Well, the other fags mentioned rsync already... I don't think anyone needs a book for this type of activity - or most computer tasks...

Did you know you can use rsync like this?

rsync -e "ssh -p 9022" -va --delete --exclude "venv" --exclude ".git" --exclude "__pycache__" goober@1.2.3.4:~/Desktop :/etc/nginx/sites-enabled :/etc/systemd/system/goobers_r_us.service ~/Documents/backup_le_remote_data/

Here is my mysql database backup command

mysqldump --user goober --password --host localhost --port 3306 --skip-add-drop-table --extended-insert --skip-quick --flush-logs --routines --skip-comments --add-locks --verbose dbname | gzip > ~/dumped_db.sql.gz

Why is every imageboard except 4chan dead? 4chan is the worst one:
>no tor, vpn, or proxy use
>countdown captcha
>automated spam bot and ai problem (which never happened before the countdown captcha)
>random banning and shutting down boards like /qa/ for no reason
>many such examples
The second most active imageboard still has 5 years old posts still active and live.

I've speculated this for a long time. Anyone fighting for privacy, anonymity, freedom of speech, and other human rights (real human rights, not trans crap) that the feds will flood with CP. I believe the feds go as far as setting people up and framing them. Remember that guy running a Tor node who got arrested because of someone else's CP? https://www.pcworld.com/article/440223/tor-exit-node-operator-convicted-of-abetting-spread-of-child-porn.html

They will regulate and destroy torrenting / piracy. (It became too popular)

They will enforce the cloud even moreso. They will demonize data-hoarding (the environment, pedo hysteria, uncensored AI scare, non-leftist extremism and much more.)

The saying "Once you put something online, it's there forever!" will be revealed to be a psy-op that gave you a false sense of security.

The Romanticization of the old internet will be shamed via memes. Nostalgia in general will be demonized by subverters. ("That guy is a nostalgiacel!")

My boomer mom said she would like a laptop. I was considering giving her my T460s. While the laptop has perfect speed, battery is not exactly good (only one of the batteries works and it had some use). Colors of the display are also kinda whack (61% sRGB), trackpad not best either.

Do you think it would be a good idea to spend around $500 to give her something modern? or Im really overthinking this and it would not be worth? She said earlier she would enjoy a Macbook Air M1 but that would be around a $1000 and I think it would be overkill and she would regret spending that much.

>Screen sharing is still pretty shit if you want to stream games or something
That's a Jitsi Meet jank (in Element). You have to go to Jitsi Meet settings in the Jitsi room, change the FPS to 30 (or 60 if that was an option), stop any ongoing video broadcast sent by you, then restart the video stream in Jitsi. And you'll need to do this everytime you join a Jitsi Meet web conference.

revolt is the cloest to discord by far, if you like the discord way of doing things (text/voice channels rather than group chats/calls) it's far and above the most similar
it's meant to have self hosted versions "coming soon" but the last time I asked the devs about it they basically laughed at me and said "doesn't this instance work for you?"

other than that and matrix as others have mentioned, teamspeak 5 has the ability to self host but it is a paid program. theres also nextcloud plugins for grouo chats/calls, if you already use nextcloud then it's not a silly idea to use those

And if you're using Wayland on GNU/Linux desktop (particularly sway / wlroots, don't remember if Ubuntu 22.04 LTS with GNOME had this issue), you may be broadcasting a black screen in Jitsi; Wayland doesn't give access to other windows without a portal, easier to use an X.org session in a browser in this scenario (or a better desktop OS, Wayland won't be ready before 2025 when Firefox ESR gets Wayland support).

>It is remarkable that in the four most recent editions of the UNIX system programmer’s manual the Bourne shell grammar described in the manual page does not admit the command who|wc. This is surely an oversight, but it suggests something darker: nobody really knows what the Bourne shell’s grammar is. Even examination of the source code is little help. The parser is implemented by recursive descent, but the routines corresponding to the syntactic categories all have a flag argument that subtly changes their operation depending on the context. Rc’s parser is implemented using yacc, so I can say precisely what the grammar is.

My personal solution to this issue is to install the Microsoft fonts not as additional, but a complete replacment. Delete all those shitty linux fonts.
>>

What a wasted get. The problem isn't the space, it's the fact that having hundreds of superfluous fonts makes having them all in a *scrollable list* totally pointless. Especially when you need to do anything with word docs, it's nonsense.

Hi, I've been burning some old 4:3 anime that don't have official releases in the west on DVDs for myself so I can watch them on my CRT. I use DVDStyler for this, since it has a pretty basic UI, and let's me burn 4-5 episodes onto a DVD.

I've been moving into the 16:9 era recently though, and want to burn the 16:9 anime onto a blueray, I have blank blueray discs, I just need to find a good software. (And if anyone knows a better DVD making program, I'd love that too since DVD Styler is shit when it comes to subtitles)

This is literally the reasoning and belief structure that causes everything around you to to get worse, minorities think like this, women think like this, trannies think like this. Society has become a zero sum game again like in the dark ages. If you haven't noticed this happening and think it's "the jews" or "the government" influencing these people, you've missed the fact that they don't need to. Fight for your spaces since they're fighting to take over yours.

For those of you who don't care to create a twitter account, I discovered a way to browse twitter without making one. Most nitter instances shut down, however there appears to be a working work around. Most instances are still down however this one works. Apparently the instance owner just needs to use their own account instead of the deprecated guest accounts feature, so that kinda works.
