A tiny San Francisco burger joint, the Great American Hamburger and Pie Co. is set to close some 38 years since its opening because a wheelchair user sued the family-owned business over a lack of wheelchair access, citing the Americans with Disabilities Act. The plaintiff claimed he couldn't enter through a 'high threshold' on two separate visits to the burger joint. According to SFGate, the two owners, George and Helen Koliavas, said that the ADA compliance lawsuit was the final nail on the coffin after two years of COVID lockdowns and high food inflation. Just absolutely disgraceful. The Americans with Disabilities Act is nothing more than an opportunity for awful lawyers to farm such cases and push these lawsuits onto small businesses, suing them for tens of thousands of dollars and forcing them out of business, all while reaping a profit from all the fraudulent cases.
