- Planned obsolescence is a subscription service in disguise. If you can't repair your own devices, you need to pay the vendor in perpetuity to be able to use your device. It is a disguised subscription sevice. BMW has shown companies would really love you to pay repeatedly for something that technically requires only one payment.
