Cyber Av3ngers - the Iran linked hacktivist group is suggesting they were responsible for a series of power outages across Israel over the past few months. Why highlight this? This is an example of when a hacktivist group uses ambiguous situations reported in the media to push their information operations. By claiming these attacks, Cyber Av3ngers can instil uncertainty and some concern onto Israel citizens. Did they conduct these attacks? It isn't clear if they were even cyber attacks. Have they provided evidence? No. Is it possible? They have impacted operational technology before, mostly water treatment systems. But, overall, they are trying to evoke fear and uncertainty and overall aim to disrupt the day-to-day lives of their target audience. Something that hacktivist groups do pretty regularly.
