<Trombe>

Irritation coursed through him. Even with all this, she refused to go down. Time to get a bit reckless.

"Break through, Azoth... Liberate Limit!" Trombe growled, a red glow suffusing his body.

"f***ing... how many power-ups do you have?" Mithril shouted at him, half a second before Trombe crossed the distance in an instant and swung twenty or so swords at her head. A few actually connected before she teleported away, only for Trombe to be right back on top of her.

"No more of your tricks," Trombe seethed, relentless with his swarm of blades. Anywhere she turned, there they were. The close range gave her plenty of opportunity to throw out attacks of her own, though, and she put that to good use, flooding the space around them with explosive marbles. With all the blades surrounding him, there was plenty for them to detonate against, but now Mithril found that, no matter what element she used, none seemed to be more effective than any of the others.

'Liberate Limit, he called it... did he remove his weaknesses? That has to have some kind of drawback, but what?' she thought, right before Trombe tagged her with three Crimson Splits in a row. She felt lightning, ice, and fire aspected energy hit with each strike, and each one seemed to hit harder than the last. That was the last of her worries, though, because he followed it up by creating a large number of huge red runic bands around her.

"All hope is lost for you! Crimson Fury!" the Warboss roared, a red glow suffusing the area, and with it Mithril felt herself slow to a crawl.

"Exanosis, Aquisoma, Deyte, Rune. Destructoblade, set. Flowers of the Blades!" Trombe called, and his dozens upon dozens of blades launched like rockets to slam through Mithril, each and every blade striking in an endless flurry, culminating in one larger blade slamming down on her from above.

The forest of swords soon reasserted itself around him as his red glow dissipated. Liberate Limit didn't last long, but while it lasted...

Trombe looked up, seeing Mithril still laying prone on the ground. Had that killed her? Or was this a ploy? He kind of hoped it was the former, because keeping Genocide Shift going this long was wearing at him. He kept his guard up nonetheless, as he slowly crept towards her in order to check.

I have determined that Trombe has taken enough prior damage now. Time to move in for the kill.

Remember that annoying Exanosis Fog? My analysis of it is now complete. I know the specifications to use to shut off that damn thing. And shut it off I did.

I got up in an extremely abrupt manner, annihilating whatever personal space the Grand Phantasm had, shouting extremely loudly right into his face, and unleashing a storm of power nullifier and rust-colored waves, which rippled through the cavern, dissipating the fog. Simultaneously, I warped in a gigantic mass of metal that filled in a significant portion of the cavern, trapping Trombe and preventing him from dodging. Iron Maiden!

Realizing that he would not be able to block a heavy attack at point-blank range, the Grand Phantasm was cutting into the Iron Maiden with his many Azoth in an attempt to create space for him to evade. Unfortunately, even as he did so, countless strings spun out from the Iron Maiden, attaching to him, tangling him and interfering with his movements.

It is very probable that my Iron Maiden will trap Trombe for only an instant... but at this range, an instant is all I need.

Metal Gate: Aggro Shift. My stats are now shifted into offense and raw killing power. You're a dead man now, Grand Phantasm Trombe.

"METAL KAISER!" I roared intensely, finally unleashing a tremendously powerful melee attack, a brutally potent metal beamstrike to the upper body. Said attack slammed into him, taking advantage of his prior damage to burst though, tearing through his brain, heart, and spine, before blasting whatever remained of his corpse into the far wall at the other end of the cavern.

First things first, even though he was quite probably surprised by the whole "me screaming like a maniac and obliterating his personal space" thing along with the melee attack, he cut into me with some of those Azoth. Yeah, it's obvious I received more damage.

Second, now that I recall more of my initial read of Trombe's Grand Phantasm power, and have a chance to mull it over more, I now suspect that my initial guess about Liberate Limit was wrong; Liberate Limit might not even have a drawback. It's probably a good thing that I ended the fight there then.

... assuming of course, that I actually ended the fight. My creeping sense of paranoia is tingling. The general structure of Trombe's Grand Phantasm power... something's wrong, somehow. Could it be that it's not over yet?

Regardless of whether or not my paranoia is justified, I'm not going to make the same mistake Trombe made. I'm not going to let up even though he's a corpse. Time to keep up the pressure.

I fired attack after attack at Trombe's corpse, tearing through the bits and pieces of his scarf and blazer floating through the air near his flight path, blasting away at whatever remained of the Grand Phantasm. During my cleanup effort, I queued up options in case the Warboss had an even more ridiculous powerup in store after this. Will I have to fight UNDEAD super angry super Trombe after this?!?!?

An ominous red light burst out from the spot where Trombe'd hit the wall, a wave of malignant energy blowing away Mithril's stream of attacks. Two black arms reached out of the hole to grab the edges of the wall and pull the Warboss free, but he was now obviously changed.

With his blazer shredded, he now stood with only strips of cloth still hanging from him. His left eye, and a chunk of flesh around it, hadn't regenerated, and now a very dark red light emanated from the socket. Most prominent was the gaping hole through his chest, where a seething red light could be seen pulsing, replacing his destroyed heart. Several other open wounds were clearly visible across his upper body, but he didn't seem to notice.

"f***'s sake, what's it take to kill this guy?" Mithril growled as the Warboss stepped forward and grabbed two of his blades, the dozens of copies swirling around him once again. He moved somewhat awkwardly, like he wasn't all there quite yet. Latching onto that opportunity, Mithril called up as much power as she could to fire off another attack. She never got the chance.

"Final Phantasm. Omnicide Shift," Trombe whispered tonelessly. The copies of the Crimson Azoth smoothly slid themselves into the same space as the two swords he was holding, until there were only the two left. Then, he placed one blade in front of him, tip to the ground, swiped upwards, and every instinct in Mithril's body screamed to move.

This pressure wave was not like any of the others. There was something tinging it, Mithril thought as she observed the attack's aftermath in a detached manner. They were no longer in what one could call a cavern, given almost everything in the general direction of 'in front of Trombe' was now missing, out to a frankly distressing distance. Sunlight spilled in from the gaping hole where the ceiling had once been.

There was also, you know, the fact that everything on Mithril's left side - she'd dodged to the right - was now very, very gone. He hadn't just blasted it away; he'd goddamn atomized it. That was a hell of a lot of metal she wasn't getting back.

Trombe regarded the damage impassively before turning his gaze back to Mithril. In his one eye, should could see a seething hatred so pure it had drowned all other emotion.

"Run, if you like. I'll slaughter every living thing on this continent before I hunt you down. That'll hurt you more than just killing you, won't it?" the Warboss said in a voice dripping with contempt. Then he was gone in a burst of wind, to make good on his threat.

Immediately, Mithril had activated her nuclear Super Mode (the name of said nuclear mode currently unknown) and headed off to intercept Trombe.

The location that Mithril selected for her fight against Trombe had its closest populated location as Ludibrium for precisely this reason, namely, if Trombe decided to go on a killing spree. That said, he was currently in the process of ignoring Ludibrium, so Mithril had to fix that.

He was too dangerous for Mithril to approach directly like this, so she used Accel Shift + warping in clones to try and get his attention.

Unfortunately for Mithril, Trombe's Final Phantasm power was still at 100%, so she could do no damage to him right now, even with her nuclear mode. The Warboss was making a beeline for the closest civilian population, and was currently flat-out ignoring Mithril.

Unfortunately for Trombe, ignoring Mithril meant that one of her clones blasted Epsilon's orb off its chain during one of her attacks, creating an opportunity for one of Mithril's clones to steal it and warp it away to Ludibrium.

Initially, Trombe didn't notice. Mithril did not hesitate it pointing that out for him.

"Hey Trombe, I stole Epsilon's orb and took it to Ludibrium! And you'll never see it again!" taunted Mithril's clones. The Warboss's response was an attack kind of like Black Scythe's Dimension Slash, taking out the clones, and an unsettling roar of raw fury. Trombe then promptly did a 180 and then rushed right back towards Ludibrium to retrieve Epsilon's orb.

Flying high over Ludibrium, Mithril's clones ever so helpfully directed Trombe here by blasting him with nuclear shots, which the Warboss simply bulldozed through, heading to the damaged city at high speed. He took out most of the clones flying over Ludibrium with another attack like the previous one, the intense winds buffeting the city underneath.

Meanwhile Mithril had been informing Hero Squad of the Trombe problem.

"Attention Hero Squad, this is an IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT. Trombe is currently attempting to go on a killing spree, and now has an even more ridiculous powerup. Be on high alert for a huge Black Pikmin that looks like a walking corpse, as well as absurdly humongous pressure waves," Mithril broadcasted, telling all Hero Squad members of the situation. "I am currently in the process of kiting Trombe over to Ludibrium to prevent civilian casualties."

"Do you require assistance?" Bloodriver asked.

"The only Hero Squad member who could possibly help without dying here is... Libera, but if he's not in SUPER Spiral whatever his super powerup mode is right from the start he'll DIE I know you're hearing this Libera also prepare the antiradiation measures/spells Rune/Bloodriver. THIS IS GONNA GET MESSY," Mithril stated.

"Walking corpse...? Exactly what kind of powerup are we talking about here?" asked Libera.

"Trombe called it Final Phantasm. It triggered when I destroyed his heart, brain, spine, and a bunch of his other innards I thought he needed to survive... now that I think about it, he might still be dying on his own, but we need him to die FASTER, before he kills any Hero Squad members or civilians. Also here's a screenshot of Final Phantasm Trombe unleashing a pressure wave, to give you an idea of the s*** I have to deal with," Mithril explained.

"Oh what the hell, since when could Trombe do that? Alright, I'm heading in." said Libera.

"Cassandra is currently stationed at Ludibrium and is likely to join the fight against Trombe. Be on your guard; she is extremely dangerous. While it is likely that she will ignore the two of you in favor of focusing on Trombe, it is heavily advised that you avoid turning Cassandra's wrath towards you," Bloodriver warned.

Meanwhile, Trombe has reached Ludibrium and was promptly attacked by Cassandra, who blasted him with twin arcane beams of frost and power. Trombe was currently at 98% power, and because he was under 100%, he took damage, however minor. Pieces of skin were ripped off him by the arcane frost beams before Trombe blasted away the beams with another Dimension Slash-like attack, which took off one of Cassandra's arms as she dodged.

As her arm regenerated, Cassandra generated multitudes of humongous exploding arcane icicle missiles and fired them at Trombe, as all the fighters of Ludibrium watched on.
<Sapphire>

I know each of us is really strong, but even with that, the Black Pikmin are also pretty strong, which is why it was taking so long for us to push forward.

With Omicron's troops showing up, though, we've got numbers, and the Fist of Zeromus's attention is split. Omicron's troops pretty much immediately punched a huge hole in their lines, leaving ample space for the rest of us to push in.

With their lines breaking down, Beta and Vashj had begun to push forward with aplomb, with Vashj's water attacks making it fairly simple to pick off any lone Black Pikmin that attacked them. I flowed around behind them, pulling energy from the stragglers since I was running a bit dry. They had plenty to give, after all.

It was as I descended upon one of said stragglers that the chainsaw one - the one that had been pestering Orvtre - took a swing at me with his tail, and I barely avoided it hitting my chest, instead losing an arm to the vibrating chainsaw. A volley of smaller knives followed, but I dodged aside from that and kicked a spray of icy shards at him to make him back off while I collected enough ice to put my arm back together.

Before he could retaliate, something zoomed in and kicked him in the head, sending the mechanical-limbed Black Pikmin skittering across the ice until he turned invisible again. The something in question turned out to be a Blue Pikmin with mechanical legs of his own.

"Push forward, I'll take care of this one," he huffed, a puff of steam billowing from his mouth before he zipped off at high speed towards something I couldn't see but, apparently, he could. That's... kinda odd. He moves a bit like Quicksilver... Well, that got me the time I needed to regenerate my arm, so I took his advise and kept going, Orvtre now not far behind me.

Inside Megadakka

"Hey, boss, dey's tearing us up out dere! We ain't gonna hold fer long!" one of the lower-ranked Black Pikmin shouted up to a much bigger one. The Mega Nob glared down at him.

"Keep loadin' dat cannon til der last second! We's gonna give dese gits somefin' ta rememba us by!" the Mega Nob yelled back, gesturing with his arm cannon to make his point. It got the Boyz to keep doing their thing, so that was good enough for him. Quietly, however, he made his way to a side room, grabbing a Wyrd Boy on the way.

"Oi, get's der fingie prepped and ready ta get out's o' here. We can't let dem squishies know we gots it!"

The Wyrd Boy blinked at him. "But... but don't we needs da fingie ta keep-"

He was cut off by the Mega Nob clocking him over the head. "More impor'ant dat dey don't knows we gots it! Get it ready, and get it gone quick as ya kan!"

"Gots it, boss!"

?-Orvtre-?

Buckle up and embrace the cold, Fist of Zeromus. There's going to be a lot of ice and frost this season, which was the last thing an isolated Black Pikmin knew before he died of icicle-impalement.

I was continuing my efforts in providing protection and healing for my group, and thanks to Captain dealing with... Blade Wolf (a few of the Black Pikmin had called him that a while back, that's why I know his name), I can allocate a few more clones into offense.

Their lines are breaking down now. My clones have taken out more isolated Black Pikmin, with the next one being killed by freezing and s***tering. The one after that died after I blasted him with lots of lava. The one after that resisted electricity apparently, but he died when I slammed Gurgurant right through his armor.

I shot another Black Pikmin with the Prism Cannon while we advanced towards the nearest heat sink. This Black Pikmin survived the shot and then began shooting at us with some of their loud guns, but he was promptly killed when the copies of the strange, Asura-like cyborg beast with dozens upon dozens of arms descended upon him and attacked him and any isolated Black Pikmin in the area.

At last, we have reached one of the heat sinks itself. While making sure to keep the others safe simultaneously, Beta, Sapphire, Vashj, and I unleashed a combination attack, a shockwave that weakened the ice beneath the heat sink, while another of my clones unleashed lava waves to overload the ice with heat. The heat sink, partially scorched by the lava, promptly fell into the boiling water, descending into irrelevancy.

An explosion nearby indicated that Omicron's forces had taken out at least one heat sink as well. Advancing with caution, all of us headed towards the next closest heat sink, to bring Megadakka closer to destruction.
<Libera>

So, rampaging Trombe with landscape-altering attacks. And he's in Ludibrium, which looks to still be something of a warzone. Grand. I warped in with Spiral Perceptual Teleportation, popping in next to Mithril, who was whirling a necklace with a black orb on it around one finger.

"Is that...?" I whispered on seeing it.

"Yah, it's also what's got his attention on me. Speaking of which, move," Mithril ordered, ducking aside herself. I kicked aside in the same direction as a massive red wave washed over where I'd been standing, leaving a massive gouge through the city street.

"Well you seem to have very effectively pissed him off," I observed dryly, starting up the generator in my mechanical arm. Get the feeling I'm gonna need full power and then some for this.

"I'm kinda hoping the Correctors and the Cult here will slow him down a bit. He's stupid tough at the moment, couldn't even scratch him earlier, but I think that won't last forever," Mithril replied as another shockwave tore through a building next to us. It was followed by a sweeping beam of frost, coating the street in ice, before a hellish bellow echoed out.

"Crimson... REVOLT!" Trombe's voiced roared, and then a gigantic shockwave blasted through the city, carrying an unnatural blood red flame with it. I threw up a spiral shield to tank it, and very nearly got torn off my feet as it slammed into me. The flames instantly swept over the entire upper portion of the city, blowing down every building in their path and leaving more than a few charred corpses in its wake. When the force of the shockwave subsided, there was just about nothing left standing atop the city, which now burned with those same unnatural flames.

"There's nowhere to hide now!" Trombe roared triumphantly, extending his swords out to his sides. "Crimson Eclipse!" he cried, swinging both blades together and sending a huge red wave in our direction. Mithril jetted out of the way, while I used my Spiral teleportation to warp behind the Warboss, produce a huge drill, and slam it into the base of his neck. There was a scraping, grinding sound, followed by an indignant roar, before he turned around and swung a blade into my drill, s***tering it into a million pieces.

"Oh. Oh dear," I said, utterly alarmed, before blasting off and away from him before he could take the time to eviscerate me. Okay, so Trombe hits like a f***ing meteor. Another massive beam from the side discouraged him from following me, thankfully, and looking to the source revealed a teal Pikmin I didn't recognize. That immediately sent up warning flags cause I'm pretty sure there's only supposed to be two of those. She screamed raw fury at him and rushed in to attack him head on, something she seemed to actually pull off with some kind of success seeing as he didn't turn her into a bloody smear instantly. I could see large plumes of blood flying off of her with each of his attacks, though, so she's not exactly holding up.

Well, if she wants to tank the brunt of his attacks, who am I to complain? With that thought, I opened up the missile ports on my mechanical arm's fingertips.

"Buster Missiles!" I shouted, firing a barrage of the small projectiles in Trombe's direction. I could see a similar barrage coming from Mithril's direction.

This apparently did not go unnoticed, because Trombe broke away from the Teal Pikmin, took a stance, and spun.

"Prominence Spark!" Trombe howled, a huge burst of black electricity lancing out from him to blast down all of the projectiles. Hoo boy.

Worth noting: My nuclear super mode causes me to emit plenty of radiation. It's the reason I don't like breaking it out during team battles, or near populated areas. Also worth noting: Libera seems to not be bothered by the radiation.

My top priority here is to avoid taking further damage as much as I reasonably can. I was busy dodging those since I had already taken a lot of damage from my fight against Grand Phantasm Trombe before he went Final. All things considered, it's a good thing that Cassandra is here to soak up some of those attacks though; I really don't want to take more damage at this point...

Yes, we had just received a call from Bloodriver explaining that this angry looking teal Pikmin is indeed Cassandra.

Anyways, since I had stolen Epsilon's orb, Trombe was currently gunning for me again, complicating the whole "avoid further damage" business. Several nuclear beams to the face seemed to not even slow him down, though it did singe away bits and pieces of his skin, indicating that his resistances are dropping.

Even with my additional speed from my nuclear super mode, evading super angry super dying Trombe is proving to be difficult... however the presence of Cassandra here was helping immensely, as she rushed down Trombe and then jammed some icicle-tipped gauntlet into his back, resulting in an explosion of arcane and frost, which also drew blood from the Warboss. Trombe immediately destroyed Cassandra's offending arm in retaliation, and caused her to lose even more blood.

Libera shot more drill missiles at Trombe, I fired some spears at the Warboss, did I mention that he was blowing away those shots with his attacks? Speaking of those attacks, it's a good thing that Libera was also here to compete for the Warboss's attention; extremely loud drills with exploding explosions can do that.

I was also using clones to shoot at Trombe and having a few of those charge up attacks; Final Phantasm Trombe however was doing pretty well at making sure my clones didn't get too much of a charge.

Cassandra, already really angry, seemed to get even angrier with the loss of all that blood, and she stomped the ground, cratering it to a disturbing degree and then causing a humongous graveyard of building-sized ice stalagmites to rise up to impale Final Phantasm Trombe. She then rushed forward and slammed him with a two-fisted punch imbued with arcane and frost: "Sōkotsu."

Amazingly, all of that actually seemed to stop Trombe for an instant, an instant we two Hero Squad members exploited by shooting the Warboss with more shots, before Trombe burst out in an angry roar and destroyed both of Cassandra's arms, resulting in even more blood.

I should really ask Bloodriver what the hell this Cassandra person's deal is after this. Whatever the reason is behind it, her strength is not normal.

Three targets down, and the heat is building. Megadakka vents longer after each shot, but it still fires every ten minutes, like clockwork. No reported damage to the glacier... yet.

The other thing is that, for all the Black Pikmin we butcher, there seem to always just be more of them. Structural calculations don't permit that many Black Pikmin to be inside Megadakka, so where are they all coming from? That thought pings around in my brain as I fly low behind a shelf in the ice while Megadakka fires once again, another payload heading toward the Colony. The main sphere is tough, but it won't weather this assault forever.

"Squad Five is pinned down near Heatsink 4, requesting backup."

"Squad Seven is approaching Heatsink 5, but we've got Mek Boyz bearing down on us hard!"

"This is Squad Eleven, deploying breaching charges to Megadakka's outer doors!"

Ebo-01 and 02 chime in that they're headed to Squad Five, while 03 and 04 head for Squad 7. Phantom 50k reports that it has joined with Squad 11. That leaves Virgo 400k and I free, as well as whatever G3 is up to; he's not reporting.

I also have no contact with Hero Squad, but their own actions tend to be fairly obvious, the massive ice storm on one side and constant magma attacks on the other are hard to miss. In particular, the lava blasts are approaching Heatsink 6, so that gives me an idea of where some of them are.

I, meanwhile, decided it was time to strafe some of their anti-air guns. Might seem like a bad idea for a flyer to do that, but I'm small and hard to hit, and their gun emplacements aren't all that quick. They've compensated with sheer quantity, but that's still not enough to tag me.

Nimbly, I weaved through a hellstorm of bullets and artillery fire as I swept over the facility, concentrating fire on each turret in turn. Annoyingly, the heavy armor on them is soaking most of my shots, but I'm not built for blasting down heavy targets all at once. I'll make another sweep in a few minutes, once they've had a chance to be distracted by other targets. Until then, I directed my fire towards a heavily entrenched group of Black Pikmin, tucked under Megadakka's main gun. This area is safe from the shockwaves, it seems, and they've gotten themselves good and stuck in to guard the cannon's primary access point. Let's see if they like me swooping through their formation.
