A word of hate or term of endearment? Like many young African American teens, Jermaine used the word every day. Then, in the summer of 2003, he traveled down south and met people for whom nigger will never be just another word.

Subject: It Arose in the Deep South
The term is a deep south derivative of the word negro. With a southern accent, nigger became popular throughout the deep south. Nigger is easier to say than Negro, and that is how it caught on. I honestly don't think it was hateful in itself to begin with, just a slang term evolving out of Negro. When Negroes decided they didn't want to be called "negroes", but "people of color", nothing changed. In fact the term Nigger seemed to gain usage. When "the people of color" decided that they didn't want to be called "people of color" any longer, the new term "black people" emerged. I wonder how long it will be before they decide to be called "browns"! This film is the usual racist bull that accomplishes nothing but furthers hate and the continuance of Affirmative Action, the NAACP, and the coming proposed "Reparations"!

I'm glad I am able to see this short film before it's possibly taken off for copywrite issues.
I have used the word to describe black people but never in a derogatory way. With all the politically correct that has blanketed North America, I'm surprized that black youth are using the term in the opposite sense.
THEN again, I know gay people or good friends of gay people using the word fag in the same sense.
After watching this, I believe that Prof. Thomas makes a strong point in stating that the word will not lose it's negative stigma and the history behind the word should stay strong.
If you're sensitive, you will let words offend you. If you're strong, you empathetically look at people who intend to offend.
Great video. I hope more people watch and learn.

In The News: The US financial markets seem to have stabilized, but no one quite understands why. More. Brad Delong, UC Berkeley economist has some notes... Here's what happened: First, some firms that lend money made some big, risky home loans. The loans were risky because they ended up with lots of people who would only be able to pay them if house prices kept rising. But the lenders weren't that worried about the quality of loans because they didn't hold on to them. They securitized them,...

A gripping documentary, Vicious Circle investigates acts of violence committed in the name of hatred, racism, neo-nationalism, and fear, and, in the process, the youth producers unravel little known complexities behind what makes a hate crime unique in the U.S. legal system. Vicious Circle combines the stories of victims and activists with dramatic invention and intensive, community-based research to present a document of stunning clarity and power.

Includes bibliographical references (p. 177-209) and index ""Nigger": it is arguably the most consequential social insult in American history, though, at the same time, a word that reminds us of "The ironies and dilemmas, tragedies and glories of the American experience." In my 15 years of experience careers many people discuss on rust of reinforcing bars is a common question asked by both design and construction professionals, and fielded by the regional and many contractors companies. The questions usually focus on bond and development length concerns, and whether the corrosion mechanism will continue once the reinforcing bars are embedded in the concrete. In addition to rust, other common concerns are the presence of mill scale or other surface contaminants...

Threads that work are a bear to print, especially when you use Fusion 360 and only have the ISO standard metric sizes to work with and no ability to customize. Usually we resort to threading our model and then scaling it or some equally imprecise hack. You can however make your own thread profiles if you know where and how to do it. Fusion 360 stores thread data in an xml file, located at (replace %text% with your actual username and version):...
