(In 2013 the name got shortened to EY).

EY’s main service lines are Assurance, Tax, Strategy and Transactions, Consulting and Core Business…

Your recruiter and interviewers can provide you with more information on the types of leave available.

Community volunteering leave:

In addition to EY Ripples, each EY employee receives 1-day paid community volunteer leave annually to dedicate their time to a charity or community organisation of their choosing. You can use it as a full day, or incrementally over a period of time.

Social Club:

The EY Social Club organises a range of activities, from sporting events to informal and formal social functions, including – in most offices – an annual ball.

Employee Insurances:

You have access to a fully subsidised Group Workplace scheme providing Group Life & Terminal Illness Insurances, Income Protection and Group Critical Illness (or Trauma) Cover.

Dress for your day:

We’ve introduced Dress for Your Day, a dress code that further binds our unique culture of flexibility, authenticity and creativity. It means our people can now dress in a way that is appropriate for their work each day. Those with no external client meetings can choose smart casual dress, while those meeting with external clients may opt for more formal attire.

Family leave:

We provide 26 weeks of paid parental leave, which can be taken flexibly by either parent during the 24 months after the child(ren)’s birth. There is no required service period to access the leave. This applies to stillborn birth, adoption, and surrogacy and can be taken as block leave or on a part-time basis. All family leave entitlements are inclusive of LGBTQ people, regardless of the gender of the Staff Member or their partner. This is on top of the Government’s paid parental leave provisions. We provide five days of paid leave for early pregnancy loss and fertility treatment. Along with leave for grandparents to take around the time of birth of adoption of a grandchild with further access to unpaid leave for up to 12 months.

The people are incredible. From day one, I have felt like people here have my best interests at heart and want to see me excel in my career.

What was the biggest surprise when transitioning into a graduate role from an intern role?

The biggest surprise was a pleasant one! After working multiple part-time jobs while studying, transitioning into a job where I could dive into interesting and exciting real-world work, and get paid full-time was so exciting. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the routine and consistency of working full-time.

Diversity & Inclusion

Diversity and Inclusion diversity icon

Talk to anyone at EY and they’ll tell you it’s a rewarding place to work in so many ways. EY teams attract high-performing individuals from different backgrounds and experiences who – like you – bring a unique point of view and business skills.

We welcome all people, no matter who they are or what their background. Each of us is different, and when people feel valued for their differences, they feel part of something greater; they feel like they belong. That’s when creative ideas flow, igniting innovation and inspiring more effective solutions.

We each have multiple aspects to our identity, some of which may not be visible to others. Whether cultural background, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, age or family status; we value diverse viewpoints and see them as the catalysts that lead to better questions and better answers. Using a variety of internal networks, inclusive leadership behaviours, flexible working and mentoring programs, we use practical solutions to create your personalised work experience, all supported by a strong, authentic culture and our fundamental belief that we all ‘belong’.

Social Responsibility

A ripple that helps change the world. It's yours to build.

When we look at the world today, we see a huge opportunity to use our skills, knowledge and experience to address some of the toughest social challenges of our time. As one of our people, you'll have the opportunity to participate in skilled volunteering through EY Ripples, our global corporate responsibility program with a bold ambition to positively impact the lives of one billion people by 2030. EY Ripples enables skilled volunteering focused on three key areas where we believe we can make the greatest impact in society: supporting the next generation workforce, working with impact entrepreneurs aligned to the UN Sustainable development Goals, and accelerating environmental sustainability.

In addition to EY Ripples, each EY professional receives 1-day paid community volunteer leave annually to dedicate their time to a charity or community organisation of their choosing. You can use it as a full day, or incrementally over a period of time.

Gender Equality

Gender Equality diversity icon

Gender Equality at EY New Zealand

The EY Gender Inclusion Network is for EY people of all genders and provides opportunities for members to learn and expand their networks by bringing everyone into the conversation to share different perspectives on gender in the workplace.

EY offers 26 weeks of paid parental leave, which can be taken flexibly by either parent during the 24 months after the child(ren)’s birth. There is no required service period to access the leave. This applies to stillborn birth, adoption, and surrogacy and can be taken as block leave or on a part-time basis. All family leave entitlements are inclusive of LGBTQ+ people, regardless of the gender of the EY employee or their partner. This is on top of the Government’s paid parental leave provisions. All parents are supported through the transition to parenthood and return-to-work process, through access to mentoring and a digital coaching platform.

The EY Women in Technology (WiT) Network are committed to creating an inclusive culture to successfully harness technology’s potential and truly transform society. By educating women and girls, incubating their leadership potential and innovating new ways to empower a diverse technical workforce, we are dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology and creating an environment where everyone can succeed. program supports girls and women to enter, remain, thrive and lead in the world of technology.

We invest in diverse talent for balanced and equitable representation in leadership and commercial areas of focus. Research suggests that without deliberate focus, these opportunities can be delivered in a biased way that is not gender-balanced. Therefore, we have tailored Women in

Leadership programs:

  • Accelerate sponsorship program: Designed for women who are Senior Managers and Directors to accelerate the next generation of women in leadership and future partners.
  • Women Athletes Business Network: Created to address the gap in leadership development for internationally competitive women athletes as they transition from competitor to professional. A combination of mentorship and formal training, the women selected to participate in this program come from the highest ranks of sport and are mostly focused on building entrepreneurial capabilities.

First Nations

Māori & Pasifika at EY New Zealand

In EY New Zealand, we have Tahi, a standalone member firm of EY, that supports Māori organisations, government and businesses to accelerate success and produce meaningful outcomes through sustainable change for Māori people.  Founded in 2014, Tahi was born from a desire within EY to transform the professional advisor experience for the Māori market.

Tahi is guided by our tikanga (values) of whakarongo

(we listen), manaakitia (we support) and hāpaitia (we uplift).

We strive to be the trusted professional advisor for kaupapa Māori by having an exceptional team delivering quality work that produces meaningful outcomes. EY Tahi also coordinate the informal network for Māori staff.

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

In 2023, the New Zealand offices recognised Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori language week) with a series of activations and sessions designed to increase the use of Te Reo Māori in everyday life and educate our people on all aspects of Te Ao Māori. This included several sessions on pronunciation, educational sessions and in-person events.

Keeping it Reo!

Following on from Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2022, a number te reo Māori sessions called Keeping it Reo! will run virtually and in-person across all New Zealand offices. Learning outcomes include: basics of tikanga (Māori customs and protocols), correct pronunciation, basic greetings and introductions, grammar and sentence structure, waiata (song) and karakia (chant/prayer).

Matariki

New Zealand offices celebrate Matariki (Māori New Year). Celebrations have been held since 2019. In 2023  several activations took place during the celebration week of Matariki. This included , waiata sessions, print and digital resources, and in-person events learning about Matariki.

Pōwhiri & mihi whakatau

The new EY NZ Māori cultural capability lead has begun the implementation of tikanga Māori (Māori customs and protocols) into EY practice across the firm. This includes the facilitation of pōwhiri or mihi whakatau (traditional Māori welcome). A Pōwhiri and mihi whakatau is a culturally appropriate way of welcoming manuhiri (visitors) by tangata whenua (home people e.g. EY people) and removes the tapu (sacredness) surrounding manuhiri so that they become one with EY people. This also includes applying Māori culture to the new partner ceremonies known as Eke Poutama, which involves elements of pōwhiri and mihi whaktau.

We have a Māori (Tuia!) and Pasifika network (Tangata) within the EY New Zealand practice.

Disability Support

Disability Support at EY New Zealand

Ability is an EY network for allies who support disability inclusion across the workplace and communities, those who care for a person with a disability and EY people living with a disability. It aims to elevate disability inclusion on all agendas and ensure accessibility at EY, recognising the contribution all EY people make to the working world.

ND Community Connect is an informal network for neurodivergent EY individuals under the Ability network.

EY is proud to be one of the 4% of organisations across the globe who include disability in the EY diversity agenda (World Economic Forum 2019) and one of the first companies to sign up to the Valuable 500.

In 2021, the second Accessibility and Inclusion Plan was launched, outlining the ongoing commitment to disability inclusion for EY people and clients; EY are making great inroads but acknowledge there is plenty to do.

Be. Lab

In 2019, EY New Zealand worked with Be. Lab to onboard two interns with accessibility needs, both of whom have progressed to permanent roles. This programme continues to offer placements and support candidates through the process with candidates being recruited into EY in 2020 and 2021. We continue to support Be. Lab with future placements of candidates into EY.

LGBTQ+ at EY New Zealand

The EY network group, Unity, supports LGBTQ+ EY people and their straight allies to create an inclusive culture where LGBTQ+ individuals can be their authentic selves at work.

In New Zealand, EY has maintained the Rainbow Tick since 2017. In 2018, the then EY Oceania Unity Leader, Gina Mills, won the Inspirational Role Model award at the  New Zealand LGBTQ+ Awards for her work in raising awareness and providing support in the LGBTQ+ community.

In 2021, EY won the Innovation Award for their work on Bi+ Inclusion at the NZ Rainbow Excellence Awards. In a Trans-Tasman first, lead by Gina Mills in Auckland and Sydney Unity Co-Chair Michael Liffen, this initiative brought together 12 of our major clients at the wavespaces in Auckland and Sydney for a collective deep-dive into the challenges faced by bisexual/pansexual (Bi+) people in the workplace, and to co-create a pathway forward.

In 2021, the then EY Oceania Unity Leader, Gina Mills, won the Network Leader of the Year Award at the Australian LGBTQ Inclusion Awards for her work in raising awareness and providing support in the LGBTQ+ community.
