Christleton is living proof that a traditional village can move with the times. The Domesday Book recorded 23 households: 12 villagers, five smallholders, two female serfs/slaves (maidservants), two “reeves” (officials) and two “radmen” (riders or roadmen). Today’s 2,500 residents include solicitors, accountants, head teachers, company directors, NHS leaders and IT specialists, and the premium postcode’s selling points are two outstanding state schools, three roaringly good pubs, and upmarket homes.
There is also quite a social scene: choir practice and candlelit carol singing come with tea and cake and bell-ringers are kept busy at St James’ Church (the CofE parish, not far from the equally active Christleton Methodist Church).
