Lovey gave birth to her third calf, likely on March 16, 2024, at Kamogawa Sea World. Kamogawa had announced the abrupt closing of the killer whale show on March 16th. They never made an official announcement, but it is suspected this is when Lovey went into labor. They later reopened the killer whale show a few days later, with Lovey notably smaller. It is unknown if the calf was a stillborn or if the calf survived and died shortly after birth.
Little is known about the calf. This was Kamogawa's first calf to be conceived via artificial insemination. The last birth was Lovey's second calf, Luna, back in 2012. Shortly after Luna's birth, their last breeding male, Oscar, had passed away.
The father is unknown. Kamogawa originally had plans to work with SeaWorld in the US (unrelated to Kamogawa Sea World) on artificial insemination, but SeaWorld had imposed their breeding ban, making them unlikely. Kshamenk at Mundo Marino was also trained for artificial insemination, so he could be a potential sire, unless other males have also been trained over the years.
