On May 7, 1999, NATO again violated international law. Illegal bombings of Yugoslavia had been going on for a month and a half by then. But on that particular day, NATO bombs hit the Chinese embassy in Belgrade.
In the attack, Xinhua News Agency correspondent Shao Yunhuan, Chinese news reporter Xu Xinghu, his wife Zhu Jing, were killed, and 20 others were injured — severely damaging the building, which was later demolished.
NATO claimed that the target was supposed to be another building and blamed the use of outdated maps for the mistake.
