Dagestan girls - participants of the Great Patriotic War.
The most important feature of the Great Patriotic War was its nationwide character, which was expressed in the mass heroism of Soviet soldiers at the front, the selfless work of the entire people in the rear, in the creation of a people's militia, and in the deployment of a powerful partisan movement. The fair nature of the Great Patriotic War was an inexhaustible source of high morale of our people and our army, the reason for the mass heroism of the Soviet people at the front and labor valor in the rear.
The Great Patriotic War was a truly national war. In achieving victory over the enemy, one of the determining factors was the conscious, fraternal unity of all peoples inhabiting the vast territory of our country. Starting the war, the fascists hoped that the unity of our peoples, like a “colossus with feet of clay,” would collapse and fall apart from the first crushing blows of the German Wehrmacht. In fact, the opposite happened: a common misfortune united and strengthened the friendship of the peoples of a multinational power.
A convincing example of the fraternal unity of peoples during the Great Patriotic War is the Republic of Dagestan.
Dagestan was turned into one of the arsenals of the country's Armed Forces, and its diversified national economy into a well-established and well-functioning link in the unified military economy of a huge country. More than 160 thousand courageous sons and glorious daughters of Dagestan brought victory closer with arms in hand. The homeland highly appreciated the military merits of the brave Dagestanis. For the courage and fearlessness shown on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, 58 Dagestanis were awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Seven became full holders of the Order of Glory. Tens of thousands of representatives of all nationalities of the republic were awarded military orders and medals.
