Has anyone noticed N.B.A. players don’t come from the hood anymore? Anyone ever noticed that they all come from hood to decent areas now.

Yes but at the same time those kids in single parent homes didn’t choose that life and still deserve a chance to make it

Inner city and rural lads just don't have the financial resources and amenities of other communities as noted above but many players don't have the guidance and support they need, most don't make it through college, which is important in gaining experience and building up one physique and increasing endurance with the hidden cache of helping one mature in the spot light before setting off on an even bigger stage.

Kids with talent get moved out the hood, the local booster clubs will usually fund the whole family moving out the hood just so the super star players can bring their high school team championships. Theyve been doing that since I was in school and im in my 30s now…
You're right. I heard about this when I was growing up as well, and I think the practice even precedes our generation. The thing I don't get is what do these school districts win? Like, what is the payoff for having a championship team? Especially if it's a public school, but even if it's a private one. I get that it must be fun to brag about having a championship team, but I can't for the life of me believe that it's worth putting all of that kind of money into ensuring eligibility for a middle schooler or high schooler. I just don't get it. School is supposed to be for academics. Bragging about the prowess of one's athletic teams seems rather superficial.

Uh isn’t that a good thing…. Who actually wants to be from the hood? I wish more black/biracial kids said that they had the opportunity to grow up in a middle to high class neighborhoods and then eventually become millionaires.

So what most of you are saying is that when the playing field was a bit more level, poor Black kids from the hood wiped the floor with their more affluent and oftentimes white counterparts. White folks wanted that glory, fame, and paycheck (I'm guessing) so they began to funnel extra resources into their already advantaged children's athletic instruction. These same funds however could have been used to improve the failing public schools a lot of their children's competitors came from. Interesting. I will be using this example in the future.

These comments explain why the league is boring and there aren’t very many elite players.

Foreign players are taking all the spots from American Black NBA players.

Look at the 2022-2023 All-NBA First Team
Luka Doncic: born in Slovenia
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: born in Canada, mother from Antigua and Barbuda, no info online of father heritage
Jayson Tatum: born in St. Louis, father African-American, mother appears to be biracial but no info online to confirm that
Giannis Antetokounmpo: born in Greece, parents from Nigeria
Joel Embiid: born in Cameroon

I never thought I'd see an All-NBA First Team where four of five were not American.

A tale as old as time. SMDH.

Yep, with the ceiling getting higher of what people consider rich- from millionaire, to multi-millionaire and now billionaire- the quality of things is getting lower and short cuts are being taken to reach that goal.

It's all about getting to billionaire status the fastest now, so who wants to bother with athletes from the hood who might need more babysitting and effort than kids from the suburbs with that in-built support system.

Probably because the kids in the hood are carjacking everyone and choosing to not participating in productive, recreational activities
Liiiiisten. As soon as I read this title, these were my exact thoughts too. I see more young black men out here committing crimes then I see them on someone's court. Even the ones who are really good and destined for greatness. I went to school with this boy and look how he turned out.

I actually still know his IG and he's now a typical hood n, covered in tattoos and throwing up gang signs when he could be sitting in a million dollar mansion surrounding by IG hoes or something.

I can't think of any current biracial NBA players that have white fathers and black mothers.
I know of one: Paolo Banchero with Orlando Magic. I only know about him because he was on The Knuckleheads podcast and talked about his mom being in the WNBA and her being the one to teach him how to play. I googled him to see who his mom is  Black mom, white dad.

See, what a shame!! I’m getting groaned to death but it is true and weighing heavy on my mind bc I’m writing my research paper on juvenile crime and the data/statistics show these crimes are primarily being committed by young black males ( who predominately live in the hood).

Lmaooo exactly the kids in the hood don’t want to be NBA players anymore and rather carjack while not participating in productive activities so idk why people are blaming the NBA for scouting for people that want to participate and come from a good middle class family .

Dont know why the olympics allowed professional players to play in amateur leagues…but I think this was the start of the transition.

Most basketball players will be coming from europe and china…

Girl don't worry about these fonts. They'll be in one thread saying black men have high crime rates but are in this one pretending to not understand why professional athletes are not coming from the hood anymore? Make it make sense. You can't be in jail and playing football at the same time lmfao. Good luck on your paper!!

Youth athletics aren’t cheap anymore. You have to be at least middle class to comfortably afford it. My little cousin plays youth football. Not only is there a cost to play and for the uniform/equipment, but they are taking out of city trips almost every weekend.

Excellent post! Thank you for taking the time to break this down with details for us!!! You took me back for sure when all those things happen in early to mid 00s.

This also goes to show how those light demons will do whatever they can to hold on to their “power”.

And this is exactly why the talent in the league today couldn't hold a candle to the talent during like the late 80's and 90's.

League is full of biracial players that made it through because of their mom being white and using her privilege
And THIS was the GOAL but black men was too busy thinking black women just mad because I'm with blah blah blah.. women ALWAYS smarter than men when it comes to these things. Now the league is biracial ultimately it will go back to its original skin tone..and that's how you stay in power. .

All about lineage, players ancestry, players education, and players acquaintances.

As someone has mentioned that is why there is no decent music, movies, books

It was the working class that were the artiists. You have to experience both highs and lows.

NBA/Music/Hollywood industry....are industry that really put black people back into a form of slavery because.. think about it..when these industries started making serious money it convinced black people to not put it back in the community...Malcolm X warned against this...

Starting with men like Harry Belafonte stating 'noting a black woman can do for me". This is some of the issue.. and believe me you.. have the right to love who you want, but when you exclude your shared race it becomes strategic and not about love.

My point is a lot of things black people build ultimately gets taken from us because we are oppressed people that too often turn around and oppress ourselves . . I don't think I've EVER heard a non-black woman wonder if her shared race was interested in them! Just think about how crazy that is!!!

So basically....black people didn't create basketball but it was perfected by black men... black men made it the exciting game it once was...
But white men convinced them to put that money right back into others community's.. they are now working on football. It's not quite there yet...

It's a form of slavery. Just like the slave owners made the south very rich off the backs of black people...

Man, cut the sh!t with talking down to and generalizing all women just because a few fonts made a couple of points who were probably not old enough to know. You will get your draws in a bunch the minute I begin hurling stereotypes at you. As if only men watch basketball. tuh huh

I remember the brawl all to well because I watched that game LIVE and what all came as a result of it. There was much commentary given by men AND women. We are seeing a repeat of it again with tennis being "replaced" with pickleball, golf tournaments and soccer leagues because international markets are wanting "ownership" in some of these U.S. institutions. Which are very sus af!!!!!

Poverty and struggle is over represented in black culture. Not sure why people go so hard to defend it.

It’s called growth. Basketball and football are middle class sports today. You have all the camps and trainers that have entered the chat and exploited the market of thirsty parents wanting their kids to excel.
Yea I heard this too.
Sadly it’s no longer a pipeline for youth. Same with music.
