@robb the ToS Says

> we do not build or train these models in such a way that they could learn, memorise, or be able to reproduce some part of Customer Data

But they then say that they offer autocomplete which is

Like - within the same document they contradict themselves. 😠

@robb It's being forced into everything now, and very few people who uses these products asked for it!

I'm hearing things all the time about companies looking into ways to leverage AI in their products. It’s grim.

@andycarolan And Slack is a paid product, it's not like they need a new way to make money, they already charge per user and it's not cheap.

@robb Sadly, money doesn't slow down the AI invasion.

Abode CC is a not-all-that-cheap paid product and that now has Generative AI features baked in. I wish I could opt out of it!

@andycarolan @robb it is not easy, but we should not raise a white flag.

@Cloud68 It's difficult to migrate to another service/app when everything either has AI in it, or soon will be @robb

@andycarolan @robb we strongly disagree, but we are also biased :)

@Cloud68 Well, the problem for me for example, is that Adobe CC, a product that I need for work, now has generative AI baked into it. I would love to opt out, or switch to another product, but I can't... I rely on the apps too much for that. Also, if there were an alternative, there's nothing stopping that from doing the same, and adding AI into their suite of tools. @robb

@andycarolan @robb indeed some apps and software are not easy to migrate, but we can start from low hanging fruits no? For Slack for example there is #mattermost or #MatrixMessenger .

@Cloud68 @andycarolan I don't have control over what chat app we use at work but if I did, I cannot imagine trying to onboard our non-technical team members onto Matrix.

@Cloud68 Agreed, and for small teams, I imagine the migration would be relatively painless... Larger companies might be a different story however. As you say though, we have to start with the low hanging fruit. @robb

@andycarolan @Cloud68 @robb On that note, while not a complete replacement, have you tried @penpot? :)

@aral I've not tried it yet, but it is on my radar! I may have a opportunity to try that soon actually. @Cloud68 @robb @penpot

@andycarolan @Cloud68 @robb @penpot Cool; do let them know how you get on. They’re a friendly bunch.

@andycarolan @robb it's ok, we're not really stressed about the future of larger companies. They are going to be fine by monopolising markets.

@andycarolan @Cloud68 For Slack I don't have a choice, it's what we use at work. The only thing I can do is not post anything personal like photos, which I have done in the past.

@robb I think this is how tools like that will suffer... people won't add as much rich content through fears that it will be used to train those AI models. AI is dumb already, and it will only get dumber as people further restrict their content. @Cloud68
