NZ youth need more knowledge and support for their Mental Health.

Psychology should be taught and mental health should be represented within all NZ Highschool curriculums

Youth in New Zealand have been struggling with their Mental Health, especially since the Covid-19 pandemic as seen in the rise of mental illness, yet no rise in support. The petition will be given to the Ministry of Education to change the school curriculum by adding a Psychology module to Health or Social Science classes at every school regardless of decile. This will spread awareness and provide a supportive safe space for those who relate and struggle.

Manifesto Demands:

  1. We need a compulsory module about psychology and mental health for students in either social studies or health classes at every school regardless of the decile or school district.

  2. We need undergraduate Psychology students at Universities to be able to run these programmes for high school students as a part of their course to gain experience.

  3. We need an educational psychology and mental health aspect to the teacher refresh programme which runs every three years, including role playing workshops.

  4. We need postgraduate Psychology or Educational Psychology students to be able to run these programmes for teachers as a part of their course to gain experience.
