee Community,
Today, our point of discussion is focussed on the unfortunate truth that in present day experience, posting to Odysee doesn't necessarily gain much viewership compared with YouTube.

We hear comments such as "I post to Odysee and I get no views" or "On YouTube I get 1000 views and on Odysee I get like 5".

These concerns are valid, and it would be disingenuous to deny them. However, when comparing to YouTube, it's important to remember that while YouTube boasts hundreds of millions of users, the distribution of content across its user base is actually quite low.

We are also committed to not inflating view counts with fake views to create a false impression of popularity, a common practice in the social media space.

This means, we really need to put in the work together to become a meaningful force in the world.

The best things that we can do to gain views really are the most obvious:

    1. If you're a creator, emphasise as much as possible that the best way for your community to watch you is through Odysee.
    2. Try releasing on Odysee before other platforms and encourage your community to watch you on Odysee instead of elsewhere.
    3. Release exclusive only to Odysee and letting your community know that they have to come to Odysee to watch everything you've got.
    4. Tell your favourite creators to join Odysee and post more to help the growth of platform and network (More on this network later).
    5. Tell people about the Watch on Odysee plugin - the benefit provides viewers with the ability to circumvent ad

A lot of these ideas essentially come down to word of mouth, but these principles are effective.

What do you guys think are effective ideas for gaining viewership?

      • Improve the search function. It really needs it.
      • Do guerilla marketing in RL (preferably funny).
      • Creators need to lower their membership fees (im not paying $5 or $10/month to every creator im subbed to, sorry)
      • Let me have some sort of account, where I cound transfer a set amount of $/month and use that for subs and tips. Also my credit company doesn't need to know, what kind of content i'm subbed to.
      • Embrace useful content, like tutorials. Better SEO for them.
      • Finally, just be ready to catch as many viewers as possible, once the inevitable YT-exodus happens.

      • ad program to connect advertisers to content creators.

      • I agree with marketing in real life and not just online. Knowing who your audience is and where they may be is helpful.

      • "Improve the search function. It really needs it."

This is so badly needed it's not even funny. I get far more accurate and useful results searching for content on Odysee by using startpage or duckduckgo than I do inside of Odysee.

      • Agree the financial returns are better on YouTube due to its size and time it has been in existence. That makes a difference.

      • Sadly, in the Netherlands we still cannot do anything with membership.

        • Second this - Let me have some sort of account, where I could transfer a set amount of $/month and use that for subs and tips. Also my credit company doesn't need to know, what kind of content i'm subbed to.
        • make it easier to be subscribed to premium - the wording is weird and also it is impossible (or i think) to buy credits to post videos and other content - i might have time to post but not to watch 10 videos a week - i'm okay with paying for credits
        • make it work to use an email again for an account if you have deleted an old one or to use a cc on multiple accounts for credits and varied accounts

      • Feature suggestions:

        • CC/Subtitles (including different languages and community subtitles)
        • Annotations (including community annotations)
        • I don't know what you prefer, but I prefer 5-star rating over Like/Dislike (or Fire/Slime in this case)
        • Customizable channel page (helps define creator's personality, thus increasing viewer engagement)
        • Audio tracks for different languages (some viewers prefer dub over sub, it's understandable)

      • @Odysee

For search on my website I used Solr. Setting it up took me a couple days and the help of AI was very handy. But once it's set up it's quite powerful in my opinion and you don't have to program any search logic yourself.
I got it to read a whole SQL database (all fields, including JSON fields), this happens offline, and then online the search for one or multiple words, also phrases, throughout all fields and whole database is very quick. I don't even know if the LBRY system even uses SQL database but if you do, I could help you.

    • Yes, I have this problem. I left YouTube for Odysee two years ago and not many views and also followers/subscribers have been gained and because of that, I started publishing less content, from once a week to once a month and many more. Despite this however I will never come back to YouTube/leave Odysee because I believe there is hope.

I will never stop persuading people to join Odysee and leave YouTube, I don't use the YouTube channel sync, I upload them directly to Odysee. Recently I lodged an application for a channel on Playeur, however no response has come. I did hear that Vlare (the platform I used in 2019-2020 before their shut down) are considering a return in the future but no promises can be made. For now it is a thing in the past.

Let's contribute Odysee's growth! We should not give up.

      • Popular content creators should be more responsible!

        Log in to reply68
      • Agree. Youtube or whatever you use.. streamers who want to bring people over to alternative platforms should make intro or short videos of what they will be talking about and directly invite people to alt-media for the full video. This is the best way to push people to make the jump.

        Log in to reply40
    • If the retards complaining want more views on Odysee, let them stop posting on censortube.
YOU, the content creator, need to leave youtube - you can't expect viewers to leave first....and if that does happen, you're as good as a dead channel because they will be watching others on alt tech.

      Log in to reply516
      • I agree - why would you want to be a part of something that clearly does not want you to be a serious part of it?

        Log in to reply140
      • Exclusives sell new platforms, multiplats reinforce the monopoly of the top platform.

      • It's kind of like politics in a two party system, everyone says they hate both mainstream political parties but no one votes for the newer smaller parties because "it's a wasted vote"

        Log in to reply140
    • YouTube also has more bots and fake accounts to the nth power.

      Log in to reply300
    • Some creators release a brief clip to YT and provide a link to Odysee for the full video. This can also help people who have trouble keeping their videos up on YT.

Some creators feature the Odysee link prominently and mention that Odysee is "home base".

      Log in to reply290
      • I do this especially on longer videos to limit weird region blocking and ID claims, some are outright fraudulent copy-troll claims.

        Log in to reply40
      • One creator I can think of, HugoTalks, actually does the opposite. Uploads the trailer to Odysee, links to Youtube. Weird for a born again christian to feed the beast system that way.

        Log in to reply00
      • I do something similar to that for my "new tech exclusives" I will put a short advetisement on Youtube linking it to the full video on here.

    • The unfortunate reality is that normies don't care about free speech, they care about money and convenience. The people I got to use invite codes frequently told me they were turned off by the token system. That's the first problem. Second problem is getting people paid. Most people don't care for crypto, and you can't even exchange lbry tokens in certain countries anyway. The dollar exchange exists but only previously popular people are getting paid with real money.

I don't really have any helpful suggestions for engagement unfortunately. Maybe focus advertising on what sets you apart from other websites like being able to upload multiple file types. That's convenient for people who don't like making videos. Improve search and fix the categories. The art tag is full of non art things and also you have to email the company just to be added to the category. Create a way to search for non YouTube syncs. I wish it were easier to find odysee exclusives.

      Log in to reply280
      • TLDR: Odysee failed because its basically pre-monetization YT and there is no longer a demand for that, and those who say there is are too blackpilled to actually upload anything now..
Also yes the YTseync exclusive must happen, majority of the place is just synced garbage from the usual suspects I really would like a way to filter them out.

      • Normies don't care about free speech because they've got nothing interesting or controversial to say. Most people are natural born slaves who believe whatever their television tells them. Look what happened during covid for example. I'm actually glad millions of vaxtards have died from strokes and myocarditis since 2020, they deserve it.

        Log in to reply131
      • I totally agree, for crypto, we don't care. Nothing like real dollars in pay for people who have a channel.

    • youtube is still the go-to for low iq and midwit content. but only odysee has high iq content like devon stack and jf garipey due to lack of censorship. parallel purposes. it's ok to not grow. growth leads to compromise.

      Log in to reply4623
      • There's some truth to this, but it's tempered by some law like diminishing returns.
You need a platform to get large enough to be sustainable, but further growth becomes corrupted.
We need choice, but a million platforms would lead to more confusion than help.
Just as we humans need water, but in a room full we drown.

    • The Viewership on YouTube is absolutely fake. During a broadcast, I see the numbers in analytics, but something as simple as enabling chat will show that there is not "900 viewers in the past 48 hours".

    • YouTube took away my ability to pin comments and provide links for no reason and refuses to give it back. They did not tell me what rule I broke or why I'm experiencing lack of features and censorship I was previously granted prior to posting on Odysee.

      • The nasty piece of work they are, first them twisted our arm to use Google+
and froze people out of their accounts who didn't comply, then they dropped that for people
They then in 2021 or there about they removed deleted the discussion tab and years of links and comments. They also allowing anyone to view any comments made
And when they run adverts which they claim blocking is against TOU, the advert's volume is blasting loud much louder than the video watched .

      • Youtube now requires a channel to be VERIFIED in order to pin comments. Also, links in the Video Descriptions are no longer live/"hot" (except YT links) if not verified. Slowly squeezing people for their IDs.

      • Engagement is much higher here on Odysee even if the audience is unambiguously tiny. If you get 10 views on something, you might get engagement from 5 of those people.

        @OregonPacifist

gets not many views, but makes $50 a month off the subscribers and his audience is consistently able to support his various endeavors across numerous platforms. We're in the "build something, anything" phase and the fact that we've made it this far proves how long we've been around.

4 years ago people didn't think New Tech was possible in theory and even the cringe fringe laughed at it. Now New Tech is self sustaining even if it has to get creative about how to pay bills. Its evolution baby

      • someone mentioned rumble; my thoughts on rumble; a rumble ramble; odysee is grass roots comparatively; rumble paid out lots of money to pull in popular content creators; be very wary of this tactic as it is a short cut that is used to cuckcull the public when it matters; think about paypal paying people to sign up; think about google paying people to sign up; think about all the marketing scams that do this; rumble is going to corral and cuckcull just like ziotube did; no doubt about it and a large number of content creators in it for the money like doctors with convid are going to roll over for the $$$ again and again resulting in death and destruction; i believe rumble is another trap; odysee hasn't made me feel this way in four years; that is a good sign; P.S. everyone centralized / monopolized on any one platform is going to be used to evil end

        Log in to reply152
        • It may or may not be a trap, but we should treat it as if it might be.
Even if it is not intended as one, it may become one.
The price for freedom is eternal vigilance apparently, we get to keep as much freedom as we can watch over.

        • This is exactly why I love Odysee and hope they don't use any of the tactics mainstream platforms have for the past 13+ years, its what lead to the death of the internet, all corpo, all for profit/for fame low quality disposable garbage.

        • I signed up to rumble pre convid they never mentioned needed a selfie phone to comment and upload and they deleted the account I signed up to watch, they never even had a delete account
had to contact them to do that. I later discovered who owns them. I don't share or watch there
I get the title & do a search to locate the video elsewhere.

        • Vanguard Group bought a 5% stake in Rumble on December 29, 2023 and it's disclosed in their SEC filing in February of this year that's posted on their investor site. I fully expect Rumble to be implementing the same restrictions as YT by the end of the year.

          Log in to reply60
        • this is exactly why i didnt even go to youtube but directly started to publish on odysee as it seemed the only platform to be at least a little more resilient to this kind of death trap of censorship and manipulation.

          Log in to reply40
        • Rumble did what worked to get them to the top of the heap. In just a few years, they raced past Odysee. Odysee chose to not go that route, for whatever reason, and they are lagging behind. IMO, the smart option is to continue backing Odysee, but to also back Rumble. Buy Rumble stock. Become part of the solution. Treat it like that GameStop thing -- buy the stock and hold. If enough of us do that, we become a force for good. There's no Odysee stock you can buy, so anything you do for Odysee only makes Odysee stronger while you get nothing substantive. Yeah, blackrock bought a 5% stake in Rumble, and that should be something to note. If they're buying, you should be buying. Build up your wealth. Even if Rumble is awful, in your view, using them to make positive gains in your life that you can then use to combat them... that's smart. That's exactly what Liberty Safe Company did. That's what the Leftists always do. Almost every "conservative" company is actually owned by devout leftists who work behind the scenes and funnel the money they make off conservatives into causes that conservatives hate.
