I thought this was discontinued but I just got my nose on it at Dubai airport. It's really good. Smells like a new car or new shoes mixed with vanilla. Sexy and sweet, but not cloying. Unisex. I'd buy it if it were on a discount.

I got tester, I used it for 2-3 days. Sillage is good, however smell is not that good, I can say it is over hyped. Not for me.

I have Y edp, that is 1000x better than Babycat.

This one garners me compliments from strangers like no other. Even my mom who hates fragrance likes this one. I find it similar to Encens Suave (the only fragrance from Matiere Premiere I can get on board with), this one is just more vanillic and dark.

Got this gem today, very hard to find in South Africa!

Finally got my hands on this and to be blunt it's a top 5 fragrance ever made. Nothing else needs to be said. I'm actually sick of all the compliments.

Riddle me this. How is this at all different than Rosen Mateu No. 5? I've had experiences with both of these fragrances, and I really can't see much of a difference.

Besides that, this fragrance is fantastic in all honesty. It's fantastic deep and rich vanilla scent that has a heavy leather undertone which is the most prominent note in my humble opinion.

I believe that this is the best YSL Fragrance money can buy. I own this one, and have gotten great performance out of it. I'd especially recommend this for the colder winter seasons, as I don't think this would work too well in the hot summer weather.

I had been considering a blind buy of this one after loving the descriptions, but am so glad I gave it a test run first. On my skin, the immediate hit was vanilla and stale cigarettes (which I didn't mind), but in about an hour it started to morph into something so heady and head-shoppy, it had me making the "ewww" face as it verged on repulsive. An hour later, it had morphed further and brought back memories of my youth when, at Catholic mass, the priest would burn the incense and swing the cauldron around and fill the church with so much smoke that as an asthmatic I feared for my life. I cannot believe how strong and long-lasting this is (so def worth the money if this is your thing.) I went to bed regretful, unable to get the scent off of my body and out of my nose, and then woke up this morning thinking "what is that amazing smell?" The gagging smoke had been replaced by a light, cedary-sandalwoody, clean and natural smoky scent that was absolutely divine. I'm now about 26 hours in, I've worked out twice and had a shower, and it's still detectable when I move my hands around. I'm happy to have experienced the 11th hour Babycat redemption, but there is absolutely no way I could suffer through the first two acts again to get here. It's not for the faint of heart, or for anyone wanting to wear a different scent in the day or two after...

Update: incredible. It's been three days and while no longer in the air, the scent holds fast to my skin. It's at least fully settled into the best of the base notes now, which I admit I'm still enjoying.

Incensy, burning woods, spiced vanilla! Smooth leather (suede) undercurrent wrapping the whole thing up underneath and adds effect, kind of like a new shoe box ish. The first time i sprayed this someone said I smell like a fire lol...and I strongly smelt new shoe boxes in bazaars in south asia, where they burn mosquito repellent incense in shops...after a few wears I started getting used to it more and my nose picked the vanilla up more and it got less shoe boxy for me...Now it indeed smells like a spicey incensy vanilla with less of the 'fake leather' (which I also liked anyway). but This is one you need to let ur nose adjust to rather than jumping to a conclusion based on a tester spray. Test on skin at home away from other perfumes. It really grows on you and is extremely pleasant in the air...defo smells niche and rn its hard to dislike for me. I never disliked it but my nose defo changed the way I smelt it overtime, or maybe maceration made a difference. Must try if you like the idea of insencey spiced smokey warm vanilla with ruberry/new shoe box leather undertone

i left a review already a long time ago, its probably quite different to this one haha. I wore it after a long time recently and it was so strong and long lasting, I could smell it projecting strongly 16 hours later, and it was still on my clothes over a day later. Such a great fragrance that defo grows on you if you're caught off guard in the beginning- not linear, very interesting, well-executed, and just an awesome scent. Best from the line imo

I’m sorry but this fake leather note they are putting in everything nowadays is the most repulsive nausea-inducing thing I’ve ever smelled in perfumery. I’ve owned many leather scents over the years but over the past 2 years I had to instantly resell so many overpriced niche bottles I stupidly blind bought because I can’t fight the sick feeling it invokes. The same note here is on Ganymede, Tubereuse Astrale, and others. I thought it was just my chemistry and taste that didn’t vibe with these scents but every one I’ve tested has made my husband and everyone around me scrunch their nose and comment “it smells like disinfectant and new car smell/plastic offfassing or something…” utterly humiliating. Well, hooray, I now get to resell another blind buy fail.

It smell exactly like the cinnamon scented pine packs what you can buy in grocery stores around Christmas time . I hate it

share

samuelminaj

You either love it or you hate it. I have to say the incense note is VERY predominant, but it balances itself so well with the vanilla. It’s a really strong fragrance. You won't go unnoticed with this. Longevity is amazing. Projection as well.

share

Dbrummag

It smells like oldddddddddd leather, I don’t mean vintage leather I’m talking an old doctors bag or pair of shoes from the 1800s that have developed a musky vibe. I’ve smelled this exact scent profile in antique shops before. The elemi and the olibanum resins do give it a bit of an addicting quality that keep you wanting to come back even if you don’t 100% love the scent. I can’t say I’ve smelled any other fragrances quite like this so it’s unique but I’m not sure in a good way. I definitely don’t understand the crazy hype and the fact it’s nearly impossible to find a bottle.

Normally I try a fragrance 3ish times before writing a review. Often it takes me more than one try to work out if I like something, but a select few perfumes have been love at first smell, this is one of them. (I will come back after more tries and update if necessary though)

Fragrance is sooo subjective and smells so different on some people that its borderline pointless reading reviews to decide if you should try something or not tbh. However here we all are :) I had to add this in as the previous reviews are soo negative and I just cant understand it, subjectively.

Ok so I LOVE this. Straight to the top of my FB want list. Personally it reminds me of BTFP which I also love so if you dont enjoy that I would guess you wont enjoy this either. Its fantastically blended, rich, good but not overwhelming sillage. Comparing it to other frags I have personally tried and enjoyed its a bit similar to Halfeti (penhaligons) in that it is an aromatic spicy vanilla. Its like if BTFP and Halfeti had a lovechild and it inherited all the best parts from its parents. Smoky, vanillic, spiced goodness. So its heaven in a bottle for me.

I personally would wear this as a signature, anytime, anywhere, any temp.

And this is also what makes me laugh about all this fragrance review writing etc. because HONESTLY its pointless, perfume is HIGHLY subjective. To me this is close to perfect and a totally safe blind buy but obviously everyone does not feel that way. There is absolutely no such thing as a 'safe blind buy'. I couldn't disagree more with reviews with anything negative to say about this.. but I wouldn't want it any other way - the world would be so boring if we were all the same.

After smelling the Stronger With You line, I was convinced I didn't like vanilla fragrances. Turns out, I just don't like overly sweet, slightly synthetic vanilla fragrances. I ordered a sample of Babycat because of the hype it was receiving online. I wasn't expecting much, as I had this idea that I don't like vanilla and leather notes. Boy was I surprised by Babycat! I kept smelling myself all day after applying the sample, and I had to apply it the day after as well, as I couldn't get enough. After a couple of weeks I managed to find a full bottle in a local perfumery for a very good price, and I happily bought it.

Babycat opens with some spicyness, and a warm, deep, not-too-sweet vanilla that blends beautifully with a suede note to create almost a chocolatey effect. I'd say the scent is perfectly unisex, but it might come off as too feminine to some men, and too masculine to some women. While I love Babycat, I have no problem acknowledging that it's not the most interesting, complex, high quality fragrance out there, and sure there are better vanilla fragrances out there. But to me, Babycat just hit the right spot, it smells great and suits my personality and how I like to present myself.

Babycat has probably been overhyped online by influencers. It's not a groundbreaking fragrance, not the best vanilla fragrance you'll ever smell, and it's overpriced for what it is. Still, it's a really good fragrance, and I've loved wearing it this winter!

I liked it at first and wore it out a couple of times but now I just cannot stand it. The scent is very overpowering and suffocating. Too dark and smoky for my liking.

share

I smelled this today at Holt Renfrew when I went in to buy Tuxedo perfume and it’s so horrible that it gave me a headache. Too much saffron ruins it for me

share

Scentsitivewoman05

For all the hype it gets.. underwhelming to find how it plays on my skin and fabric. Picture this: you jave band-aid, not the water resistant one, just the regular skin color band aid, you spray eau duelle edp from 10 cm away, you put that band aid on your skin for 15 minutes, then rip it, smell the center part of the band aid, there you have how YSL babycat smell.

Faint vanilla, not spicy, not incense-y, just medicinal band aid with a hint of vanilla.

Projection and longevity is moderate in humid warm city.

Thank god I bought only the decant 10ml, I am sure this is redundant if you already have eau duelle dyptique.

This made me an instant Dominique Ropion fan. Just as addictive and alluring as RM5.

This is so beautiful and refined.. yet so close to the skin that I don’t really enjoy it. So sad. My new favorite bedtime perfume I suppose. Just wish it projected. Back to the drawing board.

I absolutely adore this. The olibanum in the opening is my favorite part because I love churchy smells. Sweet vanilla + church incense, what more could I want? It's out of my price range though, so I got the Dua dupe which is spot on.

share

vixxiimcmlxxxvii

Maybe it’s because I’ve (thankfully) only ever truly been to church a handful of times aside from attending AA meetings, but I don’t get the church-thing. Peppery vanilla’d leather. So sexy, and very much not for everyone—not for most, even. But this is absolutely how I want my vanilla; non-gourmand, smoooooth, deep/dark, and not necessarily the main character. So good!!!!!!!!!! Not much else to say, Bilal’s review threw me off, lol

the perfect smokey vanilla -- I just wish it wasn't priced at what it was because I would stock up on an endless supply

share

Itcannotalwaysbenight

This one is a firecracker- a very spirited vanilla fragrance that is nuclear and sweet... If you're a gourmand vanilla lover, this is probably not a safe scent for you. I have noticed that most people seeking out a vanilla-forward fragrance really don't enjoy Babycat. Babycat is better suited for the edgy crowd that don't mind smoky, boozy, ultra sweet vanillas.

The opening is a bizarre blast of sugar, gasoline, and pepper. Just when you're overwhelmed with what seems like a never ending opening, it balances out beautifully with the base notes shining through- particularly the cedar. The cedar is not medicinal at all, it is reminiscent of an old wood wardrobe. There's also something that makes this feel boozy on your skin- like a sweet and smoky aged whiskey. Could be the smokiness of pepper and the sweetness of the vanilla flirting together?

Personally, I believe this leans feminine particularly on the dry-down as the sweetness does not fade. If you're in the USA, it is worth the slight mark-up from resellers- though I would not pay beyond $350 for this... you might as well hop on over to the Guerlain L'art & La Matiere line for a spirited vanilla fragrance at that price point.

Lastly, this is NUCLEAR. Do not spray this unless you want to smell it for days!

share

fangirleche

My goodness this is a magical scent. You get an initial hit of the leather but then you smell that delicious, almost creamy vanilla, but not lactonic. It’s so addictive, I wish I could say it’s worth the crazy price due to it being hard to find. Alas I appreciate the decant of it I have. I recommend the Dua brand and Dapper dupes of Babycat, those come suuuuper close to this.

Sweet and very spicy vanilla. Didn’t like it much initially but now it’s my favorite vanilla.

share

I love it. Like a hug in front of a fireplace. To me it smells like dry wood and warm spices in cozy mountain house. It’s quiet, it’s snowing outside and you are sitting on a leather chair in your most comfortable state of mind.
At the background you can feel the smell of freshly baked vanilla cake. Coziness in a bottle.

share

tessture

Maybe my sample has aged? I didn't want to like this because I agree that it's madly overhyped and it's so ridiculously priced it's laughable, but I do like it. The onset of spiky peppers, resins and wood is definitely rocky but not unpleasant, and the dry down on me is a truly delicious vanilla. That all being said, it's NOT worth the prices I'm seeing online. Not remotely. It's lovely but it's not different enough from many other scents to make it worth money better spent on your car payment or your rent. Or three months' food bills for a family of three. Geez. Where do these prices come from? Full dry down is very comparable (I have both on right now) to Farmacia SS Annunziata's Cara, but with an added dry leather subnote. On me, it's very wearable, and I am hyper sensitive to strongly woody/ spiky amber notes. This has none of those and I don't get gasoline or horrific clashing. But the pricing puts my back up and I'm digging in my heels on this one.

Spicy dark vanilla with a hot vinyl note.
Sugary vanillas are not my favorites but it is dark enough to make it work in a elegant way.
Babycat is the girl you meet and instantly makes you feel confident, her caracter is wild and warm. Sunshine of the nighlife.
This stays on forever, I put it on 18h ago for a party and it is still strongly present in my hair and leaves a sillage.

share

SmellGood_Chi

It's giving gasoline. I have no idea why my nose is not loving this when I thought based on the notes alone that I would fall head over heels in love with it, and everyone else seems to love it. But, nope. I've tried and tried and tried...and it's giving doused-in-gasoline. A sharpness that never settles down and a Chevron-smell that never goes away. I'm glad I did not drop $500 in the secondary market for this and settled for a good decant instead. Sadly, Babycat is a hard no.

share

mobbrain

I bought this from a YSL boutique in Taipei for around 230 USD. It opens with a super sweet, almost vanilla extract like vanilla, and then dries into a spicy incence leathery vanilla that is just so good. I think that this is perfectly unisex. It is a little to spicy to be a women's perfume, but a little to sweet to be a mens cologne. I really like the way it smells, but it definitely won't work on everyone.

Uhm i live in asia so getting this fragrance is EXTREMELY HARD for me. I don't know why this is not accessible to asia region (ended up got it thru personal shopper service)
The first spray : i was hit with incense. Straight incense for prayer haha -_- dry down to an incense + natural vanilla. I don't get the hype. I've smell way better fragrance, this is not unique at all.
Avoid wearing this at all cost in hot weather, give me headache.

share

btd069

This gives me vibes similar to Replica Whispers In The Library but more complex & slightly more Middle Eastern vibe. It has some similar notes such as Black Pepper, Vanilla & Cedar. This is way more complex with the resinous with leathery notes (suede & saffron) and also has a slightly more balsamic quality. While I very much enjoy this and think it smells really good, I can't justify the price this is being sold. Very good fragrance, but very overhyped IMO. Don't regret it, but would not re-purchase as I think its overpriced.

Creamy_ambrette

Anyone curious about Fragrance World Rifaaqat, I tested them out and here are my thoughts:
I have 5ml decant of Babycat and the FB of Rifaaqat.
2 sprays of each on opposite wrist.
They both have amazing longevity and projection.

Babycat has a very dense vanilla that creates a bubble around you throughout the wear, Rifaaqat doesn’t create that same vanilla experience.
Rifaaqat it’s slightly more woody (pencil shavings but I like it)
However, Rifaaqat has the same spicy, black pepper slightly animalic olibanum (frankincense to my nose) opening and softens; becoming a suede-like vanilla.
Rifaaqat is not as smooth and vanillic as Babycat. That’s wearing them side by side.

When I wore Rifaaqat alone ——it smelled just like what I remembered Babycat to smell like.
I do think with time, the vanilla in Rifaaqat will develop more and become as rich and dense as the OG. I think it’s a fantastic dupe and worth it especially if under $45
I hope that helps :)

My signature for a reason

Opens up with a pepper note that makes this scent masculine but balances out the sweetness of the gorgeous vanilla note. As it dries down, the luxurious leather note comes through and I can also smell more of the resins. the vanilla smells like homemade vanilla extract, which is balanced with the leather note. I totally don't get the church incense/smoky note that some comments mention. This is just an incredible luxurious vanilla fragrance.

For performance, I get around 10-12 hours of moderate projection, which is perfect for the scent profile of this fragrance. I had to buy a whole bottle of it at the ysl boutique for the equivalent of 300euros, Which is honestly good value.

OMG, this is incredible! It's an absolute powerhouse, like nothing I've ever experienced. Easily one of the top fragrances I've ever come across. I'm so obsessed with it, I could practically swim in it!

Coming from a modern nondenominational christian church, I do not make the connection to church with this scent. I get a warm spiced incense and rich vanilla and I love it. It is comforting and addictive to me, and the dry down is indeed very sexy.

I was afraid I wouldn't like this because I really could not fall for RM5. The leather was just too heavy, and the blend wasn't aromatic enough to make it wearable. Babycat, on the otherhand, allows the leather to play the background. That is, in RM5 the leather cushion IS the art, whereas in Babycat, the leather cushion holds the art. It is the perfect placement to give a soft edginess to this scent, adding depth where spices could become screechy.

This is full bottle worthy for me, and I could see myself wearing this as an after hours scent year round. I can see the incense cutting through cold, and the vanilla pulling golden in the warmth... particularly high heat would be a no, however.

I understand why this is a polarizing scent. Please sample first. And if you are incense averse, please skip.

share

ayarossx

Offensively horrible in a shocking way. Shocking because its hyped and shocking that people actually like and wear it near other people. Those were my initial thoughts said out loud so dont get offended please. It smells like sauna stones after you pour them with water. Something that should not be an actual perfume

share

valentina.marini

this ain't a perfume, it's a smell. church incense base, a pinch of asphalt, sprinkled with musty leather. the hype machine was at its full speed on this one

share

FragranceRain

To me this is a wearable version of Dior Privee Féve Delicieuse. Same kind of dusty, old fashion, mature scent. Deep and complex. An untrained nose which is more familiar with the easier designer scents cannot easily understand these fragrances. Personally I cannot see what is sexy about this scent. It lacks the energy of youth. But it is mature and kind of comforting, slightly serious. I was ready to pay the full price because of the hype, thank god I managed to find a decant. Maybe I can appreciate this scent profile more as I get mature, but for now I guess I'm drawn to more sugary, more simple scents.

share

This scent made me nauseated- it smells like leather initially for me and then it turns into incense. Absolutely nothing but incense in a mosque- not a pleasant reminder for me , nor something I want to ever smell like. Not for me at all. There's a tonne of better smelling vanillas and leathers out there. A hard pass.

has the same overplayed cold-sweet vanilla note found in diptyque eau duelle, byredo g* water, mfk gentle fluidity gold etc except made naaaaarstyyyy with the leather. which doesn't smell like leather to me, more like a pad of kraft paper. the two do not play well together at all. for $400? highway robbery

Whoever is down voting Shams Dubai as smelling disimmilar either hasn't actually smelled it or is grumpy about the idea of any budget fragrance smelling as good as their precious. I can attest to how identical they smell. I owned both but have since sold Babycat because it was redundant in my collection. Seriously, they're 99.5% the same.

share

LootCeption

I've tried to like this, I really did but all I get is burnt vanilla on top of more burnt vanilla from top to drydown. Based on what others are saying and reviews this is the holy grail of sexy. And it's being compared to the smell of a church?? I honestly want to know if women actually find this sexy or not, because I've never walked into a church and said "Man it smells sexy in here!"

share

Nocciola23

I was hesitant to try this because I really hated Rosendo Mateu no. 5 - but this is quite different to my nose.
The smoky, churchy smell that others describe here is real. The combination of leather and vanilla give it an incense accord that is reminiscent of Lattafa's Raghba (for women).

This is nice enough as a winter scent, but I find myself scratching my head at the influencers' description of this being super 'sexy'. The vanilla in it is sweet in a way that is almost childlike. A saccharine sweet, cotton candy vanilla that is mixed with expensive leather.
The result is really incongruous and jarring.

I mean, it's worth trying but I wouldn't recommend buying a full bottle without testing.

Liturgical vanilla tar. I have a couple of decants and have been trying to determine how to feel about Babycat for over a year now. I thought I loved it at first, and I kind of DO love it, as an idea, just not on me. It is not easy to wear. It’s not loud, but it does last a very long time and sometimes it seems to suck the air out of the room, regardless of temperature. I live in a humid climate in the American south, and would not even consider wearing this in the summer. I try it out every so often and sometimes it’s awesome, other times it’s nauseating and goes to my head like city bus exhaust.

Rosendo Mateau is very similar, but extremely musky. Vanagloria is basically a dupe by the same perfumer, but is a little lighter on the tar-like accord, and I find it a bit more wearable.

Hi, I'm trying to figure out by reading the reviews and looking at the notes etc. is this SMOKY at all? Is there any note of smoke/a burnt smell lingering? The mention of burnt rubber is giving me some idea, and I'm not sure is my brain going the right direction. Or is there any type of "church smell" smoke, maybe if I put it that way?

Babycat has a nice peppery sweet opening. I quite love it. This is imo one of the best unisex vanilla scented fragrances. It's pure luxury to my nose. The small flashes of leather are also divine. This is gonna most definitely be a full bottle purchase for me.

Babycat is a lovely dry, rich vanilla with an air of spice hovering atop it. I do not get any animalics here at all.
Imo, it smells close to Rosendo Mateu No. 5 in the air but is warmer, denser and more delicious up close. As is the case with RM No. 5, Babycat also reminds me loosely of TM Pure Malt in the air, only much less synthetic.

I slightly prefer Babycat's scent profile over RM No. 5's, but at almost half the price point, slightly superior performance & with much better availability, the latter makes more sense for most, imo.

However, both are unisex and work really well.

I'll admit, after being down this rabbit hole for as long as I have, I'm finding vanilla a bit boring. I'm always looking for a more interesting vanilla, and Babycat is exactly what I've been looking for. This is a woody vanilla - not so gourmand, with tender little claws of pink and black pepper and Olibanum, purring with suede. This is soooo gooood. I'm actually going to say it - I think I might be loving this more than Raghba. EDIT to add - the little claws retracted completely in the dry down, but it's still a lovely vanilla!

share

ETA: this is bee-you-tea-full on skin!!! Glad I didn’t judge it by performance on paper test strip.

Whoo boy. I blind-bought this after searching for a suede note unisex fragrance. Thought the name was cute as heck and it seemed highly loved by many, so I pulled the trigger. Granted, I haven't tried it on my skin yet, but in the bottle it is POWERFULLY sweet. Much more vanilla-forward than I expected. It's only a decant of a few mls, so I'm not out a ton if I can't tolerate it, but I haven't worked up the courage to put it on yet. She's a powerful little beast. And I'm not a big fan of dominantly sweet fragrances in general. Hopefully she's tamer on my skin. Wish me luck!

Chocolate incense stick...
Babycat, to me, is straight-up chocolate incense stick.

It's actually quite a lot less sophisticated than I would have expected; it has a hippyish feel to it, which is uncomfortable given the price point and expectations set.

I'm glad I just bought a sample of this. It absolutely does not hold a candle to Libre to me in terms of power, class, sexiness, or sophistication. With Libre the impact was immediate. I hate to say it, but Babycat smells overall cheaper.

I just don't know where or how I'd wear this - which occasion to wear it to. It's weird. It is a weird smell. I can't think of an occasion in which I'd like to smell like chocolate incense stick. The drydown didn't even alter much on my skin throughout the day or offer much more complexity other than a slight powderiness. I won't be buying more Babycat..

The name is adorable, though.

Smells very similar to Maison Margiela by the fireplace, like 70 percent similar. upon first smell those were my immediate thoughts but this smells very nice but wouldn't say it's worth the price tag and a bit overhyped

If you have a bottle or partial and want to swap (I have over 150 fragrances) or sell (for less than I can get on Mercari or eBay a reasonable price) please message me.
I have Vanagloria which is babycat without the peppery opening (which I really like) Ishq Al Shuyhuk is yummy but it doesn’t smell like babycat or Vanagloria, just the same sort of vibe - an avant guard suede-like vanilla “petrol” or “rubber tyre” note with strong amber dry down. I like the quirky rubber note and it’s a fantastic fragrance with amazing longevity but it not babycat.
I ordered Rifaqaat because I need to know if it’s a close shoe! Paris corner makes some amazing dupes: their frenetic Deliceuse is very, very close to Feve Delicieuse which I have a 250 Ml bottle of! I’ll update after I get Rifaqaat with a comparison

Talk about frustrating. Got this directly from France for my husband with itention of using it myself on occasion, but sadly, Babycat hates my guts.It doesn't linger on my skin longer than 5 minutes before it vanishes forever, on my husband it stays for 3-4 hours, which is utterly disappointed for the price. Mediocre performance and that is putting it mildly. I also expected something utterly mind blowing, judging by the reviews, but to my surprise, Babycat smells 90% similar to Deliria, which has monstruous performance for fraction of the price.
So here we have something that would be really nice fume, if it had ability to stay around and commit to one's skin. Only it doesn't. Makes me reminisce about all other perfumes i could have gotten instead :(

This is one of the best things I have ever smelled, bar none. And I am a Fraghead to the fullest- example: I blind bought Angelique Noir which we know is close to $500. I live and breathe for niche and lux fragrances.

This is top notch, “I am classy and rich” luxury. I’m convinced that anyone who doesn’t like this, does not have a trained nose. They most likely like generic, designer vanillas. This is pure class. Thank you YSL 🙌🏼

The pepper opening is a little challenging for me, but I DO NOT CARE. This is lovely. Not too sweet, but a super sexy grown up vanilla. I've been loving deep dark vanilla scents lately and this is the perfect add to my collection.

Edit: Oh my word, this is still so so beautiful! The opening that was challenging initially, is now my favorite part. I need more fragrances this stunning!

So unique in the best way. Warm but not too warm, sultry yet a little fresh. As someone who finds most fragrances from a chain drug store repulsive, this is not cloying or sweet, when you smell it you want to lean into it. It's definitely a scent for a special occasion and evenings. Amazing.

share

LostSock

I've worn this a few times since buying it and I'm still not getting the pepper at all. I get strong chocolate/cacao vibes off it initially, then loads of vanilla with a dark wood and something fruity, quite cherry like. It's a gorgeous scent though, very moreish and makes me want to keep sniffing it. Date night stuff for sure. I had it on yesterday and I threw on a hoodie I'd had on the night before when wearing Tobacco Vanille, and the two scents merging was heavenly.

I tried the sample few times, you only need few sprays to smell it everywhere. I still have half of it and I’m not going to use it anymore. I just don’t get it. It’s just pepper and vanilla and leather in the worst combination. It gives me a headache every time and makes me nauseous. I don’t understand the hype. I feel this is like the Hermes bag, hard to find, but it’s actually nothing special. I sneezed so many times while wearing it, I made myself wear it for a day and I regret trying every time. It’s a no for me.

share

Thatbwoy

I am surprised!

Yep! I bought into the hype and ordered a sample. I o know what it was but my birthday passed and though I had got some very thoughtful presents from my Wife and daughter, I wanted to spoil myself with a fragrance purchase.

I had a list of contenders. This was on the list; along with six others.

That list now just those six others.

I don’t get it, I get the hype, I understand that but the level of hype is really unwarranted. I have to think that YSL must have the best PR and marketing team as the last few I have retired from them have been mediocre pongs. I really thought this was going to be difficult decision but it was almost instantaneous.

The sweetness is very cloying and thick. I can feel my teeth itch from the vanilla; which affects everything else. It gives the leather a stickiness that is not appealing. It’s like someone has left a tub of cheap ice cream to melt over a synthetic leather car seat. I’m not a vanilla fan, if it’s in a fragrance for me to like it; it has to be toned down and dried out. This is all to familiar and part of me was kinda expecting it; “I bet that’s similar to X” And I’m not wrong it is similar to ‘X’.

Shane really as I was hoping it would make a great gift to someone really dear and special to me.

Oh…custard creams. This makes me think of custard creams. I am not a fan of them.

A very unique and sophisticated vanilla-suede-incense scent. Vanilla note here is not an edible-warm-sweet one but something hidden, tough and way cooler. I gifted it to my husband and he says this is a spicy-leather scent, he says where is vanilla? Yet we both find it very attractive and sexy.

@Guccipordior: I agree with your comment. An impressive alternative to Babycat YSL:

Rifaaqat by Paris Corner Perfumes is a magnificent discovery. It's 95% similar to the Babycat YSL, but it's less leathery which I really like.

Top notes: Elemi, Pink pepper, Black pepper
*Heart notes: Saffron, Frankincense
Base notes: Vanilla, Cedarwood

*The heart notes are sublime!

It has become a strong addiction and I wear it at night...

I love vanilla notes. But I don’t always (actually rarely) want them to smell edible. I much prefer my vanilla roughed up a bit (Eau Duelle EDT or EDP) or sweet but not gourmand (Spiritueuse Double Vanille).

Babycat is a roughed up vanilla. It opens with the black pepper note and settles into a refined, sexy, almost subtle vanilla. But even at the base, the vanilla is edgier due to its pairing with suede and cedar.

This is a sophisticated vanilla fragrance. She’s a cool girl.

If you are like me, you may want to know how this compares to Vanagloria. I own both perfumes so I can say to my nose, Vanagloria is “rougher” opening almost petrol smelling but it softens in to a louder, more pronounced vanilla note. She’s a cool girl too…she’s louder and has a lot to say.

To me, the vanilla in Babycat is softer, a bit more subdued.

I love both perfumes. To me, they are different enough to justify (if you’re a vanilla obsessed person like me) getting both. I think they are siblings. Vanagloria is not a dupe.

If you can’t find Babycat, I’d say Vanagloria is a great place to go. They do become more similar at the drydown but again, Babycat is more sophisticated to my nose.

@SandyToess

Rifaqaat is better, very close to Babycat IMO, just not as high quality but scent profile is extremely close on the dry down. Opening is a little bit more peppery. Dry down is Babycat, 95%. Lattafa isn't as good imo. Doesn't have as much of a Babycat vibe. I think its more of a Mateu No 5 clone. Get Rifaqaat before it gets scarce

I come here again to write a review now as the proud owner of this beauty😁
I was lucky to purchase it for a pretty good (still also pretty high) price but I could not have resisted it.
Imagining exotic babycat fur being mixed with rainy jungle, cigarettes and lot of vanilla from all the ladies who hugged her throughout the night. It’s heavy toffee vanilla with something dirty in it. In the beginning the perfume is quite strong and sweet, still very much recognizable after 30-40mins, in few hours it becomes more intimate smokey vanilla and then at the end of the day it just leaves a sweet skin scent. It’s beautiful 😍

SandyToess

Please, can someone compare Rifaaqat to Ishq Al Shuyukh Gold Lattafa, I have the latter and just wondering if I should get Rifaaqat too? I don't like that rubber aspect in Ishq but I feel that the DNA is beautiful, is Rifaaqat much cleaner and nicer? I have never smelt Babycat but I know they are all dupes.

Peppery deep almost bourbon-y incense-y vanilla. I can see how if you're sensitive to pepper you might be bothered by it in this, but I looooooove babycat. I don't like super sweet cotton candy sugary type vanillas, but this is deeper and more mature than generic vanillas. Initial application is a spicy vanilla saffron but the spice definitely smoothes itself out. An hour or so in it's a warm suede-y vanilla.

My favorite vanilla is Nirvana Bourbon by Elizabeth and James (which I've heard is a dupe for Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille) and that one is a very dry woody bourbon vanilla that some people say smells like pencil shavings. This is definitely sweeter and more resinous and not as dry, but still interesting due to the incense and pepper notes! Really nice fragrance, I could see me using this for layering when I want to add a non sweet vanilla to a fragrance (Si Intense original formula is my sweet vanilla of choice).

share

EmysFrag

Gawjuss! They've started restocking this in my country, I had to snatch a bottle. It's not a super sweet gourmand vanilla, it's much more boozy and deep.

If you like deeper vanilla scents like MFKs Grand Soir, Montales Arabians Tonka or Kayalis Vanilla Royale, you'd likely enjoy Babycat!

share

Kasia_R

I wanted it for sooo long and now I am just not in love with it. It is very peppery on my skin so I can only layer it with something sweeter.

Too bad.

I have this and really enjoy it.
A few years ago I bought a fragrance by Pierre guillaume called La Nuit de l’orchidee because it was supposed to smell like Cierge de lune and when it arrived I couldn’t get the similarity at all but it was still very nice however I was so focussed on Cierge that I kind of forgot about it.
I bought Babycat mainly because of the hype and I was pleased that it was worthy and enjoy wearing it.
Here’s where my meandering story comes together, I sprayed La Nuit on this morning because I hadn’t worn it for a couple years and it was looking so proud even though neglected and I am now on my way to work in the train and I can’t help but be reminded of Babycat. They are both spicy, vanillary, elegant suedy with La Nuit being more restrained.
They are both refined and quality fragrances so if you enjoy Babycat and missed the boat see if you can sample La Nuit de l’Orchidee.

Couldn't get a full bottle of Babycat so I bought a decant to compare. Love the smell so I went on a smell alike search...

Rosendo Mateu No. 5 - Similar in the opening and that's it
ISHQ AL SHUYUKH Gold - Very similar to Mateu No.5. Similar to Babycat in the opening and that's it.
Paris Corner Atoof - Very similar to Mateu No.5. Similar to Babycat in the opening and that's it.
Paris Corner Rifaaqat - 85% similar. Love this one.
ARABIYAT Nayel Queen - 98% similar. I can't believe how close this is!!! No need for the original.

share

CrisMS

Yes it's as good as everyone says, however almost identical with Vanilla Barka attar by Amouage and
Vanagloria by Laboratorio Olfattivo - same perfumer for all 3!
Not as similar with Rosendo #5 actually, just a similar vibe in the opening. Worth getting both if you enjoy the scent profile.
For me, Babycat opens with a blast of pepper, almost medicinal feel and quickly settles into a deep sueded vanilla with the smoothest resin throughout. Great performance. Overpriced as most recent designer releases.
Sad that Vanagloria only got the appreciation after the comparison with Babycat.
Look at the price difference between the two: it's ALL in the brand name, otherwise identical scents.

Later edit: just saw a video of Mona Kattan rating this as a 5/10.
The woman behind the cheapest quality and most ridiculously priced brand said this about one of Dominic Ropion's best creations.
The nerve LOL

soy_dos_gatos

It's perfect. For me, it's a delicious and perfect blend of vanilla and leather, spicy and strong. It's sexy and interesting, perfectly unisex—both men and women exude sexiness with this fragrance. Also, it's unique; I don't feel like there are many people who smell like this.

Also, I want to say (maybe even warn you) the sillage and longevity are beast mode: don't overspray because not only can it be too much for the people around you, it can also be overwhelming for you. Speaking of longevity, the last time I used it, I sprayed this on me after my morning shower, changed clothes three times during the day, and not only did I smell it until the next day, but my clothes still smelled like Baby Cat.

Conclusion: If you're considering buying this, stop, just buy it! You will not regret it!

A lovely creamy vanilla incense. Easy to wear and extremely addictive. I blind bought this based on the notes and the reviews and I am delighted. I’m a fan of YSL and this is really a fabulous cosy addition to my collection.

Absolutely stunning fragrance! I’m a huge vanilla fan so I decided to risk it with a blind buy.

Babycat is so delicious smelling yet not a gourmand scent, it manages to keep the perfect balance between bourbon vanilla & suede. The quality is top notch, you truly get what you pay for with this one.

I totally get the comparisons with Magnificent Gold (which I use to own), difference being Babycat smells much more refined and indulgent.

100% worth the hype in my opinion.

It's a cool autumn evening in Santa Fe. You're snuggled in front of a burning chiminea, skin soft with amber lotion and wrapped in your partner's worn leather jacket. As the fire dies and you finish your last sip of a smoked vanilla old fashioned, someone lights incense nearby...

Babycat started with a blast of suede and black pepper on me, then quickly morphed into a campfire amber. Boozy vanilla made a fleeting appearance before incense mingled in and became the last whisper of scent.

This fragrance immediately reminded me of Parfum D'Empire's Ambre Russe. But where Ambre Russe is the roaring and echoing lioness of boozy, smoky ambers, Babycat is, well, a softly meowing kitten. Babycat is a perfect every day alternative to Ambre Russe, which I can only pull off for an ultra cold evening occasion.

Babycat is quietly elegant, yet still cozy and sensual. It gives off a stealth wealth cashmere sweater vibe. Unfortunately, it has zero staying power on me. I'd consider picking up a bottle if it were more widely available, but the poor longevity deters me from making the effort to buy it. Still, it's lovely.

share

flugsang

Amazing okay so I've reviewed Vanagloria before Babycat and I find super interesting how both these scents are actually to me veeery similar. Vanagloria's got a bit more heft and commitment to this direction of vanilla while Babycat sits more lightly on my skin and kinda stops midway when it did the job already. For me Babycat ended on the pepper while Vanagloria takes you further into the incense and vanilla.

The two together are fascinating scents to go over because I just learned that it's also by the same perfumer. It's cool how the two scents are written differently but you get some similarities from people's feedback (particularly churchy incense.) On YSL's site Babycat's inspiration came from a bold, punk leopard coat while Vanagloria's goal is to bring forward the different facets of vanilla with an added tinge of mystique from the incense.

This was the first perfume I ever blind bought, and I thought I would be safe because of the endless hype I heard about it. I wanted soooo bad to love this one, but I am finding it difficult to get past the opening. To my nose, it comes off very rubber-esque, almost plasticy and u hardly get any vanilla until after it dries down. I enjoy it more layering it with something sweeter. I think I need to let it sit a few rounds out before I get it back in the game.

Amazing smoky vanilla scent with suede giving this really cozy and smooth feel.
One year ago I tried this and fell in love with it, but it wasn't in stock at that time.
So i just went and got myself a bottle of Vanagloria which was a great replacement for Babycat and I enjoyed wearing it very much.
But now i got myself a bottle of this beauty a couple of months ago.
I find this one overall smoother and better blended even tho both are created by Dominique Ropion, he probably did this one a bit better 😉
Both are great but i'll choose this one any day over the latter.

I get a lot of incense-y vanilla, which I assume is the work of the pepper mix and suede in the base. Very sweet, vanilla and amber, but sophisticated and seductive. A very sexy fragrance, with a unique profile. I really liked it even if I really don't like spices. However, is it something wearable? Not as much, more for special occasions, so I would not buy the full size given the hefty price point. Another con is that it depends how it sits on your skin. My nose picks up more the vanilla, saffron, amber and suede, but there is a ton of pepper as the top notes, so it might not sit well on all people. I liked this way more than Coromandel from Chanel, which is something similar in vibes and price point, but not quite the same. Coromandel was too old-lady to me, while YSL babycat is more seductive and wearable. Idk, depends on what notes you like really.

Delicious and seductive vanilla. The leathery note lends a kinda smoky vibe to it. I enjoy this, and will use up a sample. But I already have similar vibe fragrances to wear.

share

RayCashhhh

This smells good but it has a very mature profile. It needs to be dressed up for this to be pulled off. The incense and strong presence of suede/leather makes this lean toward masculine for me, which isn't a problem but you have to be a very confident lady to wear to this IMO. I find this an Absolute Aphrodisiac by Initio to be of the same ilk, though I prefer the latter over Babycat. Because of this, I'll use my decant up of this and nothing more. It is worth sampling, wouldn't blind buy it however, especially at the price. 7.5/10

This has a difficult to stand opening, especially at first now I’m kinda getting used to it. The mid and dry down are quite literally magical! This is the most addicting vanilla that doesn’t smell like straight up vanilla I have ever tried. It’s very unique to me. At least I haven’t smelled anything like it and I have RM no 5 and it smells nothing like this to me. I absolutely love this. It lasts forever on my skin and clothes and the bubble is suffocating in the best way possible like a lover who holds you tight and always sticks close to you.
Now that I mention lover, it’s kind of sexual.
RM no 5, initio AA, Bois Dore, silky woods, and Ani- all my beautiful and sexual vanillas and now this, welcome Babycat!

I get a simple airy and dusty character from it that is dominated by suede & vanilla. I can see this on a simple young professional woman or a man in grey pea coat with leather boots. It leaves pleasant scent trail that is like static vanilla.

bleh. another one i wanted to love. i don't know if the notes just don't work well with my skin but it turned kind of disgusting?? after the long wait for the battle of spices and suede to subside, the creamy gorgeous vanilla i had been promised was just not there. it isn't sweet, it isn't rich, it's just synthetic nothingness. the dua clone i own is shockingly wayyy better in every aspect it seems.

Beautiful suede and vanilla but nothing that exciting at the price point. Not comparable to Vanagloria which is plastic/rubber/cheap vanilla candles mess :/ YSL knows their leather so well. Ropion did the best he could for both but for Vanagloria the lack of quality ingredients is brutally felt (or smelled).

A sample of this arrived at the same time as my bottle of Bvlgari Le Gemme ‘Orom’, interestingly they smell quite similar in their profile 🤔. I smell hints of the since discontinued ‘Magnificent Gold’, with more leather and tingling spice here. It smells great honestly, when I first applied it I got the incense from Gucci ‘A Midnight Stroll’ mixed with ‘Magnificent Gold’…no chance anyone will think you smell bad with this one! I’ll have to test further to see if it can stand alone next to ‘Orom’….

Comes off with a lot of amber, a little vanilla, and something baby powder-esque. Might be the suede. So powdery amber with some vanilla is mostly what I get. Took a while to get used to, but enjoying it more as I work through the sample.

My beloved bourbon vanilla pods and gentle suede. It’s not too much leathery just a wee bit. It’s more spicy and very vanilla perfume. Smells exactly like slightly smoked bourbon vanilla pods with a sweet resinous dairy shade. Exceptionally pleasant and warm. Easy to wear. Absolutely love it in a cold season.

Well I bought a large enough decant to give it a good try. Even though the vanilla in the fragrance is quite nice, the Olibanum and the Elemi just don't work for me. Yes, I know that this is supposed to be a complex fragrance, hence the price point, but even though I enjoy eclectic and unusual perfumes, this one is not working for me. a mix of a beautiful caramelized vanilla with something that could be interpreted like a strong Cashmeran base. Glad I got a decant.

Seriously, how can anyone like this? I was so excited to try this because I love vanilla, but to me it smells REVOLTING. It smells dirty - like a mix between vanilla and the dirt you’d find under a car (rubber / carborundum) 🤮🤮🤮. That just about seals it for me - I REALLY DON’T LIKE YSL perfumes.

**EDIT** This bastard is actually growing on me. It still smells like carborundum, but the vanilla is strong and I love the bottle. I'm giving it another go - just ordered a 10ml decant. We will see - I'll keep you posted.

This was so different from my other scents in how it performed. I had a sample and liked it, so when I bought the bottles in Harrods last week, I couldn't wait to try it. It was cold in Wales yesterday, so I used the opportunity to wear Babycat.

I really oversprayed, not realising how much of a strong girl this is. So, I felt quite choked out by it and immediately thought I made an expensive mistake. The scent was very leathery and smokey incense to start. When I went outside, it reminded me of my other perfume By the Fireplace Maison Martin Margiela but more powerful, dryer and less sweet. I wanted to add something pretty to it because it was coming off too masculine for me, but I waited.

This all changed after the 30-minute drive and walking around with the smells coming from the Christmas stalls and the people outside.

It was as if the cat had started purring because she was in the right spot, she needs to be outside during the opening and allowed back inside a little later.

I swear the vanilla broke out like a warm yummy, comforting hug, still dry, but the smokiness was perfect, it was a kiss on the vanilla and it made it so comforting. This is a grower, it's much like a cat you don't know, seems to require some time and practice to fully understand and appreciate it.

Less is really more, and I swear you will be nose-diving into your sweater after an hour or less once you get tuned in. This is perplexing because the opening was a total paw swipe, but now, she is purring in my lap, and I love it. She stayed like this for a good 10 hours +.

The person wearing this knows who they are; they are confident, happy in the cold and outside, cosy and warm on the inside, and make you feel quite safe. Enjoy if you can. I hope the supply picks up for those who can appreciate this gorgeous scent.

Was able to snag this for $350 on fragranceL and was thrilled. Had to work thanksgiving and. Wore it for a treat. A treat it was not dried down to a harsh spicy mess. Almost repulsive. Heavy, harsh and off putting of course I got wisps of it for 13 hrs. It’s a scrubber.
I had bought Vanagloria a dupe which I love. Wish I had wore it.
I’ll give it another try but not in public.

Thought I was going to love this, but I don’t. It’s really smokey and leathery to me, which normally isn’t a problem, but in here it makes me nauseous (call me crazy but I get a bbq smell). It’s like incense and suede were added to the airy Eau Duelle (EDT) to make it thick and heavy. I can see why it reminds some people of Lune Feline, but I like that one way more due to the cinnamon and cardamom.

Reading some reviews my expectation was very 'confused'. I knew its gonna stink or blow me away. Tried it just because of the name; Baby cat , that's the most adorable name I ever heard for a perfume.
If they named it kitten or little kitten or little cat , it wouldn't have been this cute.

I am getting notes of Vanilla, olibanum & something chocolaty/coffee . Cacao is not there in the notes but I am getting it.
Spoilers Ya I absolutely love this scent.
I haven't rooted for a sent because of its name since kilian dark lord which was a disappointment, but this time the scent & the name is adorable.

Some people are making comments that it smells like burnet electronics, & I understand where they are coming from.
When I was a kid I used to visit the electronics factory that my dad worked in. The smell of soldering of circuit board is very characteristic & this scent do have some similarities. However, soldering is an obnoxious smell, but this one is really pleasant, so there is enough difference to save baby cat from burnt wires.

I have the itch so bad to buy this fragrance but unfortunately this is not available in the U.S. and there's no way I'm paying these shameless resell prices. Babycat to me is a very vanillic and suede-dominant fragrance with these notes balancing each other beautifully which allows some of the other supporting notes such as pepper to also come through. As someone who loves clones I've tried multiple for this fragrance and they just aren't doing it for me sadly. I swear I'm about to book a flight to Canada and buy it there instead of giving money to the scalpers.

This does not work on my skin at all. I get a very strong smell of gasoline for about two hours before it disperses to something more palatable. That is just too long. Luckily I only got a 5ml decant.

SaraSmellsGood

Just tested it today.. and it’s worth the hype in my opinion! Smells so classy, luxurious and just beautiful. That incensy smell mixed with the vanilla gave it a cross between Arab/ French perfumes and that’s my preference honestly 🤩 so it’s perfect for me 🫶🏽 just know that when you wear it you’re going to smell like an Arab royalty in my opinion, an Arab that’s living in France halftime lol

Perhaps my fragrance nose is not mature enough, it’s giving burnt rubber. I do pick up the incense, vanilla (not a sweet vanilla), burnt leather/suede.

Like smelling an old leather chair in a cigar room..

I must say it is a very smooth fragrance, so perhaps I need more time to appreciate it, weirdly I do want to keep smelling my arm 😂

I finally got my hands on a decant of this. I wanted to see what the hype was about, and I definitely understand why. It's a dry vanilla with a soft luxurious suede and saffron with a bit of peppery notes. It's GORGEOUS! And to me it's completely unisex. It's not a sickly sweet vanilla by any means, this is truly sophisticated and grown up. Really fancy. The only thing is it's availability. It's really hard to get a hold of, which is a huge shame since a lot of people want this really bad. This could be my signature scent if I just could get bottles of it. I hope they make it a lot more available, it's such a good scent.

Babycat is the mysterious sex symbol in the middle of the room that captivates all the men. Sophia Loren, Anna Nicole Smith, Marilyn Monroe. It’s definitely a nighttime date night scent. It’s got a vanilla church incense note that is spectacular. It’s extremely hard to find and very expensive. Vangloria is in my opinion 99% the same scent. So if you can’t find Babycat, try vangloria. I have both and love both but they are not signature scents or daytime scents at least in my opinion.

Maria Martha

I am not surprised that Babycat has been created by Dominique Ropion. I like most of his fragrances (at least most of the ones I know). The babycat is no exception. Thankfully, I do not get any of the sneezy qualities of pepper. Instead, it is just enough pepper to balance out the vanilla. The elemi, olibanum, and cedar add a balsamic depth, and the suede notes remind us that the cute adorably fluffy kitten is soon growing up to be a ferocious predator.

This perfume is everything I hoped Nishane's screaming loud and obnoxious Ani would be. I only have a small decant but to me it is full bottle worthy. Instant love!

Sometimes excellence is found in the simplest creations.

This was a roll-your-eyes-back fragrance for me. The combination of the pink-pepper and frankincense here is reminiscent of my vintage bois d'armenie and the way it meshes with this smooth bourbon vanilla is just masterclass. Although I admit that I am historically into more "masculine-leaning" fragrances, this one is just elevated above such distinctions. Perfectly unisex. Perfectly oriental. Perfectly sensual. An all around 10/10. I will ALWAYS repurchase this as long as it stays in the market.

Was fortunate enough to have a friend traveling to London pick this up for me @ Selfridges. This really is a beautiful scent. Primarily vanilla then leather & incense. It lasts 12 hours & projects well. Sexy leather & sweet vanilla.

share

A spicy, dark and oriental opening leaves room for a sensual and deep vanilla.
Fragrance that stands out, as a trail, but, as I think you well know by now, since I'm not a fan of vanilla I wouldn't be able to wear it, I would find it too suffocating.
Absolutely evening and winter in my opinion.

Oh god it’s so good! This is my favourite fragrance in my collection, by far. This is perfectly unisex. I get suede, pepper, incense and vanilla, and I love every second of it. This lasts so well on my skin, about 8+ hours of arm length protection and then becomes a skin scent on me. This is rich, but isn’t overwhelming, it envelops me and feels so comforting but sophisticated at the same time. Nothing makes me feel like this does. I have 2 bottles because I love it that much and can never be without it. I have tried some smell-alikes but honestly, none of them are quite the same as the original. The bottle is 10/10 gorgeous. Layering combo to try: this and Kayali Vanilla 28, yum! Sadly for my wallet, this is stellar and I cherish every time I choose to wear it. If I was getting married again, this would be my SOTD.

Sueded vanilla with a smooth touch of spicy black pepper and saffron. This is a sophisticated vanilla, my cool weather answer to Byredo Gypsy Water. Love at first sniff and I have yet to like anything from the YSL femine fragrance range. Full bottle worthy.

share

This is one weird fragrance. It smells of burning electronics, like when you solder a circuit board. I really habe no idea what I'm smelling. Vanilla? Not really? Maybe some suede mixed with something else.
Just bizarre tbh

Very very interesting after few hours. I did not like the opening but I couldn't stop myself from smelling it after it dries down. Nice blend of vanilla, leather and spices. Stunning!

I hate this perfume - it is cloying and suffocating, nothing pleasant about it to me. I know it has a lot of fans so I am sad to say I couldn't see its magic.

share

PlatMik

You can smell a nice syrup mouth watery amber vanilla fragrance, but in front of it like a bouncer at a club you have this strong suede thats trying to block all paths of it..if the suede was toned down it would be great. as soon as you try to smell the nuances of the notes the leather note kicks your nose in.

After 1h the leather started playing better with the other noted and got way more pleasant

Love this! I smell like church and I love it 😆

share

Walkingwisti

Smoked vanilla baby powder.

share

stylenurse

It starts off with very strong smokey church incense. The incense phase lasts a long time on its own before the vanilla shows up. After that a beautiful smooth vanilla comes through. It remains a linear mix of smokey incense and vanilla for the duration. The fragrance has strong projection and lasts all day.

share

amanda0727

I was expecting a lot more due to the hype. But to me, this is just a very sweet vanilla. I hardly get any smokiness. Not even close to Rosendo Mateu 5. That said, I really do like this.

share

Niscensse

I have to agree with the review below me saying it has this Latex/Balloon smell, When i first tested this it quickly reminded me of something… thinking & thinking.. then boom! Ah it reminds me of Etat Libre D’Orange Tom Of finland, must be due to its Vanilla, pepper, resin (styrax in ELDO, Olibanum in Babycat) & Suede notes, but difference is Babycat is a much more softer & smoother scent compared to ELDO

share

mad_mal

Sweet and warm. The sugary vanilla evokes its presence from start to finish. What keeps me off is the "latex/balloon" smell that I dislike. This is a pass for me.

share

rosebush340

Vanilla and oud and little else. Strong perfume but a bit too sweet and one-dimensional for me. If I were you, I would save my money and buy Bodycology Fireside S'more. Only three bucks, smells almost the same and lasts even longer.

Thanks to Etsy, I was able to get a sample of the popular but difficult to find (if you live in the US) YSL Babycat. When I first spray it, it was a meh for me, thought I kind of smelled like the inside of a church. After the opening, it started to get pretty interesting. I get mostly incense with some vanilla, and it’s very addicting. Please YSL sell it in the US!

share

fantomette

A good crème brûlée-y vanilla ! I personally prefer Vanagloria as it’s stronger and smokier, but I highly recommend Babycat if you are looking for a plush, airy, comforting caramelised vanilla with slight smoke undertones and brown sugar :)

share

vaninavanini

Almost identical to Vanagloria to my nose. Except for pepper: Babycat, like the rest of YSL Le Vestiaire perfumes, has loads of pepper in it, which makes it drier than Vanagloria.

share

aaronmilic

I'm not sure if this is still hard to get but YSL has this back in stock. I just got a back up bottle from the Canadian YSL site.

share

On me, the opening smells exactly like Encre Noire. I have no idea how this is possible since they don’t share even one same note!? I love dark scents and I also love Encre Noir but because I found Baby Cat a little boring and dry, this is a pass for me.

Clone Alert: per @gents scents on YouTube there is a noteworthy clone of Babycat called Nayel Queen by Arabiyat Prestige. I found it online for $60.00.

whimsyandhoney

This wouldn’t be so hyped if it were easy to find. It’s pretty straightforward vanilla and leather, but done very nicely. I find it to be smooth and sexy. It’s not super heavy or overwhelming and is 100% unisex IMO.

It really reminds me of Initio Absolute Aphrodisiac, but a more low-key and elegant version (not as in-your-face). I think it’s because the leather smells more natural in Baby Cat.

If you are in the US and can’t get your hands on this, I’d say you’re not really missing too much. There are plenty of comparable fragrances that will give the same essence.

I live in Norway and we get very cold winters and my Babycat is my new obsession. I was intrigued by the name at first, and found out that it is named after the babycat pattern by Ysl. Small leopard print. And the bottle looked so sleek and stylish. The notes told me it would be just what I was looking for, but you never know. Went to the Ysl boutique, and the largest department store. No luck. They had all the other ones from Les vestiare, but not Babycat....
So I ordered a 3 ml decant, and instantly fell in love. I had read and seen so many reviews that I was hesitant to make the first spray. Thinking I would be influenced by others. I was afraid it would be too masculine. But mmmmmmhhhhh!!! Omg! I was not disappointed the least!! My god what a scent! I've always loved smokey leathery fragrances on men, but didn't think I'd find one that I could love for myself.
Perfectly unisex, leaning feminine. The opening gives me firewood and the smell reminds me of when I open the balcony door in the dry cold winter when the neighbours are burning wood in their fireplaces, and the soft and comforting smoke from the chimneys. It's not too complex and extremely well blended and smooth with vanilla the whole way. As time passes it has become a soft suede leather jacket. And it just releases more and more true good quality bourbon vanilla and vanilla bean with tonka throughout the night. With that smokey woody background, the fragrance becomes incredibly intoxicating. Eyes rolling back type of addiction. So sexy!
It's as if the fragrance knows how to seduce! And goes through all of the stages, till you are wrapped in the comforting arms of the one you desire. No, I did not say love. This is not a romantic fragrance. This is pure seduction and comfort. Spicy/smokey dry and soft leathery sweet vanilla without the boose. This has quickly become my absolute favourite nighttime and "private" fragrances!
It was hard to get though. I contacted a friend from the UK, and she got it online from Ysl store there and is now shipping it to me. I could not go without. Bought the candle too!!! The best fragrance I've ever smelled!

Incense, vanilla, musky animalistic, a little leather and smooth sweetness which I am contributing must be the bourbon vanilla. What a fascinating combination. ♥ I bought the 5 ml to test it out. So far 9/10

When I owned this masterpiece, I was surprised by the issue of the first layer, in which the beeswax dominated the general atmosphere, and I was not convinced of it until I repeated the experiment five times. It is a very difficult perfume at first, and strange and delicious at the same time. Dominique Ropion, as usual, should create something strange for you, even if the perfume resembles...Another perfume.
I say this because when the fragrance calms down, it takes me to the version of Rosendo Matteo no.5, but with fabulous concentration and more maturity. Creativity in all layers was the share of this fragrance.
Of course, the issue of concentration is a surprise to everyone, because YSL privet
perfumes do not last more than 10 hours in general,
but this one completely exceeds the limits, as it lasts up to 48 hours without question.
Even if you go to work without wearing perfume, it is still there and gives a good performance.

Note: don't overspray this perfume because it will be boring, a few sprays are enough to enjoy.

I just paid an extraordinary amount of $for 5 ml. It is such a unique and warm fragrance. It's unisex for sure but had a more gourmand smell on me so it's right up my alley.
It's like a cozy sweater in a cabin in the woods. I can't stop smelling myself, absolutely love it. It's elegant and thick.
Why do they not make it anymore? I would buy a full bottle immediately.

This is my cup of tea scent. It’s got a strong personality with a wow factor. It’s ambery, sweet, leathery a bit oriental. Although i love, I still think it’s a bit flat and needs a twist to add a new dimension to it. the sillage and longevity are extraordinary. It’s not everyone cup of tea though. It’s not a blind buy.

Lovely fragrance a bit spicy, loads of vanilla and leathery suede in the back keeping it grounded. If you love vanilla this is one to definitely try, I've been the wearing a sample of the last couple days does have a gourmand vanilla desert vibe to it. One thing I don't like for me personally is it reminds me of initio Absolute Aphrodisiac in the late dry down, has an animalic nuance off my skin, that I didn't like in AA. This is a great fragrance none the less but I won't be picking up a full bottle, slightly reminds me of Vertus -Vanilla Oud they both create this lovely dark/toasted caramel vibe off my skin which I have a full bottle of and I think it is far more interesting as it develops than babycat

Best autumn/winter scent on the market right now. Performance wise it’s very good, works incredibly well on my skin but I’ve heard from others that it isn’t as good. Definitely capable of filling a room.

Opens very peppery with an underlying bourbon vanilla, dries down to a really nice vanilla, suede, incensey accord which will closely project for hours.

Scent is comparable to Penhaligons ‘The World According to Arthur’ but it truly is a unique fragrance and a scent that you won’t see or smell on anyone else.

Pepper and saffron are very prominent to me in the opening hour or so, then it's a boozy vanilla that honestly is very simple...

A luxurious version of vanilla bourbon from target to be brutally honest. But it does perform well. It also is reminiscent of by the fireplace but I honestly much prefer by the fire place.

This is to similar to Diptyque Eau Duelle EDT for me to really enjoy it, especially in the dry down. Initial spray is lots of leather and spices. In the dry down the vanilla is too dry and woody. I much prefer the masterpiece Lune Felline over this, and to my nose they are not similar.

Is it just me, or this is quite similar to Tuxedo from the same house? Heavy Spicy, vanillic fragrance but without the earthiness from the patchouli in Tuxedo. Not bad, Its just a heavy vanilla spicy scent...nothing special.

Update: after having time to play with this fragrance, I have realised less is more. If you overspray this it’s not as stunning as what it is when sprayed sparingly
(Coming from a serial over sprayer)
Also, as some one who is not a big lover of the suede no, I sure do love this fragrance

share

HueloBien

Stunning. Enough said.

The opening is fantastic. The vanilla is well crafted and elegant. Not too sweet or cloying.

5-10 minutes after, the incense starts to pop up.
I thought: oh no, it’s turning into a church type of incense? And no, it’s smoky.
If you stick your nose to smell, the incense is very noticeable, BUT, in the air, which is what people will smell, it’s the slightly burned vanilla that I detect that is amazing.
Imaging caramelized sugar that gets hard when it cools dow, that gets slightly burnt by a torch tool.
The lingering scent is wonderful. It’s a smoky/burnt vanilla that I haven’t detected in any other fragrance. It’s addictive.

It’s a masterpiece. It has some resemblance to Rosendo Mateu 5, but only when the vanilla pops in the mid. Then, both go to a different route.

I am so glad I got the 125ml.
I can’t imaging this to macerate for 2-3 weeks and start wearing it in the fall/winter.

Nicely executed vanilla suede. I put one spray on my arm and keep going back to smell it over and over. I sprayed very light so I can't get a good sense of projection, but even if this were a skin scent it would be a delightful one. I plan on giving this sample to my husband as I think it would suit him beautifully, as he has a greater appreciation for leather scents than me. I can see why people prefer this for autumn/winter, but I can totally see enjoying this year round.

Initial blast, I started sneezing, soaked 2 tissues, the black pepper is prominent. I typically dislike leather accords, with this like Feve Delicieuse, the leather is tolerable.
While Babycat is unisex, I find it leans masculine. To me, it's an excellent men's gourmand. The type of female I envision wearing this would be in a hotel bar in the 1920s with a long cigarette to accompany the rich, light, sweet vanilla and slight spicey edge the pepper lends.
The silage depends on how much one sprays. I originally tested this on my husband's skin and it lasted 6 hours easily.
On myself, 6 sprays (might explain the sneezing) on my skin 8 hours and still on clothing 12 hours later.
It's rumored Babycat was created to smell like Amouge's Vanilla Barka. Add some perfumer's alcohol, some leather & pepper and YSL created a safe beautiful winter gourmand. Vanilla Barka & Babycat share the same perfumer.
To me, Feve Deliciuse would have been perfect without the leather and lavender, I own a huge bottle of that, sadly, no longer sold in the states, I feel like YSL has made up for it with Babycat.
I will get a full bottle for my husband. Heavy like.

I practically planned a trip to Paris to buy Babycat, but when I sampled it at Bonne Marche I was surprised it reminded me so much of Encens Suave, which I already own. I couldn't justify the purchase. Babycat at first smells more leathery, but the drydown is almost identical. Both really nice fragrances, but I ultimately went with Celine Tuxedo.

Excellent vanilla suede, overpriced but well executed and balanced. Cedar and pepper I usually don’t like but they add some dryness and depth to the sweetness of the vanilla that I really like. Worth it to at least sample given the limited availability. Although none smell exactly the same there are others that smell so similar to this:Jeffrey Dame Black Flower has the same smoky vanilla without the leather; woody drydown is exactly palo santo by carner barcelona.

This is fully an autumn winter fragrance, it’s cold, incense churches, Christmas, cosy leather, wool and suede, cats in a basket, dogs by the fire, baked goods and sharp cold air when you step outside. If Angels share is a cocooning winter walk fragrance, this is the evening by the fire when you get home with a glass of red in hand.

A very dry vanilla laid over a dusty suede and cedar, sprinkled with earthy black pepper. Leathery, woody, lightly spiced & smoked with little sweetness. Moderate projection fades to skin over for 3-4hr, longevity 10-12hr.

The lasting is good but I don't like the vanilla leather formulation. It is too strong to my liking and the fragrance itself is really expensive. However, I did not want to lose out on wearing this scent so I discovered a dupe of this known as 'Vanilla Baby' by the Dua Brand. It is highly affordable and does not have a sharp formulation as the OG which makes me wear it more often. Lovely dupe and I have gotten so many compliments whenever I wear it. Highly recommended to those who are looking for an affordable option!

That's a well known marketing trick to up the sales. Don't fall for it. They never discontinue a cash cow. Armani did the same with rouge malachite. Never got discontinued...even though they claimed different. A well known toy producer does the same. Collector boxes are all "sold out" and in back order. Yet, there are no shortages (and i know this from the horses mouth). Just to up the sales and get fomo going full blast. It's disgusting but that's how the rich get richer. Just chill. It Will be available soon, i'm sure. 😏

In my opinion, Metallique is 100 procent NOT a dupe for babycat. Not even close tmn. Metallique is aldehydes+ vanilla. Nothing else. Babycat is similar to Lune Feline and Rosendo combined. Babycat by YSL
(3 ml. Decanter from trace, Thank you)

I was received this decant very early in my fragrance journey, my prattle doesn’t develop much. I sniff and think, safforn is too strong. Cuir and Vanilla doesn’t match. And I leave in my little dacant cabinet for so long I test like 1 time last year.

Later, I bring it out after I really like Cuir Beluga.
suddenly I appreciate this more than last time, enjoying more than last time. I think nose can really change. It’s true.

It is quite beautiful spicy vanilla amber fragrance with hints of Suede playing in background, vanilla in this is quite powdery yet so quite caramely (balmy) it is very enjoyable.. linear but in a good way.

I feel like Babycat has something to do with Caban and Caftan from the same line. They shared Pepper top with Elemi and Olibanum. So it is quite connected. It just take difference route.

Caban takes Sandalwood Vanilla Tonka and Patchouli.
Caftan takes Musk and let the Olibanum be star of the show.

Personally, Babycat is good. But like daily wear good (is this ever make scent), I means Caban with touch of patchouli can lead to formal usage.
Caftan, take musk route feel solitude in warm, enjoy your silent time, sort of.

Babycat with usage of Leather and vanilla bring to another good direction like everyday use.

My personal key is YSL exclusive line seems create for certain propose “glass bottle” for usage in daily setup up to formal “gold bottle” evokes Oreintal, Lust creation “black bottle” is corporate use.

This one, even in line with glass bottle lacks propose a bit. It great but you must into this profile.
Also, the name baby cat is a bit.. off standard? As the name of this line refers to material or style of equipment. Babycat seems a bit off? Maybe Leopard? Would be better? I means.. if you read YSL website is even write “purr to the coutre” is a bit drag for me.

Nonetheless, I think Baby Cat is good and I might eventually buy Full Bottle..
