The gym went through a $150,000 renovation that included new paint, ceiling, restroom upgrades and a refinishing of the gym floor.
The gym was the long-time home of Mt. Pleasant Community High School sports and now will once again have the squeaks of the shoes of basketball players echoing through its halls, along with some other activities.
Mt. Pleasant Park and Rec Director Kory Alfred said Cottrell is going to get a lot of use from the school district for middle school through JV basketball practice. It also will be the home of Mt. Pleasant's youth and adult basketball and volleyball leagues.
Batting cage netting has been installed on the south side of the gym where under where the second story bleachers used to be. Alfred pictures little league teams using these.
The gym is going to have open hours between Nov. 19 and March 19 on Saturdays and Sundays. Admission for open gym will be $1 per person. Alfred also said there are plans to open the gym for an indoor playground and a place to walk. He said it will be three times a week, but hours and days have not been decided as yet. The admission for those activities also will be $1.
The gym also may be rented for $25 an hour or $120 for an entire day. Batting cages will cost $10 an hour during open gym and $25 an hour during other times. The indoor driving range will cost $5 per half hour.
