Global chocolate consumption per capita in selected countries 2021

Graph and data by statista.com

This is a rough estimate of how much chocolate is consumed per capita by country. Switzerland stands out on top, as it has for a long time. What’s interesting is the stark contrast not only from a country like Switzerland to China (or even India), which have vastly different populations as well as food culture, but even between Switzerland and France, a close neighbour both physically and culturally. People in the United Kingdom surprisingly consume about one quarter the amount the Swiss do. This is interesting considering that it was the English who invented the chocolate bar as we know it today (yet the Swiss who you could say “perfected” it). This is just a snapshot of selected countries to compare the degree in differences of chocolate consumption, and is not to be taken too seriously as this is a rough estimate at best.
